Kyiv Chief Rabbi Yonatan Markovitch landed in Tel Aviv on Wednesday, and pledged to lobby Prime Minister Naftali Bennett’s government to provide increased aid to Ukraine.
Markovitch, a former Israel Defense Forces officer-turned-Chabad chief rabbi, told Haaretz that he only intends to stay in Israel a few days and hopes to be able to return to Ukraine, although the prospect for such a return makes such a prospect seem increasingly dim.
“The situation in Kyiv is a catastrophe. Explosions near residential buildings, near the train station, which is maybe 100 meters from where our son lives. It is very dangerous,” Markovitch told reporters outside the arrival hall at Ben-Gurion Airport, where dozens of teenagers sang and waved Israeli flags.

Biden admin threatens Texas after Gov. Abbott calls pro-trans procedures for minors 'child abuse'
The Biden administration threatened Texas on Wednesday with “immediate action” over the state’s decision to investigate parents who permit children to undergo life-altering procedures to affirm transgender identity.
What is the background?
Last month, Gov. Greg Abbott (R) directed the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services to conduct an investigation into parents who allow their minor children to undergo "so-called 'sex change' procedures."
"Texas law imposes reporting requirements upon all licensed professionals who have direct contact with children who may be subject to such abuse, including doctors, nurses, and teachers, and provides criminal penalties for failure to report such child abuse," the directive stated. "There are similar reporting requirements and criminal penalties for members of the general public."
Abbott's directive came after Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton determined that such medical procedures "constitute child abuse under existing Texas law."
What is Biden doing?
President Joe Biden released a statement on Wednesday claiming Texas has launched "a cynical and dangerous campaign targeting transgender children and their parents."
"This is government overreach at its worst," Biden claimed, before regurgitating the left's view of child transgender identity.
"Affirming a transgender child’s identity is one of the best things a parent, teacher, or doctor can do to help keep children from harm, and parents who love and affirm their children should be applauded and supported, not threatened, investigated, or stigmatized," Biden said.
The Department of Health and Human Services then issued new guidance that said placing restrictions on health care that affirms children who believe they are transgender likely violates federal civil rights laws.
"HHS will take immediate action if needed," HHS Secretary Xavier Becerra said in a statement. "I know that many youth and their supportive families are feeling scared and isolated because of these attacks. HHS is closely monitoring the situation in Texas, and will use every tool at our disposal to keep Texans safe."
Becerra did not disclose what that "action" may be. However, the HHS simultaneously published more guidance on patient privacy, the illegality of denying health care based on gender identity, and a memorandum demanding states to "use their child welfare systems to advance safety and support for LGBTQI+ youth."
In the world of COVID restrictions enacted by governments on children, guidance also published by HHS' Office of Civil Rights ironically said that blocking parents from making health care decisions creates a "chilling effect." The "chilling effect" apparently only applies to LGBT issues.

Pro-LGBT forces in Texas have already notched a win in their battle against Abbott's order.
District Judge Amy Clark Meachum issued a temporary restraining order against Abbott's directive on Wednesday, thereby preventing state officials from investigating the parents of a transgender teenager.

Hillary Clinton "Disappointed" Crypto Exchanges Aren't Banning Russians
Hillary Clinton said she was “disappointed” that cryptocurrency exchanges weren’t blanket banning all Russians, complaining that this was likely due to their “philosophy of libertarianism or whatever.”
Clinton made the comments during an appearance on Rachel Maddow’s MSNBC show.
“Everybody should ratchet up the pressure,” said Clinton.
“I was disappointed to see that some of the so-called crypto exchanges, not all of them but some of them, are refusing to end transactions with Russia – you know, from some I don’t know, philosophy of libertarianism or whatever.”
Although large exchanges have so far refused to place a blanket ban on Russians, they are taking action against Russian politicians and oligarchs.
The Biden administration also said it was “continuing to aggressively combat the misuse of cryptocurrency, including to evade US sanctions.”
After Ukrainian Vice Prime Minister Mykhailo Federov demanded that cryptocurrency exchanges ban all users in Russia and its ally Belarus, CEO of US-based Kraken Jesse Powell said he would refuse to do so unless a legal order was received.
Powell asserted that crypto should be “a weapon for peace, not for war” and that such a move would violate crypto’s “libertarian values.”
“Besides, if we were going to voluntarily freeze financial accounts of residents of countries unjustly attacking and provoking violence around the world, step 1 would be to freeze all U.S. accounts. As a practical matter, that’s not really a viable business option for us,” he added.

A pro-Russian audience member has been asked to leave the Q+A studio after tempers flared following a "rogue question" about the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
Host Stan Grant asked Sasha Gillies-Lekakis to leave the studio after he had earlier asked a question about how Russia is being portrayed in the media.
"As someone who comes from the Russian community here in Australia, I've been pretty outraged by the narrative depicted by our media, with Ukraine as the good guy and Russia as the bad guy," Mr Gillies-Lekakis said.
"Believe it or not, there are a lot of Russians here and around the world that support what Putin's doing in Ukraine, myself included. Since 2014, the Ukraine has besieged the Russian populations in Donetsk and Luhansk unprovoked, killing an estimated 13,000 people."
Mr Gillies-Lekakis was then interrupted by another audience member, who shouted: "That's a lie" and "Don't do this, it's propaganda".
While the question was briefly discussed by the panel before the show moved on to talk about the flood crisis, Grant came back to it later to express how "uncomfortable" he was having Mr Gillies-Lekakis in the audience.
"Something has been bothering me, I have to admit, since we had Sasha's question earlier about Russia, and it's been playing on my mind," Grant said.
"Sasha, people here have been talking about family who are suffering and people who are dying.
"You supported what's happening, hearing that people are dying. Can I just say — I'm just not comfortable with you being here. Could you please leave?"
Mr Gillies-Lekakis attempted to protest, but Grant continued.
"You can ask a question, but we cannot advocate violence. I should have asked you to leave then. It's been playing on my mind and, I'm sorry, but I have to ask you to leave," he said.

‘Utmost seriousness:’ UK police probe death of Russian oil tycoon, Mikhail Watford
Friends and associates of the millionaire said his death was “surely not coincidental” and fear he could have been linked to a hit list.
A Russian tycoon has been found hanged in his garage at home on one of Britain’s most exclusive estates.
The body of Mikhail Watford was found by a gardener on the Wentworth Estate in Virginia Water, located in the English county of Surrey. He was discovered on Monday.
The father of three, 66, made his fortune from oil refineries in Ukraine then set up a property firm after moving to Britain, The Sun reports.
Police are probing the death with the “utmost seriousness” amid fears he could have been on a hit list. Moscow has been linked to a number of exile deaths in Britain.
A family friend said: “His state of mind might have been affected by the situation in the Ukraine,
“The timing of his death and the invasion of Ukraine was surely not coincidental.”
Another associate said: “His death raises questions. After all the other suspicious deaths of Russian nationals and associates in the UK, it is only natural there will be speculation about his death.” Mr Watford changed his name from Tolstosheya after moving here in the 2000s.
He lived with Estonian wife Jane, their two children and an older son from his first marriage, in a $33 million mansion on the Wentworth Estate.
The couple appeared in a Sunday Times property article when they were selling their house in 2015, in which they boasted of their opulent lifestyle of private jets and country mansions.
He later moved to Dormy House, a period villa divided into apartments. His Russian mother lived next door in one of them and was at home when her son’s body was found.
A source said: “It is truly shocking as Mikhail had everything to live for.
“He had a beautiful wife, children and dream home. It makes no sense at all.”
After Mr Watford’s death Jane shared a picture of her kissing him, while holding a cigar, on Facebook.
Yesterday Surrey Police said: “An investigation into the circumstances of the death is under way but it is not believed there are any suspicious circumstances at this time.”

Barr was the AG when Epstein killed himself in prison in August 2019. He was tasked with investigating how Epstein was able to kill himself while awaiting trial for sex trafficking.
Conspiracy theorists speculated that Epstein was murdered in order to stop him from telling prosecutors about who else was involved in his child sex trafficking ring, if anyone. His family attorneys also said that the marks on his neck looked as though he had been strangled and not hanged by a sheet.
