Well yes they would. And that's the point. Everything is racist if you want it to be. The race card is played out to the point that it barely has an effect anymore.
Roseanne knew what she was doing and didn't do this by mistake. Even though what she said isn't racist, she knew that the media would take it that way.
She's not stupid. If abc took control of her show and as reported in the media were
going to revamp it and take the politics out of it....
and if she was under contract and going to be forced to play a ridiculously bland character that would ultimately ruin her brand,
It was in her best interest to say something scandalous that would get her thrown off the show....no Roseanne, no show.
