GUN SWOOP Armed police seal off street and surround a house amid large-scale emergency response in South Shields

ARMED cops swooped on a home in a South Shields cul de sac in dramatic scenes today.

Officers were seen pointing guns at the front and back doors of a property in Marshall Wallis Road.

Forensics teams have also been spotted going into a home in the little street.

The specially-trained officers have also been searching drains, it's reported.

A stretch of the road has been taped off throughout the day.

It's understood emergency services had rushed to the area as a result of a serious attack in the early hours of the morning.

Around seven armed officers pointed guns towards a terraced property at 6pm.

Two policeman were seen heading around the back of the house.

One local said: "It's a really scary thing when there are armed police on the street.

"I left my door unlocked last night by accident.

"It really makes you worry about your safety."

Another said: "My husband went out to get a paper.

"When he came back he said the area had been cordoned off by police."

Ambulances also arrived at around 1.45am.

Northumbria Police have been contacted for comment.
