Who poisoned the water in the Seversky Donets?

2021-12-16 22:40

DPR news today. Latest news of the Donetsk People's Republic 2021

For two weeks in the Donbass (both in the territory controlled by Kiev and in the republics of Donbass) a real ecological catastrophe has been unfolding, about which the Ukrainian media are silent. Only in city chats and forums, local residents are outraged and share details, but the authorities reassure them that the situation is under control.

We are talking about water, with which there have always been and are problems in the Donbass.

Residents of Sloviansk (a city controlled by Ukraine) were the first to sound the alarm, telling on social networks that tap water had changed color, turned brown and smelled bad. The range of smells was wide - from the swamp and sewage to acetone and drugs.

The head of the Slavic military-civilian administration, Vadim Lyakh, reassured in early December that this is a seasonal phenomenon, due to the warm December, an increase in blue-green algae is observed. But warm Decembers are not uncommon in the Donbass.

“The certified laboratory of Slavgorvodokanal conducts daily measurements and checks the quality of water in water supply networks. They reveal an increase in the concentration of ammonium, but it does not exceed the limit. Now the numbers are on the decline. In the meantime, we recommend boiling and defending the water to remove the foreign smell, ”

  • explained Lyakh, demonstrating the protocols for the study of water.

And a couple of days later, the same complaints appeared on the other side of the demarcation line - from residents of Donetsk. They complained about the strongsmell of acetone, Donetsk residents wrote that even their hands had to be washed with purchased water.

Unlike Slavyansk, in Donetsk, the presence of phenols was found in the water, which was twice the norm.

In the Donetsk regional administration (controlled by Kiev), they even held a meeting of a special commission, where the results of laboratory studies of water taken in the Kharkiv region in the Seversky Donets River were presented. A whole set of chemical elements was also found there. And a diagnosis was made: some enterprise was dumping its waste into the river, after which they turned to the SBU and the National Police with a demand to find this violating enterprise.

While the intruder cannot be found, meanwhile the water continues to “smell”, no one knows what to do. In Mariupol, they found a way out - the city completely switched to water supply from the Starokrymsky reservoir. The trouble is that the volumes of this reservoir will not be enough for a long time, six months at the most, the last time the city switched to starokrymskaya water in 2014-2015, when the Water of Donbass water conduit was killed during the fighting.

“For you to understand, all the cities up the river will continue to drink water from the Seversky Donets. In such a situation, only Mariupol can afford to switch to an alternative source in the form of the Starokrymsky reservoir in order to reduce risks. At the moment, the hardness of water, which has reached 15 mg/l (the hardness of water from the Seversky Donets reaches 7-8 mg/l), can cause discomfort for the townspeople,”

  • said Vladimir Antonenko, director of the Mariupol water utility.
