Biden administration appeals to Supreme Court to stop unvaccinated Navy SEAL deployments

 

The original court filing included 26 Navy SEALs who were challenging the vaccine mandate on religious grounds.

 

The Department of Defense on Monday asked the Supreme Court to allow the Pentagon to stop the deployment of unvaccinated Navy SEALs after a lower court ruled that the government did not have a right to do so.

 

The request comes after a ruling in January from a Texas judge who determined that the Pentagon could not refuse to deploy SEALs who do not comply with the department's COVID-19 vaccine mandate. The next month the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals decided to not block the Texas judge's order.

 

In the 42-page filing, Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin argued that by not receiving the vaccine, SEALs were put at a higher risk of needing "medical evacuation" and it could "impair the ability to safely and effectively work."

 

The department also noted that from 2015 to 2021, the Navy recieved 83 religious exemption requests for vaccines. Since the COVID-19 vaccination, the Navy has received more than 4,000 religious exemption requests.

 

While the SEALs argued that the vaccine requirement infringed upon their First Amendment rights, the Defense Department argued that there is no "legitimate public interest in denying" the government's request.

 

The lower court's ruling " usurps the Navy’s authority to decide which servicemembers should be deployed to execute some of the military’s most sensitive and dangerous missions," the government argued.

 

The original court filing named President Joe Biden, and included 26 Navy SEALs who were challenging the vaccine mandate on religious grounds.

 

Judge Reed O'Connor, a Bush Appointee, granted the unvaccinated service members' request to still be deployed. He said that their "loss of religious liberties outweighs any forthcoming harm to the Navy."

 

He noted that Navy service members testified that they had faced retaliation because they sought religious exemptions from vaccination, including one who claimed to have been denied treatment for a traumatic brain injury due to vaccination status.

 

Less than an hour after receiving the Defense Department's filing, the Supreme Court requested the challengers to file a response within the week

US & Canada Move To Strip Title From Russia's Top IMF Representative

 

While the US and Europe have frozen (but not confiscated) hundreds of billions of foreign reserves belonging to Russia's Central Bank, a push to also strip Russia of $17 billion in SDRs has apparently fizzled.

 

So instead, the IMF has decided to remove Russia's representative to the IMF from his largely ceremonial role, "honorary" dean of the IMF's executive board. The move was first proposed by Canada, and was immediately backed by the US: Here's more from FT:

 

Canada, the US and the UK want Aleksei Mozhin, Russia’s representative at the IMF, to relinquish or be stripped of his title as honorary head of the executive board of the multilateral lender following the invasion of Ukraine. Canada first proposed that Mozhin give up the title of dean of the IMF board during a meeting on February 25, a day after Russia unleashed its attack, according to people familiar with the matter.

 

The US backed the effort during the same meeting and the UK is also supportive of his removal from the position, the people added. Mozhin has been dean of the executive board since 2015, a largely honorary title conferred to the longest serving member which carries no official responsibilities or authority.

 

Kristalina Georgieva, the managing director of the IMF, chairs the board and is responsible for calling meetings, setting the agenda and facilitating the discussion.

 

Typically, the dean of the board is a title bestowed on its longest-serving member (which is, in this case, Mozhin). Their only real responsibility is that they step in to speak for the board if there's ever an issue with the executive director (which actually happened last year when Kristalina Georgieva, the managing director of the IMF, was accused of manipulating economic data on China's behalf).

 

As one former IMF official acknowledged to the FT, the dean role is "kind of irrelevant".

 

"On an operational basis [the role] is kind of irrelevant," said a former senior IMF official. "But these are unusual times and certainly the signalling aspect of not having a Russian be in that slot would be meaningful."

Over 30,000 Notarized Lawful Affidavits Delivered to Washington State Officials – Governor Inslee’s Office and other Officials Refuse Service

 

On Friday, March 4, 2022, the Washington State Tea Room, a monumental state-wide movement, attempted to serve Washington state officials with over 30,000 lawful affidavits from the Citizens of Washington demanding an end to all mandates and requesting a forensic audit of the 2020 election.

 

Speaking to the Gateway Pundit, the founder of WA State Tea Room, Brianna Mattes said, “this recent serving is the first of two in the first phase of our mission.”

According to their news release, Inslee’s office refused to accept service or sign for the documents as well as the AG Fergusons office, Jinkins’ office, Murray, and Cantwell’s offices. Only Lt. Governor Heck’s office signed for the documents and took service.

Olympia, WA (March 4th, 2022) process servers and members of the Washington State Tea Room attempted to serve Governor Jay Inslee, Lt. Governor Denny Heck, Speaker of the WA House of Representatives Laurie Jinkins, Attorney General Bob Ferguson, and Senators Patty Murray and Maria Cantwell with over 30,000 lawful affidavits from the Citizens of Washington demanding an end to all mandates and requesting a forensic audit of the 2020 election.

 

Days prior to the process servers made the necessary arrangements to request service and were informed by each state-level elected public servants’ office that their offices would be open and would take service of the documents. None of the offices for either Cantwell or Murray would answer their phones or return calls.

 

Inslee’s office refused to accept service or sign for the documents and sent the servers to AG Ferguson’s office. AG Ferguson’s Office refused to sign for the documents and instructed the servers to leave the boxes of documents for the Governor and the AG in the foyer. Murray and Cantwell’s offices refused to open the doors. Jinkins’ office refused to sign for the documents and instructed the boxes be taken to the mail center to be scanned for bombs and stated the boxes would be delivered by the mail center after they were scanned. Lt. Governor Heck’s office signed for the documents and took service.

 

“They didn’t even respect us enough to come out and speak to us directly,” Brianna Mattes stated after being met by clerks and security guards at the offices which refused service. Each attempt to serve was recorded live.

Supreme Court Allows Democrat-Gerrymandered Election Maps in North Carolina and Pennsylvania to Stand

 

The US Supreme Court on Monday night denied requests from Republicans challenging congressional maps in North Carolina and Pennsylvania that had been approved by politicized Democrat-controlled courts.

 

Justice Samuel Alito was joined by Justices Neil Gorsuch and Clarence Thomas in dissent.

 

The Daily Press reported:

 

In a victory for Democrats, the Supreme Court has turned away efforts from Republicans in North Carolina and Pennsylvania to block state court-ordered congressional districting plans.

 

In separate orders late Monday, the justices are allowing maps selected by each state’s Supreme Court to be in effect for the 2022 elections. Those maps are more favorable to Democrats than the ones drawn by the states’ legislatures.

 

In North Carolina, the map most likely will give Democrats an additional House seat in 2023.

 

The Pennsylvania map also probably will lead to the election of more Democrats, the Republicans say, as the two parties battle for control of the U.S. House of Representatives in the midterm elections in November.

 

The justices provided no explanation for their actions, as is common in emergency applications on what is known as the “shadow docket.”

 

While the high court did not stop the state court-ordered plans from being used in this year’s elections, four conservative justices indicated they want it to confront the issue that could dramatically limit the power of state courts over federal elections in the future. The Republicans argued that state courts lack the authority to second-guess legislatures’ decisions about the conduct of elections for Congress and the presidency.
