It's a multi-faceted plan. Now that many of our crops are made "Round Up ready" by genetic modification (GMO's) the price of Round Up is increasing rapidly. In my area of the country it's doubled since last year and the generics are up 80%.
That, and the price/unavailability of urea has many seed corn farmers planting soy, guaranteeing a shortage of corn at harvest this year, and worse shortages next year. Yet we're still putting corn ethanol in our gasoline. Madness, sheer madness.
