Biden to Sign Executive Order to Regulate Cryptocurrency after Assault on Dollar

Joe Biden is expected to sign an executive order on regulating cryptocurrency this week according to a report by Bloomberg based on anonymous sources.

According to the report, “The order will direct federal agencies to examine potential regulatory changes, as well as the national security and economic impact of digital assets.”

The executive order will reportedly help coordinate the role of agencies such as the Securities and Exchange Commission and Commodity Futures Trading Commission on cryptocurrency. Industry actors have long complained that guidance from the SEC and other agencies has been unhelpful as they seek to be compliant with U.S. law.

The order has been around the proverbial corner for some time. Bloomberg initially projected back in January that it might get signed in February, while Yahoo Finance reported in mid-February that President Biden was “expected to issue an executive order next week.” That clearly didn’t happen.

Russia’s war on Ukraine has made the issue more pressing, as sanctions, central banking and cryptocurrency financing have been in the public consciousness. Instead of using military force, the United States and its allies have been fighting Russia with what the Financial Times has termed “financial warfare.”

Peter Doocy Calls Out Psaki For Blaming Record High Gas Prices on Vladimir Putin

White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki on Monday blamed Vladimir Putin for record high gas prices.

The national average for gas just topped $4 a gallon in the US with places like California paying nearly $6.

A White House reporter read to Psaki some comments from people his network met at a gas station Monday morning.

“One woman said, ‘I just never imagined to see the cost of gas to be this high,’ another said, ‘it’s a huge stressor to my financial situation’…what is the White House, what is the president’s message to Americans who are going to the gas station today and seeing prices so high?” a reporter asked Psaki.

Psaki responded by blaming Vladimir Putin.

German Rejects Calls to Ban Russian Oil, Supports Seeking Alternative Energy Supplies

German Chancellor Olaf Scholz rejected calls to ban Russian oil and gas, saying energy imports from Russia are “essential” for Germany.

“At the moment, Europe’s supply of energy for heat generation, mobility, power supply, and industry cannot be secured in any other way. It is therefore of essential importance for the provision of public services and the daily lives of our citizens,” he said in a statement.

“That is why it is a conscious decision on our part to continue the activities of business enterprises in the area of energy supply with Russia,” he added.

Europe has intentionally avoided sanctioning energy supplies from Russia, he said.

However, he showed support for finding alternative sources of energy supplies in the long term and said Germany and other European countries have been working on finding alternatives to Russian energy imports.

“This cannot be done overnight,” he stressed.

European Union (EU) leaders are expected to make an announcement about phasing out its dependency on imports of Russian gas, oil, and coal.

The leaders will announce it at a meeting in Versailles which is scheduled on Thursday and Friday.

“We agreed to phase out our dependency on Russian gas, oil, and coal imports,” the leaders would say based on a draft statement of the leaders seen by Reuters.

The task will be tough, however, because the EU buys from Russia 45 percent of its imported gas, around a third of its oil, and nearly half of its coal. This makes the bloc vulnerable should Russia decide to retaliate for EU policies by curbing exports.
