Ukraine/Russia: Beware the False Flags

Unhinged US rhetoric risks a wider war

Beware the false flags. But also beware the fake news and false promises, as they are the means for dangerous ends: increased U.S. and NATO involvement in the war between Russia and Ukraine.

On Thursday, Senator Lindsey Graham – a longtime member of the Washington D.C. war party – called for the assassination of Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Florida Senator Marco Rubio soon followed with claims that Putin would “use chemical or biological weapons” and “slaughter millions.” This same Marco Rubio has been a proponent of NATO expansion - the very policy that contributed to the environment that led to Russia’s invasion.

If Putin’s goal is to “slaughter millions” (or even if that is a secondary result of his goals), he sure is going about it the wrong way. Hundreds of thousands of Ukrainians have sought security in Hungary and Romania. More than 700,000 Ukrainians have fled to Poland, Ukraine’s neighbor to the west. Certainly Russia has the means to target these fleeing civilians. Even when Russia seized the Ukrainian port city of Kherson, there were reports of 300 dead civilians after “days of intense fighting.” We can grieve the loss of life and still demand U.S. politicians convey accurate information to Americans.

Those Ukrainians who have remained at their homes have taken to the streets to protest Russia’s occupation of their country. Have they not heard Senator Rubio’s warnings?

We assume the purpose of Rubio’s comments are not to advance the truth, but to spur increased U.S. involvement in Ukraine. To us, this means a no-fly-zone over Ukrainian airspace and NATO boots on the ground in Ukraine. After all, according to Rubio what is the alternative to intervention? “Millions” dead. It’s Rubio’s indirect call for the U.S. to enter this war.

No doubt much of this is being fueled by Ukraine President Zelensky, whose fight for his people includes spreading falsehoods to goad the West into action. Zelensky is now demanding a no-fly-zone over Ukraine and is asking for more American weapons. West Virginia Senator Joe Manchin is receptive, stating this morning “I would take nothing off the table.”

Back to Rubio. We should be scared to think that Rubio believes what he says. It’s just as likely, however, that Rubio’s comments - and the similar statements of those in power - are the result of Russian advances in Ukraine.

In other words, the window for their desired U.S./NATO intervention in Ukraine closes as Russia continues to take more territory. Desperation leads to escalated rhetoric, and explains the unhinged statements about the re-emergence of Stalin and warnings that Putin will use nuclear weapons.

To the credit of Secretary of State Anthony Blinken, the Biden Administration is shutting down talks of a no-fly-zone. From this morning:

All the while, there persists, due to social media and western press, a large degree of false hope concerning Ukraine’s chances for victory. The theory being that Ukraine will thwart Russia if only they could get a little more help. In reality, Russia is winning this war. Cities are encircled (if not outright taken), Kyiv faces Russian troops from its west and its east, and Russia may soon own the Ukrainian coast.

Meanwhile, per the latest reports, negotiations between the countries are to resume on Monday. According to Reuters, Russian news reported that “the Ukrainian side had shown some openness in the second round to reaching an agreement.”

Right now, Zelensky has a tough decision: continue fighting or come to terms with Russia. The decision becomes less difficult as Russia advances, if only because Russian success limits Ukraine’s options and bargaining power. This desperation and the diminished likelihood of Ukrainian success only increases the potential for a false flag operation to justify Western involvement in this war.

We’ve seen lies to get us into war. We’ve seen lies to continue a war. And now, in real time, we’re seeing lies to get us into another’s war. What will they do if the lies aren’t enough?

Obama Removed 500,000 Pedophiles From Background Check Database

Barack Obama ordered the FBI to remove over 500,000 names of potential murderers and pedophiles from the National Instant Criminal Background Check System, acting FBI director David Bowdich testified Wednesday.

FBI considered any person with an outstanding arrest warrant to be a fugitive. On the other hand, the Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives defined a fugitive as someone who has an outstanding arrest warrant and has crossed state lines.

That disagreement was settled at the end of Obama’s second term, when the Justice Department’s Office of Legal Counsel sided with the ATF’s interpretation. Under President Donald Trump, the DOJ defined a fugitive as a person who went to another state to dodge criminal prosecution or evade giving testimony in criminal court, and implemented the Office of Legal Counsel’s decision. The decision meant that around half a million fugitives were removed from the National Instant Criminal Background Check System.

During a Senate Judiciary Committee hearing about law enforcement’s faulty response to Parkland, Florida shooter Nikolas Cruz, California Democratic Sen. Dianne Feinstein asked Bowdich about the removal.

“That was a decision that was made under the previous administration,” Bowdich testified. “It was the Department of Justice’s Office of Legal Counsel that reviewed the law and believed that it needed to be interpreted so that if someone was a fugitive in a state, there had to be indications that they had crossed state lines.”

“Otherwise they were not known to be a fugitive under the law and the way it was interpreted,” he added.

Attorney General Jeff Sessions recently announced the Justice Department will “aggressively” pursue any person who lies on their background check.

Watch Live: U.S. Trucker Convoy Rolls on D.C. Beltway

WASHINGTON, District of Columbia — “The People’s Convoy” is rolling out to drive around the D.C. Beltway — Interstate 495 — a 64-mile loop that surrounds the nation’s capital covering Maryland, D.C., and Virginia.

The convoy is estimated to consist of several hundred trucks and over 1,000 other vehicles, including RVs.

Organizers tell Breitbart News that they have been working with local and state law enforcement, something they have been doing across the country — at times receiving a police escort. They plan to loop the Beltway twice.

“Virginia State Police respects the public’s First Amendment rights and has been in contact with various groups’ organizers to ensure their understanding of Virginia traffic laws,” a Virginia State Police spokesperson said in a statement. “These communications have also enabled us to share our expectations related to keeping traffic flowing safely and efficiently on Virginia highways, especially in the case of emergencies and for first responder vehicles.”

Virginia Gov. Glenn Youngkin (R) and Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan (R) have both been monitoring the situation but have expressed support for peaceful protest.

“We remain dedicated to ensuring that individuals can express their first amendment rights while continuing the safe flow of traffic for all travelers,” Youngkin’s office said in a statement. “We anticipate the possibility of heavier than normal traffic this weekend and will continue to monitor with the help from our state, local and federal partners.”

The convoy, which departed Adelanto, California, in late February, has for now made its central staging ground the Hagerstown Speedway in Hagerstown, Maryland.

Secretary of State Antony Blinken said Sunday on CBS’s “Face The Nation” that the United States has given the “green light” to NATO countries who have wanted to provide fighter jets to Ukraine.

Russia has warned countries offering airfields to Ukraine would be entering the ongoing conflict.

MARGARET BRENNAN: NATO has said none of its 30 members are willing to set up a no-fly zone. President Biden has been very clear. He has no interest in that or combat troops. But what more can the United States do here? If, for instance, the Polish government, a NATO member wants to send fighter jets, does that get a green light from the U.S.? Or you were afraid that that will escalate tension?

BLINKEN: No, that- that gets a green light. In fact, we’re talking with our Polish friends right now about what we might be able to do to back fill their needs if in fact they choose to provide these fighter jets to to the Ukrainians. What could we do? How can we help to make sure that they get something to backfill the planes that they’re handing over to- to the Ukrainians? We’re in very active discussions with them about that. Look, I’ve been in Europe for the last couple of days working closely as always with our allies and partners at NATO, the European Union, the G7 countries, and all of us together are continuing to take steps to increase the pressure on Russia through additional sanctions, all of which are very actively under discussion and will be implemented in the in the coming days, as well as taking further steps to give the Ukrainians what they need to defend themselves against the Russian aggression.
