So, yeah. What Jimi Hendrix became was a DIRECTLY RESULT of him expressing his disgust with a system that "kept him down". Because, you know, riding around in stolen cars and then getting caught is "keeping you down".

Don't get me wrong, he had his talents, but his Star Spangled Banner performance was tongue-in-cheek "art". It did exactly what it was intended to do:

1. Piss off the pseudo patriots of the day.

2. Give the hippies conversational cannon fodder for making "freedom of expression" limitless (fuck your sacred stuff; it's just art!)

3. Further culturally subvert the US and demotivating actual patriots.
