The officer on the Eric Coomer (Dominion) arrest tape at this link said to Coomer's lawyer that, under thenew law,(state, I assume but don't know where video was shot)lying to law enforcement is now a felony "attempt to influence a public official."
But they let him off of that charge - wonder if a MAGA supporter arrest would have turned out the same - after he finally admitted (on his lawyer's advice) to hitting the building with his truck and panicking (leaving the scene and lying outright to law enforcement). He initially denied it outright to multiple officers' questions despite being told eye witnesses watched it and identified him. (Officers and lawyer speculate he ran to the bar to take a "couple of shots" (which he said he did) - after - the crash to cover up a DUI.)
Eric Coomer told the officer (when finally admitting that he had crashed into the building) that he has been"under a lot of stress" and said"just Google my name."
