Prosecutor who indicted ex-Illinois speaker makes ominous warning: corruption probe not over

U.S. Attorney John Lausch, a holdover from the Trump administration leading the bribery case, says "I’ve defined our problem as a very stubborn one.”

The U.S. attorney who secured a 22-count indictment against former Illinois House Speaker Michael Madigan says there's more work to be done.

Northern District of Illinois U.S. Attorney John Lausch, a holdover from the Trump administration, stayed on after President Joe Biden took office at the behest of U.S. Sen. Dick Durbin, D-Springfield.

As other U.S. attorneys that former President Donald Trump selected were leaving their posts to make way for Biden appointees, Durbin said Lausch was involved in important investigations and should remain.

In the summer of 2020, Lausch’s office revealed a deferred prosecution agreement with utility ComEd, in which the company admitted to a bribery scheme involving several individuals and agreed to pay the government a $200 million fine. Madigan was labeled “Public Official A” in the ComEd document as the clear target of the federal corruption probe.

In Wednesday's news conference announcing the indictment of Madigan on racketeering and other charges, prosecutors alleged Madigan's political operation was a criminal enterprise that sought to keep the former speaker in power and financially benefit himself and his associates.

In announcing the indictment against Madigan Wednesday, Lausch said he will continue to be on the job as long as Biden allows.

“I was here as an assistant U.S. attorney for a number of years before I had the great fortune to come back in this job,” Lausch said. “I think we all shake our heads sometimes when we think that there’s another corruption case that’s happening. It happens with other crimes as well. And that’s why I’ve defined our problem as a very stubborn one.”

Despite Wednesday's 22-count indictment against the longtime former speaker of the Illinois House, the investigation into political corruption under the dome in Springfield – and at city halls in Chicago and elsewhere – continues, Lausch said.

He said some investigations take time and there isn’t much of a deadline other than the statute of limitation for some crimes.

“We follow the evidence where it leads,” he added. “Sometimes we get there more quickly than we think. Other times it takes us longer, and I think as you all know well, we’re pretty thorough and deliberate in this shop.”

While Madigan is the latest to face federal charges, he's far from the first.

The federal probe nabbed late former Democratic state Sen. Martin Sandoval, who pleaded guilty in early 2020 of taking bribes from red light camera vendors to effectively kill legislation regulating the industry. In a separate case, federal prosecutors arrested former Democratic state Rep. Luis Arroyo in 2019, who was charged with taking a bribe from a state senator believed to be former state Sen. Terry Link. Link was later charged with tax evasion. There's also the pending charge against state Sen. Tom Cullerton, D-Villa Park, who's accused of embezzling from a labor union. Cullerton resigned his job last week and is expected to plead guilty.

Suicide bombing in Peshawar, Pakistan kills 56, injures close to 200

The attack occurred at a Shiite mosque as worshippers gathered for Friday prayers.

A suicide bomber in Pakistan struck a Shiite mosque in the northwestern city of Peshawar on Friday, killing at least 50 people and injuring nearly 200 more.

No group has yet claimed responsibility for the attack, though both the Islamic State group and the Pakistani Taliban have carried out similar attacks in the recent past in the area, which is close to the border with Afghanistan.

The city's police chief Muhammed Ejaz Khan said the violence began when an armed attacker opened fire on police outside the house of worship. The attackers killed one officer and injured another. The attacker then ran inside the mosque and set off his suicide vest, which reportedly contained 12 pounds of explosives.

The explosion occurred as worshippers had gathered for Friday prayers. Doctors at Lady Reading Hospital are now working desperately to tend to the wounded.

Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan condemned the bombing, and his national security adviser called it a "heinous terrorist attack," promising that those responsible would be "brought to justice."

The Shiite minority in Pakistan frequently come under attack, especially amid a recent and significant increase in violence experienced in communities along the Afghan border. Many such attacks have been claimed by the Pakistani Taliban, who have been emboldened considerably since the Afghan Taliban's rise to power last August.

The Clintons’ Russia-Ukraine Grift

Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton was quick to cast blame as war unfolded in Ukraine. On MSNBC last week, she blasted former President Trump for “giving aid and comfort to Vladimir Putin” with an offhand remark that the Russian president was a “genius.” Mrs. Clinton conveniently omitted mention that not too long ago, she and her husband had raked in millions working both sides of a Russia-Ukraine grift.

Judicial Watch broke the story of former president Bill Clinton’s multi-million-dollar haul from speech fees while his wife presided over U.S. foreign policy. In a joint investigation with the Washington Times, Judicial Watch found that Mr. Clinton gave 215 speeches, taking in $48 million. According to documents obtained by Judicial Watch in Freedom of Information Act litigation, State Department officials charged with reviewing proposed Bill Clinton speeches for possible conflicts of interest did not object to a single one.

The speech fees included a jaw-dropping $500,000 check from the Russian investment firm Renaissance Capital for a single speech. Years later, leaked emails revealed the close connection between Renaissance Capital and Putin’s inner circle. Reuters reported that the emails show top Renaissance officials awarding an unspecified stake in the firm to Matthias Warnig, a close Putin ally. “Warnig served as an officer in East Germany’s Stasi secret police at the same time as Putin was a KGB officer in Dresden in the late 1980s,” Reuters noted.

The Clintons also cultivated a relationship with Putin-connected oligarch Victor Vekselberg, who donated an estimated $75,000 to the Clinton Foundation. In 2018, Vekselberg was one of seven oligarchs sanctioned by the Trump Administration for activities related to the Russian government’s “malign activity…including continuing to occupy Crimea and instigate violence in eastern Ukraine.”

According to findings by investigative reporter John Solomon, Vekselberg also was involved in the Uranium One controversy—another lucrative source of cash for the Clinton network. Uranium One was a Canadian uranium mining firm with U.S. holdings that the Russians wanted to buy. The vehicle for the purchase was Rosatom, the Russian state atomic energy corporation. Because uranium is a strategic asset, the U.S. government had to approve deal. Enter Vekselberg and Secretary of State Clinton.

At the time of Bill Clinton’s $500,000 Russian speaking engagement, the former president sought permission from the State Department to meet with Vekselberg and Arkady Dvorkovich, a senior official of Rosatom, during the Moscow trip. Russia needed sign-off from the State Department on the inter-agency panel responsible for deciding the fate of the deal.

You don’t need to be a genius to connect the dots between a $500,000 “speaking fee,” a trip to Moscow, and Russia’s goal of cornering a big chunk of the global uranium market.

NATO To Send ‘Terrorists’ Trained In Syria’s Al-Tanf Garrison To Ukraine: Russian Intelligence

The NATO is preparing to send “terrorists” trained in Syria to fight Russian forces in Ukraine, Russia’s Foreign Intelligence Service (SVR) warned on March 4.

According to the intelligence service, the “terrorists” were trained at the US al-Tanf garrison in southeastern Syria. The service warned that the US continues to form new “terrorist units” in the Middle East and Africa in order to send them to Ukraine via Poland.

Around 200 US troops are currently deployed at al-Tanf. The garrison, which was established in 2016, also hosts hundreds of US-backed Syrian fighters. Some of these fighters are reportedly affiliated with ISIS.

Moreover, the US maintains a number of M142 High Mobility Artillery Rocket Systems (HIMARS) in the garrison. These systems can be armed with MGM-140 ATACMS tactical ballistic missiles with a range of 300 kilometers.

Ukrainian Armed Forces Destroyed Headquarters Of Azov Nationalist Battalion In Mariupol – Report

The headquarters of the Azov special detachment in Mariupol were hit with the Tochka-U tactical missile system by the Ukrainian Armed Forces, according to the DPR People’s Militia.

According to the report, more than 20 militants were killed.

“The location of the headquarters of a separate special purpose detachment “Azov” in the south-west of Mariupol was struck by the armed forces of Ukrainewith the “Tochka-U” tactical missile system. As a result of the strike, more than 20 militants and 10 pieces of equipment were destroyed,” the report says.

The attack was a result of the contradictions between the UAF command and commanders of the Azov battalion.

Members of the Azov nationalist battalion, who are now blockaded in the city of Mariupol, reportedly refuse to obey and coordinate their actions with the command of the Ukrainian Army.

The nationalist battalions pose a big threat not only to the Russian soldiers, but also to the local civilians, who were kept in hostage in the city, as well as to the current regime in Kiev and President Volodymir Zelenskiy. The crowds of armed nationalists have gained power in Ukraine during the last few years. Today, when the Russian troops have taken control over several major cities and continue their advance, these members of the Ukrainian nationalist battalions would point their guns at Mr. Zelenskiy if he accepts the defeat of Ukraine. Meanwhile, the numbers of casualties are growing in the ranks of the both warring sides, as well as among the civilians.

Treasury Sanctions 'Russian-Backed' News Outlets For 'Advancing False Narratives' That 'Undermine Covid Vaccines,' Paint Ukraine As 'Aggressor'

Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen on Thursday sanctioned a host of Russian-backed news outlets for allegedly "advancing false narratives" and spreading "false information" to "undermine COVID-19 vaccines" and paint "Ukrainian government officials as the aggressor in the Russia-Ukraine relationship."

Yellen's sanctions hit the Strategic Culture Foundation, Odna Rodyna, Rhythm of Eurasia, Journal Kamerton, InfoRos, SouthFront, United World International, New Eastern Outlook, Oriental Review and Geopolitica.

Yellen provided no evidence or specific examples of any "false information" the various websites allegedly spread to "undermine COVID-19 vaccines" in her press release announcing the sanctions.

The sanctions freeze the websites' assets and ban Americans from donating to them.

Anonymous "US intelligence officials" last month accused ZeroHedge of "amplifying Kremlin propaganda" for sharing content from the Strategic Culture Foundation and there was language in Yellen's press release which appeared to allude to ZeroHedge being in her sights as well.

This latest narrative makes no sense and will obviously fall apart with actual scrutiny. If these so called assassins have been in the city for six weeks (probably more) then why are they only now just making attempts on Zelensky, when his security is at its highest?

Steve Bannon Praises Chris Hayes on Ukraine, Slams Sean Hannity For Working to ‘Send Your Kids to War’ Against Putin

On Thursday’s episode of his influential podcast, War Room, Steve Bannon praised MSNBC’s Chris Hayes and tore into Fox New’s Sean Hannity over their differing approaches to covering the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

Bannon played a clip from Hayes’ MSNBC program and praised Hayes for a “moment of truth” for saying that the “average Russian has nothing to do with this.” Bannon, the former senior Trump adviser, lamented the U.S. and Europe’s crippling sanctions on the Russian economy and quoted a Columbia professor who called such moves a “declaration of war” on Russia.

Later in the podcast, Bannon spoke with former Trump adviser Steve Cortes and kicked off the interview by noting that Hannity, Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC), and all the “neocons out there, all they want to do is send your kids to war with your dollars.”

“How is Chris Hayes having segments like that, probably the most powerful segment that’s been done yet on this war, the real war? And you’ve got Hannity, Hannity is trying to decapitate a regime, he’s trying to have regime change,” Bannon said, referencing Hannity’s suggestion on Wednesday to “cut the head of the snake off” and assassinate Putin.

Cortes jumped in saying that Hannity is “losing the plot completely” because “he’s had too much of Lindsey Graham.”

“When you have Lindsey Graham on your show, the globalist loser, every other night and you do nothing but love and kiss up to him, unfortunately, it’s going to warp your mind, I guess, over time. And that’s what’s happened to Hannity.”

Oklahoma house committee approves Texas-style bill that bans nearly all abortions==

The Oklahoma House Public Health Committee voted for a complete ban on abortions on Wednesday.

Republicans in Oklahoma passed a bill on Wednesday that would prohibit all abortions in the state, except for those done for to save the life of the mother. It relies on private lawsuits to enforce the law, similar to Texas’ legislation.

“A physician may not knowingly perform or induce an abortion on a pregnant woman, unless such abortion is performed to save the life of the mother,” House Bill 4327 states.

The law, which now moves to the full Oklahoma House for a vote, “shall be enforced exclusively through private civil actions.”

The law allows for civil suits against anyone that “aids or abets the performance or inducement of an abortion, including paying for or reimbursing the costs of an abortion through insurance or otherwise.”

It sets a minimum amount of damages at $10k and lawsuits can be brought for up to four years after the abortion. It prohibits rapists who impregnate a woman from suing under this law. A baby’s mother cannot be sued.

Spygate Figure Whose Attorney Outed Him To The New York Times Now Wants His Name Hidden In Court Documents

Because the special counsel’s office did not identify Rodney Joffe, either by name or in all but name, John Durham has nothing to answer for.

No longer able to control the media narrative about Rodney Joffe’s role in peddling the Alfa Bank hoax to the FBI and CIA, his attorneys now seek to silence Special Counsel John Durham. That revelation came from a brief docket entry in a federal district court earlier this week documenting a sealed motion to intervene that Joffe’s lawyers had filed in the criminal case against Michael Sussman, in which they asked for references to “Tech Executive-1” to be expunged from the court filings.

The special counsel’s office indicted Sussmann on September 16, 2021, charging the former Clinton campaign lawyer with one count of lying to FBI General Counsel James Baker when Sussmann provided Baker information purporting to show a secret communication channel between the Trump organization and the Russian-based Alfa Bank. Specifically, the indictment charged that “Sussmann lied about the capacity in which he was providing the allegations to the FBI,” with Sussmann falsely stating “he was not doing his work on the aforementioned allegations ‘for any client.’”

According to the indictment, Sussmann was acting “on behalf of specific clients, namely, (i) a U.S. technology industry executive (‘Tech Executive-1’) at a U.S. Internet company (‘Internet Company-1’), and (ii) the Hillary Clinton Presidential Campaign (the ‘Clinton Campaign’).”

At no point in the indictment, or in later court filings, did Durham name Joffe as Tech Executive-1, or even for that matter name the “U.S. Internet company” at which Joffe worked. Nonetheless, in a transparent attempt to frame the narrative about his role in pushing the Alfa Bank hoax, Joffe’s attorney confirmed that his client was “Tech Executive-1” in an interview with The New York Times.

The New York Times Helps Both Ways

The Times’ chief Clinton spinner, Charlie Savage, along with Adam Goldman, then provided Joffe’s legal team a PR assist in the September 30, 2021 article, “Trump Server Mystery Produces Fresh Conflict.” With a subhead proclaiming that internet researchers were pushing back on suggestions in the Sussman indictment that they did not believe their own Alfa Bank research, the Times article quoted Joffe’s attorney, Steven A. Tyrrell, as he framed his client as merely a concerned tech expert.

“His client had a duty to share the information with the F.B.I.,” the Times reported Tyrrell as stating. Savage and Goldman then aided that take by noting that Joffe in 2013 “received the F.B.I. Director’s Award for helping crack a cybercrime case, and retired this month from Neustar, another information services company.”

Michigan State House GOP Special Primary Winner Says He Wants To Decertify Michigan’s 2020 Election

The winner of a GOP primary in a Michigan State House special election, Robert Regan, says he will support decertification of Michigan’s fraudulent 2020 election.

Regan won the primary election because Michigan voters know the 2020 election was stolen, and they want justice.

Fox 17 reports,

Robert “RJ” Regan prides himself in being a grassroots conservative and thinks his ground game helped lead him to a close victory in Tuesday’s 74th district GOP special primary, but according to experts his victory could also be a sign of former President Donald Trump’s increasing and lasting influence on the Republican Party and its base.

Regan’s victory in Tuesday’s primary came as a bit of surprise in some circles, as he edged out three other candidates including Walker Mayor Pro-tem Steven Gilbert, who received endorsements from the Michigan Chamber and Michigan Freedom Network among other organizations and lawmakers.

Voters are done with establishment hacks.

Regan recently appeared in an interview where he said he supports decertification, post-election audits, voter ID, and other election integrity measures.

Regan: I think our only option at this point is maybe a petition drive to get it on the ballot. And if we do that, we could vote to decertify or we’re going to have to actually take it through a court system with a different avenue and really go after it. Maybe it’s a national security issue, or really going after the qualified voter file, looking at those signature cards.

Parseghian: So do you trust you know, last night’s results when you won?

Regan: Well, they’re going to do a full canvas audit tomorrow. I think it’s tomorrow or Thursday, it seems what they said. I actually did send out a letter to our county prosecutor and said, Listen, we need to make sure that this is on the up and up and legit and our elections director assured me, I mean for an hour and he explained to me how there’s absolutely no way this could be going on and we talked about the qualified voter files. And I asked respectfully for a hand count at the end of the night of each tabulation machine. I said this is going to all turn out election 10 or 15 minutes to do a hand count tabulation machine before the tapes are signed. So you know, we’ll find out I’m going to put my trust in Jarrett in the system downtown Grand Rapids, and we’ll see what they say after tomorrow’s audit.

Parseghian: But it’s not the same system that you know, they used in 2020 and Kent County, the clerk’s here, and the counties all across the state. It’s the same thing, right? They don’t really change anything.

Regan: right. They didn’t really change a whole lot. I think the big difference is we didn’t have the mass absentee ballot applications being mailed out. We do have the voter ID now. So things have changed and plus it’s a very small turnout election.

A second person is in intensive care with a suspected case of Japanese encephalitis

A second person is on life support with suspected Japanese encephalitis in an unprecedented outbreak on Aussie shores.

A NSW resident is in intensive care with a “highly probable” case of Japanese encephalitis, health officials revealed Friday.

A woman in Queensland was also placed on life support after contracting the disease, which is spread by mosquitoes.

More cases are expected in coming days, with several patients in NSW undergoing testing.

Locally acquired cases of Japanese encephalitis have never previously been identified in NSW.

“NSW Health is cautioning people undertaking outdoor activities such as camping and fishing to carefully consider their plans,” NSW Health Acting Chief Health Officer Dr Marianne Gale said.

“This is especially important for people planning activities near waterways or where mosquitoes are present, particularly the Murray River and its branches.”

The NSW case is a resident from the Victoria border region, while the Queensland patient, who is in her 60s recently travelled to regional areas in the state’s south.

The patient in NSW is stable and the Queensland case is in a critical condition.

The unfolding outbreak of the disease in Queensland, NSW, Victoria and South Australia has been declared a communicable disease incident of national significance.

Prior to this year the disease had never been observed in southern Australia.

The decision by the Commonwealth’s acting chief medical officer on Friday afternoon means the virus’ spread will now be tackled by a national team involving state and federal officials.

“I have declared the (Japanese encephalitis virus) situation a communicable disease incident of national significance after determining a national approach is required in relation to co-ordination of health policy, interventions and public messaging,” Dr Sonya Bennett said.

RGV Agents Arrest Multiple Gang Members and Sex Offenders

EDINBURG, Texas – Rio Grande Valley (RGV) Sector Border Patrol agents arrested three migrants with prior convictions for sexual crimes and three gang members.

On March 2, a McAllen Border Patrol Station (MCS) processing agent encountered a 54-year-old Salvadoran national whose records checks indicate he is a Paisas gang member.

Later that evening, criminal records checks conducted on a Honduran national revealed he was convicted of aggravated criminal sexual assault of a child 13-16 years old in Waukegan, Illinois in 2012. He was sentenced to 180 days incarceration and 24 months’ probation. He was subsequently removed from the United States.

On March 3, RGV agents conducting records checks identified a Honduran subject as a sex offender with a prior arrest in 2016 for Lewd or Lascivious Acts with a Minor, in Florida. He was subsequently sentenced to 12 months’ probation.

Later that day, Rio Grande City Border Patrol Station agents apprehended a group of two migrants near Roma, Texas, and transported them to the station for processing. Records checks on a Salvadoran national revealed he is an 18th Street gang member.

On March 4, Fort Brown Border Patrol Station agents conducted records checks on Santos Sanchez Aldiniz, a Mexican national, apprehended with a group of three migrants in Brownsville, Texas. His criminal history revealed he is a sex offender convicted for aggravated sexual assault of a child in 2013 out of Houston, Texas. He was subsequently sentenced to 3 years confinement.

Airbnb Shuts Down Operations in Russia and Belarus – But Loves Genocidal China

Popular rental platform Airbnb has announced plans to suspend all operations in Russia and Belarus following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. Despite taking a stand over Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, the company has no problem with continuing to do business with communist China after doubling down as a sponsor of the Genocide Games.

Axios reports that Airbnb is “suspending all operations in Russia and Belarus.” The announcement comes from Airbnb CEO Brian Chesky who tweeted the decision late on Thursday this week.

Airbnb said in a statement on Friday: “This means that we will block calendars from accepting new bookings in both countries until further notice. We will also restrict users in Belarus and Russia from making new reservations as guests. We certainly hope that as we look to the future, a path to peace is forged.”

there are currently more than 93,000 Airbnb listings in Russia and almost 4,000 in Belarus, according to AirDNA. Airbnb has also waived fees for hosts and those booking rental locations in Ukraine in an effort to support those in the country.

The decision to waive fees came after Airbnb discovered that members of the public were booking stays in Ukraine with no plans of traveling there as a way to provide financial support to Ukrainians unable to leave the country. Ukraine has around 17,000 active Airbnb rental listings.

Airbnb has also pledged to offer free housing to 100,000 Ukrainian refugees and says so far it has received “overwhelming support” for the project. The company stated that over 260,000 people have visited a web page to sign up to be a host or donate to the initiative.

Airbnb is the latest in a long line of companies implementing Russian boycotts since the country invaded Ukraine in recent weeks. Multiple tech giants have taken a stand against the Russian government, as major platforms banning Russian media across the EU. Facebook (including Instagram), YouTube, and TikTok have completely banned Russian media outlets like Russia Today and Sputnik throughout the European Union.

Australian sports minister calls for Russia to be excluded from world sport after Ukraine invasion

The federal sports minister has joined forces with other ministers from allied nations in calling for Russia — and Russian athletes — to be exiled from world sport after the invasion of Ukraine.

Key points:

Athletes from Russia and Belarus have already been barred from several sports after Russia invaded Ukraine

Australia's sports minister has joined his international counterparts in calling for the country to be exiled completely from world sport

The demand comes as the opening ceremony of the Winter Paralympics begins in Beijing

In a joint statement released late on Friday, the ministers have condemned the actions of the Russian government and called for a series of sanctions by sporting bodies, many of which have already been implemented after the International Olympic Committee (IOC) called for similar actions last week.

"Athletes and teams representing Russia or Belarus are not welcome in Australia," Sports Minister Richard Colbeck said.

The impact has already been felt in Australia with this week's official draw for September's FIBA Women's Basketball World Cup to be staged in Sydney.

Organisers were only able to confirm 11 of the 12 countries participating. The 12th country was listed in the draw as 'TBD' after the sports governing body elected to exclude the Russian team.
