The Zaporizhzhya Nuclear Power Plant (the NPP) has been controlled by the Russian army since February 28, the Russian Defense Ministry said.

"The Russian Armed Forces took under their control the city of Enerhodar, the Zaporizhzhya Nuclear Power Plant and the adjacent territory on February 28," Russian Defense Ministry spokesman Igor Konashenkov said on Friday.

"The servicemen of the Ukrainian National Guard who guarded the power plant left the facility and went in an unknown direction before the Russian units came. The plant's facilities and the adjacent territory were taken under control by Russian troops. The personnel of the Zaporizhzhya Nuclear Power Plant have continued routine maintenance of the facilities and radiation control normally for the past five days," Konashenkov said.

KYIV. March 4 (Interfax) - The Ukrainian Navy's flagship under repairs was sunk by its commander, Ukrainian Defense Minister Oleksiy Reznikov said.

"The commander of the Ukrainian Navy flagship has fulfilled the order to sink the ship, so that the Hetman Sahaidachny frigate under repairs does not fall into the hands of the enemy. It's hard to imagine a more difficult decision to make," Reznikov said on Facebook on Friday.

He said he was hoping that Ukraine would build a new, "modern and powerful" fleet in the future.
