Looming strike by CP Rail workers could cripple supply chain

An imminent strike by unionized rail workers and CP Rail could sever parts of Canada’s already weakened supply chain as well as severely impact this year’s growing season for farmers across North America.

On Mar. 4, Teamsters Canada Rail Conference (TCRC) voted in favour of organizing a strike by Wednesday if necessary.

The latest update by the union indicates that they hope to reach a tentative agreement with CP Rail, although outstanding issues remain.

“If we cannot reach an agreement, then as noted we will seek assistance and seek a strike mandate from the membership at that time,” stated the latest TCRC press release.

As of publication time, negotiations between the two parties and federal mediators in Calgary are ongoing, and a strike notice has yet to be issued.

The timing of the strike couldn’t be any more unfavourable, with farmers across Canada and the US now preparing for the spring planting season.

American lawmakers have also voiced their concerns about a potential strike given the interconnectedness of the two nations’ supply chains.

CP Rail is also a major transporter of Canadian oil into the US.

Several senators representing North Dakota, Montana and Indiana have signed a letter urging Prime Minister Justin Trudeau to find a resolution to the potential crisis.

“At a time when supply chains are already constrained, shutting down North America’s essential rail supply chain would create a freight capacity crisis,” wrote Republican Senators Kevin Cramer, John Hoeven, Mike Braun and Steve Daines.

Agricultural groups including Fertilizer Canada have also called for an immediate agreement between the feuding parties, citing a “potentially disastrous shutdown” of an already strained supply chain.

“Fertilizer Canada and our members are greatly concerned with the looming CP strike,” President and CEO of Fertilizer Canada Karen Proud said last week in a press release.

“The agriculture sector is already experiencing supply challenges compounded by the war in Ukraine and cannot withstand anymore disruption to the supply chain without severe consequences for farmers, food security in Canada and worldwide, and the Canadian economy.”

Approximately 75% of all fertilizer produced and used in Canada is moved by rail.

Meanwhile, sanctions on Russia – the world’s second-largest producer of fertilizer behind Canada – have worsened the cost of fertilizer, forcing farmers to pass the costs on to consumers.

Bill 28, which was tabled on Wednesday, provides for the extension of the emergency powers granted to the government until December 31, 2022.

After two years of governance by decree, Quebec Premier François Legault's government is proposing a way out of the ongoing state of health emergency in the province, a status it has renewed 103 times since the arrival of COVID-19 in March 2020.

Bill 28, “An Act to terminate the public health emergency”, was tabled on Wednesday and provides for the extension of the emergency powers granted to the government until December 31, 2022. However, the Legault government will have the ability to terminate the additional powers by amending or repealing certain orders and decrees to allow for a gradual relief of the measures.

In other words, despite the official end of the state of health emergency, which would end with the expected passage of the bill, most of the public health restrictions could remain in place until the end of the year. The bill also leaves open the possibility that the health minister may require any document or information necessary to protect the health of Quebec's population in relation to the pandemic.

Health Minister Christian Dubé introduced the legislation in the National Assembly of Quebec’s blue hall this morning, and a press conference was later held to further detail the scope of the bill in question. On Monday, a joint committee of Canada’s Parliament officially launched an inquiry into the Trudeau government’s actions against the Freedom Convoy civil liberties protesters.

The “unprecedented” inquiry will look into allegations that the Trudeau government violated protesters’ Charter rights when they arrested and detained them without charge, as well as the extreme actions of freezing bank accounts of protesters.

“The responsibilities of this committee are very, very serious. We all recognize that,” said Conservative MP Glen Motz – as reported by Blacklocks.

The committee is made up of several Liberal Party and Conservative Party appointees, as well as an appointee selected by the New Democrats.

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has already spoken publicly about the issue. In his testimony, Trudeau denied any wrongdoing on the part of his government and insisted that all decisions were made in accordance with the law. He also defended his decision to deploy police forces against the protesters, arguing that it was necessary to maintain public order.

Opposition parties have been critical of Trudeau’s response to the protests and have accused him of using excessive force against peaceful demonstrators.

Much of the investigation will look at Trudeau’s attempt at justification for invoking the Emergencies Act.

The Emergencies Act is a piece of legislation that was passed in 1988. It gives the federal government emergency powers in times of crisis. This can include things like freezing bank accounts, deploying the national police force, and other measures.

Trudeau invoked the Emergencies Act to give himself these unprecedented powers. The RCMP were deployed to remove protesters, and some bank accounts were frozen without a court order.

There has been much criticism of Trudeau’s use of the Emergencies Act in this case. Many feel that it is an abuse of power, and that it should only be used in cases of true emergency, not to shut down speech.

In another separate committee, MPs were warned by Assembly of First Nations National Chief RoseAnne Archibald that the unprecedented decision to invoke the Emergencies Act had had broad-spectrum consequences.

“Minister Marc Miller called me I believe the day before. There had been talk for a number of days about the act being invoked. The day before he actually called me and said this was going to be happening,” Archibald said.

“I am concerned and did express that concern very immediately with Minister Miller when he called me that I was concerned about the long-term implications of this.”

As a former activist who had been involved in many protests, Archibald understood the threat to free speech.

“My concern is the act is a tool and the tool itself can actually name and can actually place labels upon people,” Archibald said.

“The implications of the Emergencies Act are far and wide and that is why I am standing before you. I am a former activist myself, and I have been involved in civil actions and charged.”

How brave of Justin Trudeau to give Ukrainians some light weapons and then encourage them to go and battle the overwhelmingly superior Russian armies. How brave of him to ask them to die as they fight their lost cause.

How paradoxical that Justin Trudeau would extoll others to die such a heroic death.

Just a few weeks ago he himself had his opportunity to show the world something of his own courage as the peaceful Canadian truckers drove to Ottawa to protest his onerous lockdowns and vaccine mandates.

He quickly ran away well before the truckers even reached the outskirts of his capital!

He stayed in hiding for weeks at an undisclosed location babysat by his well-armed, extensive security detail. Trudeau’s bodyguards made sure he would not come anywhere close to his own people who came to peacefully ask that he remove the oppressive and totalitarian measures with which had had tormented his nation for nearly two years.

Now this cowardly man has emerged from hiding and from the padded safety of his perch he is loudly encouraging the Ukrainian people to go and die in the hail of Russian bullets and bombs.

First Nations leader tells MPs she’s concerned with precedent set by Emergencies Act

The Liberals are currently under an investigation for the invocation that is required by the legislation itself.

The national chief of the Assembly of First Nations told the House of Commons finance committee on Monday that the invocation of the Emergencies Act (EA) set a bad precedent for activism in Canada.

Blacklock’s Reporter reported that RoseAnne Archibald said the way the EA was invoked set a precedent for First Nations activists to be “targeted” by the federal government.

“My concern is the Act is a tool and the tool itself can actually name and can actually place labels upon people,” Chief Archibald said.

She added that she was worried there wasn’t a “level playing field” for non-Indigenous Canadians. Archibald has been involved in protests in the past that have blocked roadways and infrastructure.

“The implications of the Emergencies Act are far and wide … I am a former activist myself and I have been involved in civil actions and charged,” she said.

She told Conservative MP Philip Lawrence that she was worried that anyone “could wrongfully have their bank accounts frozen … ”

Archibald also intimated that she had insider information the EA was going to be invoked before it was announced on February 14.

“(Crown-Indigenous Relations) Minister Marc Miller called me I believe the day before,” Archibald said. “There had been talk for a number of days about the Act being invoked. The day before, he actually called me and said this was going to be happening.”

Canada Unable to Provide More Weapons to Ukraine as Inventory ‘Exhausted’: Defence Minister

Canada has exhausted the weapons it can provide to Ukraine, says Defence Minister Anita Anand.

“I believe that we have exhausted inventory from the Canadian Armed Forces to the extent that we are able to provide weapons,” Anand told host Vassy Kapelos on CBC’s Power & Politics on March 16.

“There are capacity issues that we need to make sure we are on top of for the purposes of ensuring the Canadian Armed Forces is well resourced.”

Anand made the comments while in Brussels attending a meeting of NATO defence ministers.

So far Canada has provided military equipment to Ukraine to the tune of $82.8 million according to the Department of National Defence (DND).

The lethal aid includes 4,500 M72 rocket launchers, 7,500 hand grenades, 100 Carl Gustav anti-tank recoilless rifles with 2,000 rounds of ammunition, machine guns, pistols, and carbines with 1.5 million rounds of ammunition. Continue…

Moderna’s COVID Shot Gets Canada Authorization for Kids Aged 6 to 11

Moderna Inc said on Thursday Canada authorized its COVID-19 vaccine for use in children between 6 and 11 years of age.

The vaccine, branded Spikevax, was recently cleared for use among kids in the same age group in Australia and the European Union.

Moderna last year said its two-dose vaccine generated virus-neutralizing antibodies in children aged 6-11 years and safety was comparable to that seen in clinical trials of adolescents and adults.

The vaccine, based on messenger RNA (mRNA) technology, is approved in the United States for people aged 18 and above. The company is awaiting a decision from U.S. regulators on the use of its vaccine for children aged 12 through 17 years.

Rival Pfizer’s COVID-19 shot is cleared in the United States for children as young as 5 years.

Canada in August had authorized Moderna’s vaccine for adolescents.

Business leaders from the United States and Canada are again wading into the fray over Line 5, accusing the state of Michigan of dragging its heels to ensure the controversial cross-border pipeline remains in a state of legal limbo even as both countries contend with a looming energy crisis.

In a new joint amicus brief, the Canadian Chamber of Commerce, its U.S. counterpart and chambers in Michigan, Ohio, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin reiterate their concern that shutting down the Enbridge Inc. pipeline would have “tremendous negative consequences” on both sides of the border.

“Such a shutdown would constrain an already disrupted energy supply, an especially problematic development given recent decisions related to importation of petroleum products from Russia,” reads the brief, a copy of which was obtained by The Canadian Press.

Gasoline prices have been spiking across the U.S. and Canada, a combination of production and supply-chain pressures created by the COVID-19 pandemic and exacerbated by bans on imports of Russian energy, part of the global effort to sanction Russia over its ongoing invasion of Ukraine.

The dispute over Line 5 has been raging since November 2020, when Gov. Gretchen Whitmer—citing the risk of a spill in the ecologically sensitive Straits of Mackinac, where the line crosses the Great Lakes—abruptly revoked the easement that had allowed it to operate since 1953.

Enbridge insists the pipeline is safe and has already received a level of state approval for a $500-million concrete tunnel beneath the straits that would house the line’s twin pipes and protect them from anchor strikes. The company has repeatedly insisted it would not shut down the pipeline voluntarily.

The court dispute, however, has less to do with pipeline safety and environmental impact than it does with legal jurisdiction. Whitmer and Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel have been trying to get the case heard in state court, while Calgary-based Enbridge has argued successfully that it belongs before a federal judge.

Enbridge won that argument last fall, prompting Michigan to abandon that challenge, instead taking up a separate case that was still at the county court level. That case is once again seized with the identical question of whether the dispute should be elevated to federal court. Continue…

WHO May Reject Canadian-Made Medicago COVID-19 Vaccine Because of Ties to Big Tobacco

The World Health Organization says it is expecting to reject the COVID-19 vaccine candidate from Canada’s Medicago because of the company’s ties to big tobacco.

The Medicago Covifenz vaccine was authorized in Canada last month.

Dr. Mariângela Simão, WHO’s assistant director general for drug access, vaccines and pharmaceuticals, says the application for Covifenz to get an emergency-use licence is on hold.

She said the application will likely be denied because the organization has very strict policies about engaging with tobacco companies.

A spokesman for Medicago says the company has only been told the application is on pause and notes the decision is unrelated to the vaccine’s safety or effectiveness.

Canada has a contract to buy up to 76 million doses of Covifenz but its vaccine strategy is now relying solely on mRNA vaccines from Pfizer-BioNTech and Moderna.

If the WHO denies the application it would prevent Canada from donating any of its Medicago doses to COVAX.

On Thursday, Health Canada approved the use of Moderna’s COVID-19 vaccine for children between the ages of six and 11 years old.

The two-dose vaccine known as Spikevax had already been approved for those ages 12 and up.

Newfoundland Government Opening Office in Poland to Help Relocate Ukrainian Refugees

The Newfoundland and Labrador government is opening an office in Poland to help Ukrainian refugees relocate to the province.

Premier Andrew Furey announced the plan today in St. John’s, saying the Warsaw office will work in tandem with the Canadian Embassy and be staffed by members of the provincial Office of Immigration and Multiculturalism who speak the languages in the region.

Provincial Immigration Minister Gerry Byrne joined Furey for the announcement and said the initiative is unique in Canada.

Byrne says there is a Ukrainian diaspora in Newfoundland and Labrador, with about 1,400 people in the province who identify as being of Ukrainian descent.

He says a team is already on the ground in Warsaw to gather information and figure out how the province can best serve Ukrainian refugees.

Furey and Byrne said the Warsaw office is an extension of the province’s Ukrainian Family Support Desk that was launched on March 2 to help residents bring loved ones in Ukraine to the province.

A senior Canadian general in charge of protecting North American airspace says Russia has the capability to strike this continent, bolstering the need for improved defensive systems.

Russia has spent years investing in its military, including when it comes to things like cruise missiles, and developing a variety of non-nuclear weapons among other defence measures.

Protecting North America from the threat of a cruise-missile attack is the job of the North American Aerospace Defense Command, better known by the acronym Norad.

Maj.-Gen. Eric Kenny, commander of Canadian Norad region, says Russia has the capabilities, if it so desires, to strike within North America through different means, although he doesn’t expect imminent attack.

Kenny made the comments in an interview from Yellowknife as Norad conducted a previously planned exercise that includes Canadian CF-18 fighter jets.

Kenny says the exercise aims to give new and veteran members of the Forces a feel for operating in the North, and, ideally, to give Norad a leg-up on adversaries.

“A total of $75 million in funding has been earmarked for the first five years of the program,” said a memo from Health Canada. “The overall cost of the program is dependent on the volume of claims and compensation awarded over time.”

Injury from vaccination was rare but not unprecedented, it added.

The memo said that expenses available under the Vaccine Injury Support Program include administration costs and financial supports for eligible applicants.

About 32.4 million Canadians have received at least one COVID-19 vaccine.

Health Canada senior medical advisor Dr. Supirya Sharma said in December that the long-term effects of the vaccines were unknown.

“The benefits outweigh the potential risks, but it is still a drug and still a vaccine and there are potential risks even if they’re rare,” said Sharma. “That’s why we continue to monitor it.”

Health Canada confirmed that their adverse reaction reports include 306 deaths, 123 cases of Guillain-Barre Syndrome, 78 miscarriages, 57 acute kidney injuries and 47 heart attacks. The most common serious side effect was myocarditis, affecting 1,886 people.

High rates of myocarditis prompted the National Advisory Committee on Immunization to issue an update recommendation in December, stating males aged 12 to 29 years old should not take the Moderna vaccine. The recommendation said that reports of myocarditis typically involved 27-year-old men.

The health department also said it is unsure how many compensation claims are expected under the Vaccine Injury Support Program.

Funeral expenses, said the memo, will be covered.

“Eligible individuals may receive income replacement indemnities, injury indemnities, death benefits, coverage for funeral expenses and reimbursement of eligible costs such as otherwise uncovered medical expenses,” it said.

Management of the program was contracted to Raymond Chabot Grant Thornton Consulting Group.

The Vaccine Injury Support Program began accepting applications in June 2021.

“Only vaccines that are proven to be safe, effective and of high quality are approved for use in Canada,” said Health Canada. “As with all vaccines and any medication, there’s a chance that there will be a serious side effect.”

King is a primary care paramedic serving communities east of Edmonton. After ten years on the job, she was forced onto unpaid leave in December after refusing to comply with the AHS vaccine mandate and having her religious exemption request denied.

Councillors voted 13-2 in favour of sending a letter to the Calgary Police Commission suggesting that weekly pro-freedom protests have 'damaging impacts to Calgarians who have been exposed to persistent protest activity over a prolonged period of time.'

On March 15, four days after a standoff between freedom protesters and a counter-protest group, Calgary's city council voted 13-2 in favour of sending a letter to the police commission asking for officers to prioritize bystanders and businesses in the downtown core.

Social media has been taken by storm this week in Calgary, following a heated standoff between anti-lockdown protesters and a group opposed to the weekly demonstration that has been a regular occurrence throughout the pandemic.

Both sides of the political spectrum took to Twitter to hash out their differences regarding how the police handled the situation, eventually leading to a discussion about the actual topic — the continuation of the recurring Saturday freedom protests.

City council met on March 15 to discuss the “Beltline protests”, sparking a vote to send a drafted letter to the Calgary Police Commission. The vote passed 13-2 in favour, with councillors Sean Chu and Dan Mclean opposing.

In the letter, councillors suggest that the recurring protests have “damaging impacts to Calgarians who have been exposed to persistent protest activity over a prolonged period of time.”

The letter also shares some perspectives from residents of the Beltline, with one citizen saying “We are trapped inside our own homes and neighbourhood, with an impending sense that something worse will come each week,” and another stating “I have changed my Saturday routine in the past year to ensure I do not have to leave my home. My ability to enjoy my community has been stripped of me.”

The last quote has some objective truth to it, as the protests have been happening for over a year, though there have been virtually no issues, until the counter-protesters began to gather in opposition the past two weekends.

Calgary Mayor Jyoti Gondek says “Something needs to change; what has been the practice is not working.”

Gondek took to Twitter to back the counter-protesters, saying “Community members standing their ground are not 'counter-protestors'. They are people with a right to a safe & welcoming community.”

Gondek's stance on how the city should deal with COVID is a major topic at these protests, her advocation for vaccine passports — and previously enforcing it — is a factor in why they even happen.

It remains unclear how police plan to respond city council's request and how demonstrations this weekend will be handled.

This is the third outbreak of highly pathogenic bird flu reported in the state of Iowa in less than a month. Gov. Kim Reynold has issued a disaster proclamation for Taylor County in response to a confirmed positive case of bird flu, KCCI Des Moines reported.

The Gateway Pundit reported on the Azov Battalion previously. Members of this group were recognized at the U.S. Embassy in Ukraine in 2014. The group as we noted, is violent, especially against groups like transvestites, gypsies, and immigrants.

According to a former U.S. ambassador to Russia, Michael McFaul, in his interview on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe,” he claimed that there are no Nazis in Ukraine. “He’s [Putin] talking about denazification. There are no Nazis in Ukraine,” McFaul said.

He also generally described a continuing military offensive bent on eradicating Ukraine of "Nazis" - which was accented by the large slogan in Russian which appeared on the stage: "For a world without Nazism".

Someone needs to be around to expose the media's lies

The DCI supports democracy and social cohesion in Canada by building citizen resilience against misinformation and disinformation, and building partnerships to support a healthy digital information society.”

Calgary city officials and Calgary Police are urging “all citizens to reconsider participating in any unpermitted events” after Mayor Jyoti Gondek and City Council secured an emergency court injunction to respond to weekend freedom protests.

According to the City of Calgary’s news release, the injunction allows the city to better enforce bylaws and legislation and to give law enforcement more power to respond to demonstrators.

Every Saturday, thousands of protesters march through downtown Calgary in opposition to pandemic restrictions, mandates and the erosion of civil liberties.

“The ongoing protests in the Beltline (area) have greatly impacted and compromised the safety, well-being and daily life of residents, visitors and businesses,” Gondek said in the release.

“Beltline residents, visitors and businesses have every right to lead their lives without fear and disturbance. It is time for protestors to voluntarily move to more appropriate venues.”

Calgary Police have said that they are preparing an “enforcement plan” now that the injunction was granted. Continue…

Speaking to Global News, Ruffalo said that the reason he and other celebrities are participating in the attempt to boycott the pipeline is because “people listen to us.”

“We have this privilege and we have to use it for the right thing,” he said, refusing to acknowledge that his efforts could cost thousands of jobs.

“None of this matters if our children can’t drink the water, they can’t breathe the air, they can’t go outside, the world burns around them,” said the bleeding heart liberal. “None of this means anything anymore. We’re becoming desensitized to this insanity that we’re living in.”

The letter is part of the so-called “No More Dirty Banks” campaign, which claims that the RBC has invested more than $160 billion since 2015 to finance tar sands, fuel extraction, and transport.

On Friday, March 18, the Russian Permanent Representative at to the United States Security Council Vassily Nebenzia presented what the Russian government claims is proof of a US bioweapon program in Ukraine and Georiga (Gateway Pundit reported). Nebenzia claims that the program has been running since 2005, and that “American colleagues were not assisting the Ministry of Health as they claimed, but rather the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine.”

According to Nebenzia, the US Department of Defense “delegated broad authorities to its affiliated contractor Black & Veatch in cooperation with Ukrainian state authorities.” The experiments on deadly pathogens in Ukraine were not conducted by Ukrainians, but by Pentagon personnel and foreign researchers, Nebenzia claims.

“The Defense Threat Reduction Agency (DTRA) competitively awarded Black & Veatch Special Projects Corp. (Black & Veatch) one of its Biological Threat Reduction Integrating Contracts (BTRIC) in 2008 (in Ukraine). The 5-year IDIQ contract (with a 5-year option) has a collective ceiling of $4B among the five selected contractors”, the Black & Veatch website acknowledges.

“Simply speaking, Ukrainian authorities gave Pentagon a carte blanche and let them carry out dangerous biological experiments on the territory of Ukraine. Thereby, the American contractor was exempt from any taxes under Ukrainian legislation”, Nebenzia said. And Russia will be blocked, in theory at least, from being able to accept U.S. dollars for its wheat export. On March 9 President Putin signed an order banning the exports of some goods and raw materials:

The order includes a ban or restrictions on “exports outside of the Russian Federation’s territory and (or) imports to the Russian Federation’s territory of products and (or) raw materials,” according to an Interfax news agency translation of the order released on Tuesday.

While wheat is not mentioned specifically in this order, those who have bought wheat from Russia in the past will need to consider very seriously whether they will be able to buy Russian grain this year. There are two possible terrible scenarios. First, because of the war Ukraine will not be able to plant its crop. No crop, no exports. Second, Russia will keep all of its wheat at home to ensure its citizens have enough to eat. That means those parts of the world that depended on Russia as its grocer will have to find an alternative supply and will have to pay substantially higher prices if they can find another country able to fill the demand.

But that is only the beginning of the looming agricultural disaster for the anti-Russian world. One word–POTASH. Potash is a key ingredient in producing fertilizer.

The potash component corrects the deficiency of potassium in the soil. As a natural mineral, potash is an important nutrient that enhances water retention, disease resistance and general crop productivity.

Russia Confirms It Is Using Hypersonic Missiles In Ukraine

Russia said it fired a hypersonic aero-ballistic air-to-ground missile for the first time in the three-week invasion of Ukraine, destroying a weapons bunker in the southwestern region of the country, according to Bloomberg.

Russian Ministry of Defense spokesman Igor Konashenkov told a daily briefing that the Kh-47M2 Kinzhal (also known as "dagger") hypersonic missile struck an underground warehouse containing rockets and ammunition in the village of Deliatyn in the Ivano-Frankivsk region on Friday.

Ukraine didn't report any Russian attack on the military facility overnight and did not immediately comment on Russia's claims. There is also no mention of explosions on social media, though hitting a "big underground" ammunition storage would be loud.

If the Kinzhal was indeed used, it would be first such use of a hypersonic missile - it travels at Mach 10 speeds (or about 7,672 mph) in an unpredictable flight path, making it near impossible for the most advanced missile defense shields to shoot down.

The advanced weaponry was unveiled by Russian President Vladimir Putin in 2018 and is air-launched from Tu-22M3 bombers or MiG-31K interceptors.

Russia has prided itself in being at the forefront of this technology (here & here), becoming the global leader in hypersonic missiles. The new weapon is so advanced that even the US has yet to field because it has suffered many setbacks in the development phase.

When defending North America against Russian and Chinese hypersonic missiles, NORAD commander Gen. Glen VanHerck told CTVNews, "hypersonic weapons are extremely difficult to detect and counter given these weapons' speed, maneuverability, low flight paths, and unpredictable trajectories."

With that being said, VanHerck added: "Hypersonic weapons challenge NORAD's ability to provide threat warning and attack assessments for Canada and the United States."

Denis Beaudoin, who works as Director of Financial Crime for the RCMP, was asked during a House of Commons finance committee meeting on March 7 by Conservative Party of Canada (CPC) MP Philip Lawrence if he saw “any evidence of terrorist activity in the funding of these illegal protests and blockades.”

Beaudoin replied, “I have not.”

In his question to Beaudoin, Lawrence also noted that the Financial Transactions and Reports Analysis Centre of Canada (FINTRAC) had earlier told the committee they had no evidence of questionable Freedom Convoy funding linked to any sort of terrorist activity.

The government of Prime Minister Justin Trudeau had made claims that the Freedom Convoy protesters were funded by foreign entities with ties to terrorist-linked financing. This reasoning was used as justification for Trudeau to enact the Emergencies Act (EA) against the Freedom Convoy.

The Freedom Convoy for three weeks in late January/early February protested in the nation’s capital of Ottawa, demanding an end to all COVID mandates, before being forced out by police armed with extraordinary powers given to them by the EA.

In reality, the vast majority of donations made to both GoFundMe and then later to GiveSendGo came from Canadian donors.

Canadian mainstream media, backed with government funding, was caught spreading fake news stories about the Freedom Convoy.

Canada’s state-funded broadcaster CBC had to retract a story that falsely claimed most support for the Freedom Convoy came from foreigners.

The CBC had also earlier retracted a story run in January that falsely claimed Russia was somehow behind the Freedom Convoy.

A Manitoba judge ruled that CBC reports defamed an investment adviser and he was awarded one of the largest settlements in Canadian history.

State-run Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC) was ordered to pay nearly $2 million in costs and damages in a defamation case for failing to report in a “fair” manner, a judge has ruled.

According to Blacklock’s Reporter, Justice Herbert Rempel of the Manitoba Court of Queen’s Bench ordered the CBC to pay $295,017 in additional costs (legal fees) along with $1,659,403 in damages that were awarded in December 2021.

“The CBC took very strong positions during the course of the trial that were not supported by the facts as I found them,” Rempel wrote.

The combined damage awards are some of the largest payouts in Canadian history.

Last December, Rempel said the CBC had to pay investment adviser Kenneth Wayne Muzik nearly $1.7 million after finding the network had defamed him in 2012 with various reports.

The CBC had run a report with the headline “Is Your Money Safe?” that included a photo of Muzik.

Rempel concluded that a CBC TV and online report about Muzik adversely affected his personal life and his ability to earn a proper income.

Regarding the CBC’s story about Muzik, Rempel wrote that the “CBC had an obligation to report the facts in a fair, balanced and responsible manner,” adding “It failed.”

According to the court, the negative coverage of Muzik had misled viewers regarding him.

In December, Rempel wrote that the CBC has “considerable resources and a wide audience as a national broadcaster,” and that its large “footprint” online “will be something that lives on forever even if the CBC removes the news stories from its website.”

“Anyone with a web browser will be able to find or stumble across the defamatory expression, and in that sense, Mr. Muzik will never be able to escape the reach of the defamatory expression,” Rempel wrote. Continue…

The directive on how to apply the federal government’s invocation of the Emergencies Act after it ordered financial institutions to freeze Freedom Convoy supporters’ accounts was ill-defined and left credit unions “scrambling,” a Commons committee heard on March 17.

On a few occasions, customers also withdrew millions to avoid the punitive measure.

Martha Durdin, president and CEO of the Canadian Credit Union Association (CCUA), testified before the Standing Committee on Finance as part of its inquiry into the use of the Emergencies Act that suppressed the Freedom Convoy protest movement.

“We were scrambling when the act was announced to find out if we were part of it, if it applied to credit unions, and it took us a little while to be able to get that information from the government,” said Durdin, who noted that the “big six” Canadian banks were given a heads up but credit unions were not.

With credit unions representing almost half of the market in some provinces, Durdin said they should be on equal footing with the federally regulated banks, especially in times of crisis.

On March 14, representatives of cryptocurrency platforms also told the committee on that they experienced a similar situation as credit unions in dealing with uncertainty surrounding the financial applications of the act.

With the lack of clarity initially as to who would be targeted, there was “some degree of panic” among supporters who donated small amounts to the convoy and feared their accounts would be frozen, said Durdin.

The Justice Centre for Constitutional Freedoms (JCCF) has filed a petition in the British Columbia Supreme Court seeking to strike down the COVID-19 vaccine mandate for healthcare workers who have lost their jobs.

“The Charter is the highest law in the land, and no order or legislation outranks and outweighs the Charter’s protection of fundamental freedoms such as freedom of religion and freedom of conscience,” said JCCF lawyer Charlene Le Beau in a press release on Thursday.

The lawsuit was filed on behalf of several B.C. healthcare workers represented by the JCCF who have lost their jobs because of the vaccine mandates. It cites violations of the right to life, liberty and security of the person; freedom of religion and conscience and equality rights.

B.C. provincial health officer Dr. Bonnie Henry issued orders in 2021 applying to all healthcare workers and staff who work for the B.C. Health Authorities, care facilities and other facilities across the provinces. Multiple arrests have been made at the freedom rally and counter-protest demonstrations in Calgary today, following a court injunction which placed restrictions on protesting in the city.

Earlier in the week, Calgary's city council voted 13-2 in favour of sending a letter to the police commission asking officers to prioritize bystanders and businesses in the downtown core. An injunction forbidding the blocking of traffic on roads and sidewalks, walking on the road and restricting pedestrians accessing amenities was granted. It also placed a ban on using parks in a way that may disrupt others' use, as well as a noise restriction barring the unnecessary use of horns or other noise-making devices.

Calgary police confirmed 'several arrests' were made at Central Memorial Park in a statement posted to Twitter.

Rebel News reporter Syd Fizzard documented the tense situation last week when a group of counter-protesters became engaged with the weekly “United For Freedom” rally. While covering this week's events, Fizzard was handed a notice of the injunction by police.

Despite a request not to gather from police, both groups showed up.

One speaker from the freedom rally side tried to encourage the crowd to adhere to the orders of the injunction, as the demonstration shifted to city hall in an attempt to comply with the rules.

Eventually, officers moved to enforce the court order.

Officers began making arrests at Central Memorial Park after an incident between members of the opposition protests. One officer can be seen aggressively shoving two counter-protesters to the ground when charging onto the scene.

Police then began pushing the protesters out of the park and onto the sidewalk.

Just before 6 p.m., Calgary police announced the enforcement had come to an end at Central Memorial Park.

Sonya Savage, the energy minister for Alberta, made the comments in an interview with Lisa Fletcher of WJLA-TV.

“What did you think when President Biden called on OPEC and other oil drilling nations like Saudi?” asked Fletcher.

“I thought ‘what?’ ‘We’re right next door. We’re here!’” Savage responded.

“It’s extremely frustrating when we see the United States administration reaching out to Saudi Arabia to ask for more oil production, to ask OPEC for more oil production, to look at Iran, to look at Venezuela when we’re right next door here in Alberta,” she explained. “They should be looking at us as the solution to energy security, not around, not Venezuela.”

This is a good question from the Canadian official. However, Americans want to know why Biden is buying oil from our enemies when we have more than enough oil from home. In 2020 thanks to President Trump’s policies, the US was energy for the first time in decades. Biden changed all that.

Whoever is running the White House is not for America. This person or group is against America as can be seen in every action they take.

Pharmaceutical giant Gilead spent $259 million bribing doctors and hospitals to push deadly drugs on patients

Between 2013 and 2019, American pharmaceutical corporation Gilead spent at least $259 million bribing doctors and hospitals to promote the company’s drugs, many of which cause serious side effects and death.

According to reports, $178 million went directly into doctors’ pockets while another $81 million was funneled into hospitals across the United States that were encouraged to push Gilead products on patients.

In 2019 alone, the data shows, Gilead paid off as many as 21,833 physicians to prescribe the company’s drugs to their patients.

Gilead also launched a $3.3 billion hepatitis C elimination project in the state of Georgia that has reportedly killed at least 249 enrolled patients, according to leaked documents obtained by Arms Watch.

The cause of death of some of the patients was reported as “unknown” in confidential Gilead reports. Other patients became so seriously ill taking whatever Gilead was giving them as “treatment” that they had to withdraw – and some of the folks who withdrew later died.

Gilead has been pushing its hepatitis C drug “Harvoni” not just in the U.S. but also in Canada and Portugal. In all of these countries, patients are dying from the drug, according to data obtained from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

“Despite the severe side effects from these Gilead hepatitis C antivirals the pharmaceutical company has listed none of them so that patients can make their informed decision,” Arms Watch reports.

“Instead, Gilead has paid kickbacks to doctors to prescribe these drugs without patients being informed about the possible risks.” Continue…

North American Rig Count Drops Again

The number of oil rigs operating in North America fell this week, the second decline over the past three weeks amid elevated oil prices.

The number of oil rigs fell from 869 to 839 due to a decline in Canadian oil rigs from 207 to 176, according to oil services giant Baker Hughes.

U.S. oil rigs were unchanged at 663 and Gulf of Mexico rigs climbed by one to 12.

The price of West Texas Intermediate crude contracts rose nearly 1.4 percent to close on Friday at $104.43. The U.S. average for a gallon of gasoline was $4.274, a penny less than the day before and nearly six cents less than a week ago.

Oil producers say it will take several months to increase production. Many are wary of increasing production too quickly, fearing both a return of the oversupplied conditions that inflicted severe financial losses in the previous decade and Democratic initiatives aimed at curtailing or halting fossil fuel development and destroying demand in the name of fighting climate change.

The Biden administration has been falsely claiming that it has not discouraged oil production in recent days, highlighting Democrat fears that the consequences of their climate change agenda is politically unpopular. In good news for the oil sector, controversial Fed nominee Sarah Bloom Raskin withdrew herself from consideration after Sen. Joe Manchin (D-WV) announced that he could not vote for her due to her advocacy of using the central bank’s regulatory powers to discourage fossil fuel production.

More than 230 peace activists in Canada and the United States came together on March 14 for a Zoom webinar on the Ukraine crisis. In addition, the Facebook live stream had 184 views with many more expected with the replay. Organized by the Hamilton Coalition to Stop the War (Canada), the exchange was co-sponsored by United National Anti-War Coalition (US), Fire This Time Movement for Social Justice (Canada), Mobilization Against War and Occupation (Canada), Orinoco Tribune (Venezuela), the International Action Center (US) the International Manifesto Group (Canada) and the Regina Peace Council (Canada). The five panelists were in agreement that the mainstream media were engaging in hysterical demonization of Russia, confusing the people concerning the causes of the conflict. Danny Haiphong (US), a contributor to Black Agenda Report in the USA and co-editor of Friends of Socialist China, stressed that Russia is not our enemy, and that it is important to listen to the Russian perspective in seeking to understand the conflict. From the Russian perspective, one sees the historic aggressive opposition of Western imperialism to the Russian Revolution and the Soviet Union; and the expansion of NATO, following the fall of the Soviet Union, to the east and to the Russian border. Haiphong noted that Russia had persistently made clear the unacceptability of the incorporation of Ukraine into NATO and the violence, since 2014, against the Russian population in the Donbass region. NATO, he maintained, is the source of endless imperialist wars, and NATO must be eliminated.

Arnold August, a Montreal-based author, journalist, a columnist for Trabajadores (Cuba), a Contributing Editor for The Canada Files, and member of the International Manifesto Group, observed that we all hope that the negotiations between Russia and Ukraine will come to fruition, but the governments of Canada and the United States are sabotaging the negotiations, ignoring those European voices saying that it was a mistake to promise NATO to Ukraine. Data Scientist Files Internal Appeal of Bank of Canada’s Mandatory Vaccination Policy

Dr. Joseph Hickey, a data scientist at the Bank of Canada (Canada’s central bank) was placed on unpaid leave without benefits by his employer in November 2021, for declining to receive injections of a COVID-19 vaccine [See also: OCLA blog post, media article 1, media article 2].

On March 16, 2022, Dr. Hickey submitted an internal appeal of the Bank’s decision. His 766-page submission describes and cites the scientific evidence that demonstrates there are many medical reasons for declining vaccination, including that:

There was no emergency that caused large amounts of deaths in Canada in 2020-2021 that would justify vaccinating the entire population;

There is no reliable evidence that the COVID-19 vaccine products provide any health benefit;

Vaccine products injected via intramuscular routes are in-effect physiologically incapable of preventing infection and transmission of respiratory illnesses;

There is autopsy, surveillance, and statistical evidence of grave dangers of COVID-19 vaccine products;

There are more than 1000 peer-reviewed articles providing evidence of harm from COVID-19 vaccine products;

There is a significantly increased risk of dangerous heart inflammation following injection with a COVID-19 vaccine product, especially for younger males, and this danger is heightened for those who engage in strenuous physical activity;

Natural immunity provides robust and sufficient protection against respiratory illnesses; and

It is a fundamental principle of medicine that individual assessment of risk is a personal and confidential choice and the decision to receive or not receive a medical intervention must be made with free and informed consent.
