Hunter Biden’s firm Rosemont Seneca provided capital for the firms behind the creation of Biolabs in Ukraine.

We heard on Tuesday from the US State Department that there were US Biolabs in Ukraine. Then on Wednesday the Biden regime backtracked and insisted there were no US-funded Biolabs in Ukraine.

Why the sudden confusing messaging from the Biden gang? Especially when there are documents that prove the US was funding several of the Biolabs they set up in Ukraine to study potentially dangerous pathogens.

It may be because Hunter Biden’s firm Rosemont Seneca was funding the firms involved in the building of these labs in Ukraine and they felt this was not something they wanted the American people to know.

InfoWars put together an excellent article with connections between Hunter Biden and the firm Metabiota, which was involved in the creation of Biolabs in Ukraine.

The Gateway Pundit identified through the Wayback Machine that Rosemont Seneca provided capital (invested in) Metabiota as noted on the firm’s website back in 2014.

It is listed as “Our Team’s Investments” on the Rosemont Senaca webpage.

We also located a number of documents from the Wayback Machine (meaning they have been since deleted off the Internet) that show the Department of Defense investing in the creation of Biolabs in Ukraine with the help of firm Black & Veatch.

Goldman Becomes First Major Bank To Abandon Russia

Earlier this month, Goldman Sachs began moving some of its Moscow-based employees to Dubai, following requests by some to be relocated; but now, the bank has become the first Wall Street firm to announce it plans to close all of its operations in Russia.

Bloomberg reports that the company said Thursday in an emailed statement:

“Goldman Sachs is winding down its business in Russia in compliance with regulatory and licensing requirements. We are focused on supporting our clients across the globe in managing or closing out pre-existing obligations in the market and ensuring the well-being of our people.”

The closing of the office is more symbolic than anything else as Bloomberg notes that at the end of 2021, the firm’s total credit exposure to Russia was $650 million, most of which was tied to non-sovereign counterparties or borrowers.

Additionally, Goldman will continue to make markets in Russian corporate debt but will not take positions…

“In our role as market-maker standing between buyers and sellers, we are helping our clients reduce their risk in Russian securities which trade in the secondary market, not seeking to speculate.”

UK Disrupts Sale Of Chelsea FC With New Sanctions On Abramovich, Others

Update (1200ET): At least it looks like Abramovich's two yachts, which have a combined worth of more than $1 billion, have evaded British sanctions by setting sail a week ago.

The two superyachts, which together span almost 1,000 feet (or 305 meters) and cost well over $1 billion, are now at sea following the recent blocking of vessels owned by Russian tycoons Alisher Usmanov, Igor Sechin, Alexey Mordashov and Gennady Timchenko.

All of them were sanctioned by the European Union and had ships docked at various ports within the bloc.

Abramovich’s 533-foot Eclipse left St. Martin in the Caribbean a week ago, beginning a transatlantic passage, and was north of the Canary Islands as of 11:23ET. His newer superyacht, the 458-foot Solaris, departed Barcelona on Tuesday after spending most of the winter in the Spanish port and is off the southern coast of Sicily, heading east. Neither the Solaris nor the Eclipse list a destination in their data, according to a Bloomberg report.

Following a handful of asset seizures in Italy, Switzerland, and France that prompted some wealthy Russian businessmen to rapidly move yachts, jets, and other billionaire flotsam, the UK is cracking down and seizing assets belonging to more than half-a-dozen oligarchs.

UK authorities are sanctioning all assets of Chelsea Football Club owner Roman Abramovich as well as six other Russians. They will all face the full asset freeze and travel ban which could leave them effectively trapped where they are.

The British said the total value of the sanctions is approximately £15 billion ($19.74 billion).

United Airlines to Allow Unvaccinated Employees Back to Work on March 28

United Airlines announced on Thursday they will allow unvaccinated employees back to work on March 28 for some reason.

The move will allow hundreds of employees back to work who requested religious or medical exemptions from the experimental COVID vaccine.

United Airlines Holdings Inc. will allow workers who have not been vaccinated against COVID-19 for religious or medical reasons to return at the end of this month, The Wall Street Journal reported Wednesday, citing people familiar with the matter.

The move permits staffers with exemptions from the carrier’s vaccination requirement for its U.S. employees to return from unpaid leave or from the non-customer-facing roles they were allowed to apply for as an alternative to their regular jobs, the report said.

United Airlines declined to comment on the matter when contacted by Reuters.

House Passes $1.5 Trillion Spending Bill With $13.6 Billion For Ukraine

The U.S. House of Representatives voted on Wednesday to pass a $1.5 trillion omnibus spending bill that includes $13.6 billion in aid for Ukraine and European allies, and would fund the federal government through to Sept. 30.

Hours earlier, Democratic lawmakers scrapped the bill’s initial $15.6 billion COVID-19 aid provision, marking a major setback for the Biden administration who had pushed for weeks to have the additional funds approved.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) called the decision to abandon the provision “heartbreaking.” Republicans had demanded cuts to state aid to fund the new initiative.

“We’ve got a war going on in Ukraine,” Pelosi told reporters, explaining the urgency Democrats felt in making concessions in bargaining with Republicans. “We have important work that we’re doing here.” She said with her party in the 50-50 Senate needing at least 10 GOP votes to pass legislation, Democrats “are going to have to know there has to be compromise.”

The overall bill was approved by the House in two separate votes. The measure’s security programs were overwhelmingly approved by 361-69, the rest by 260-171, with most Republicans opposed.

The Ukraine aid included $6.5 billion for the U.S. costs of sending troops and weapons to Eastern Europe and equipping allied forces there in response to Russian President Vladimir Putin’s invasion, which he launched on Feb. 24.

A further $6.8 billion would go toward care for refugees and provide economic aid to allies, and more to help federal agencies enforce economic sanctions against Russia and protect against cyber threats at home.

The figure is higher than the sum initially requested by the Biden administration, $6.5 billion, and the $10 billion figure in the White House’s formal request to Congress.

On Tuesday, Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) said Congress’s aid package for Ukraine and its Eastern European allies stood at $14 billion. He criticized the speed at which the aid package has moved along.

Rep. Tom Cole (R-Okla.), the GOP leader on the House Rules Committee, called the $1.5 trillion bill a “reasonable compromise” and said its extra defense spending was “clearly necessary in the wake of Vladimir Putin’s unprovoked aggression against Ukraine.”

Some $730 billion has also been allocated for military spending under the Defense Department, and a further $125 billion would go to the Department of Veterans Affairs.

The bill would increase spending for child nutrition and child care, local law enforcement, improving broadband in rural areas, and education aid for disabled students and historically black colleges and universities.

The spending bill still needs to be passed by the Senate. Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) has said he hopes to pass the legislation before Friday to avert a government shutdown.

Ukraine Government Plans to Move Sensitive Data and Servers Overseas if Russia Further Advances into the Country

The Ukrainian government is considering a possible transfer of its sensitive data and servers abroad if the Russian army further advances into the country, Reuters reported on Wednesday.

This comes after the Director of the Information and Press Department of Russian Federation, Maria Vladimirovna Zakharova, claimed they had seized biological material found in Ukraine bio labs. Both the US and Ukraine denied these allegations.

White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki said on Wednesday that reports of biolabs in Ukraine were fake news propagated by Russia.

Due to grave threats from Russian forces, Victor Zhora, the deputy chief of Ukraine’s State Service of Special Communications and Information Protection, is planning a contingency plan to move its critical information and servers out of Ukraine.

Zhora shared that some countries were already offering to host data without mentioning the names of the countries.

The Ukrainian government is preparing for the potential need to move its data and servers abroad if Russia’s invading forces push deeper into the country, a senior cyber-security official told Reuters on Wednesday.

Mr Victor Zhora, the deputy chief of Ukraine’s State Service of Special Communications and Information Protection, emphasised his department was planning for a contingency, but that it is being considered at all suggests Ukrainians want to be ready for any Russian threat to seize sensitive government documents.

“We are preparing the ground,” Mr Zhora said.

Plan A was to protect information technology infrastructure within Ukraine. Removing it to another country would only be a “plan B or C”.

The move could only happen after regulatory changes approved by Ukrainian lawmakers, Mr Zhora said.

Government officials have already been shipping equipment and backups to more secure areas of Ukraine beyond the reach of Russian forces, which invaded on Feb 24 and are laying siege to several cities.

Last month, Mr Zhora told the journal Politico that there were plans to move critical data out of the capital Kyiv should it be threatened, but preparations for potentially moving data abroad go a step further.

Ukraine has received offers to host data from a variety of countries, Mr Zhora said, declining to identify them. For reasons of proximity, “a European location will be preferred”, he said.

“There are a lot options,” he said. “All the proposals are highly welcome and worth considering.”

Mr Zhora gave few details of how such a move might be executed, but he said past efforts to keep government data out of Russia’s grasp involved either the physical transport of servers and removable storage devices or the digital migration of data from one service or server to another.

Former Wisconsin Supreme Court Justice Gableman Signs Contract to Extend His 2020 Election Investigation Until April 30

The Wisconsin investigation into the 2020 Election led by former Supreme Court Justice Michael Gableman will continue till April. A new contract has been signed allowing Gableman to continue his work.

Wisconsin’s Republican Assembly speaker signed a new contract Tuesday with Michael Gableman, the former state Supreme Court justice he hired to investigate the 2020 election, extending his review through the end of April.

The extension comes after the original contract expired on Dec. 31 and a week after Gableman delivered a widely panned report that called for the Legislature to take a serious look at decertifying President Joe Biden’s win in the battleground state.

It also comes the same day that a judge ordered the release of 700 pages of documents under the state’s open records law, which he said do not support conclusions made in Gableman’s latest report or that there has been much of an investigation at all.

Assembly Speaker Robin Vos, who hired Gableman and extended his contract, told The Associated Press that the emphasis going forward is on resolving the pending litigation and supplementing the report that was submitted last week.

“It’s not necessarily looking for additional things to investigate,” Vos said. “We’re just trying to complete the investigation on many of the issues that were raised in the report.”

Former President Donald Trump issued a statement praising Vos for “standing by” Gableman.

Under the terms of the new contract, Gableman will be able to continue to fight a series of lawsuits attempting to block his subpoenas of mayors and election officials at both the state and local level. Once the lawsuits are over, the contract calls for Gableman to consult with Vos about whether more investigation is warranted or the probe should end.

It’s ridiculous that this audit work in Wisconsin has taken so long. It took months before Gableman was hired to the task and then once he got going, he’s been stalled by every means possible. Some of his subpoenas have been totally ignored by various cities under investigation.

Biden Quietly Forgives Student Loans for Government Workers But Millions of Others Remain Crushed by Student Debt

Throughout Joe Biden’s 2020 presidential campaign, he pledged to tackle America’s student debt crisis by reducing the cost of attending college and canceling up to $10,000 of debt per borrower.

However, despite these failures, one group has benefited substantially from the Biden administration’s student loan policies: nonprofit workers, the largest group of which is those employed by federal, state, or local governments.

While tens of millions of other Americans remain burdened with massive student loan debts, government and other nonprofit workers have enjoyed substantial amounts of student debt forgiveness, and at a rate we’ve never seen before, thanks to a combination of policies most voters know very little about.

Under the Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF) program, which was created by the College Cost Reduction and Access Act of 2007, federal student loan borrowers who work full-time for a nonprofit organization, including a government, can have their entire student debt balance discharged after making 120 qualifying monthly payments, a requirement that takes at least 10 years to complete, but could take longer.

Prior to receiving forgiveness, many of these borrowers enroll in a federal income-based repayment plan, which ties student loan payment amounts to income, allowing borrowers to “pay” as little as $0 per month without penalties, and as much as 15% of a borrower’s monthly discretionary income.

Following the outbreak of the novel coronavirus in early 2020, President Trump and Congress agreed to temporarily pause federal student loan payments. But rather than require PSLF borrowers to continue making payments in order to make progress toward the 120-payment threshold, Trump and Congress allowed the paused “payments” to count.

Initially, the federal government’s stated goal was to provide several months of payment relief at the height of the pandemic, a time when millions of Americans were losing their jobs due to government-imposed lockdowns. If it had remained temporary, the payment pause would have had a limited impact on PSLF.

However, instead of allowing the “temporary” deadlines to pass, Biden has continued the pause three times since becoming president, the most recent of which came in December 2021, when the White House announced the pause would continue until May 1.

In total, the US has forgiven over $1 billion in student loans for over 471,000 individuals who are mostly government workers.

West has defaulted on its financial obligations to Russia – Finance Minister

Western countries have failed to honor their financial obligations to Russia by imposing economic restrictions, Russia’s Finance Minister Anton Siluanov said on Thursday during a government meeting with President Vladimir Putin.

“The West has defaulted on its financial obligations to Russia, has frozen our gold and foreign exchange reserves,” the official stated, adding that the measures sum up to a full-scale “financial and economic war” against Russia.

According to Siluanov, the US, EU and their allies are using everything within their powers to restrict foreign trade and imports, which not only damages Russia but impacts the entire global trade.

“Western countries are trying to create a shortage of everyday imported goods in our country, they are forcing the closure of successfully operating enterprises with foreign capital,” Siluanov said.

As Gov’t Sends Billions to Ukraine, Millions of US Children are Being Pushed into Horrible Poverty

On Monday, a Kremlin spokesperson told Ukraine that Russia is ready to halt military operations “in a moment” if Kyiv meets a reasonable list of conditions. Peace would be here in moments, the suffering could be over, and the rebuild could begin if both sides make some very minor concessions.

Russian spokesman Dmitry Peskov said Moscow will end the invasion immediately if Ukraine amends its constitution to ensure it stays neutral and doesn’t join NATO, it acknowledges Crimea as Russian territory, and recognizes the separatist republics of Donetsk and Lugbleak ansk as independent states.

“We have also spoken about how they should recognize that Crimea is Russian territory and that they need to recognize that Donetsk and Lugansk are independent states. And that’s it. It will stop in a moment,” said Peskov, according to Reuters.

So far, Ukraine has chosen not to accept these terms. This is a familiar sentiment that retired Colonel Douglas MacGregor says is selfish and puts even more Ukrainian lives at unnecessary risk.

Unfortunately for the people of Ukraine, however, there are far too many interests who want this conflict to continue as there are billions of dollars to be made from it, up to and including billions of American tax dollars. So, against the wishes of many, this war will likely continue.

As TFTP reported last month, a survey by The Associated Press-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research, found just 26% of Americans want the US to play a major roll in the Russian/Ukraine conflict. After two years of being fleeced and having our rights trampled here at home, the idea of shelling out more money to fund a conflict on the other side of the world — is not sitting well with many folks.

You can’t lock people down for two years, destroy their livelihoods, and force them to take a jab to keep their job, only to turn around and tell them they now need to pay for a senseless war in which the US has inserted itself at the behest of the special interests it serves. Yet that is exactly what’s happening — in spite of people not wanting it.

Sure, there is the massive blue checkmark community on Twitter who supports shelling out more taxpayer dollars to fund war, but millions of Americans are struggling too much to even think about the Ukraine.

“They want to send millions of dollars of ours to stop a war that we have nothing to do with,” Edward Eller, a 67-year-old retiree told the AP in an interview. “I’m sorry they’re involved in a mess, but it’s not our problem.”

Since that interview, “millions” has progressed to “billions.”

Last week, the Biden administration asked Congress for an additional $10 billion — on top of the $1.4 billion we’ve already given Ukraine this year — to provide aid to Ukrainian government, largely in the form of weapons. Instead of $10 billion, however, because government is government, that amount has jumped to $13.6 billion and it was agreed upon by House and Senate leaders on Wednesday.

Bolton was fired by President Trump in his first term. Trump blamed Bolton for bad advice and said back in January 2020, “If I listened to him, we would be in World War Six by now.”

He made similar comments during a Washington Post Live event on Friday, saying that Putin was “waiting” for a possible United States withdrawal from NATO and that former Trump would have likely made such a move had he been reelected.

Major payment system suspends operations in Russia, Belarus

Western Union becomes the latest in a string of financials to quit over Ukraine war

International money transfer system Western Union has suspended operations in Russia and Belarus, RIA Novosti reported on Thursday.

Earlier, the US-based payments company unilaterally stopped working with Russia’s Promsvyazbank, an institution that was placed on the sanctions list by Washington.

Western Union is the latest in a string of financials to leave Russia in the wake of the war with Ukraine and ensuing sanctions imposed by the US, the EU, and other nations.

US credit card firms Visa and MasterCard had already restricted operations in Russia, only allowing transactions within the country. PayPal and American Express also suspended operations in the state, with Japanese credit card company JCB Corp. announcing similar plans. Some Russian banks on the sanctions list have also been cut off from the SWIFT international money transfer system.

Austria Suspends Mandatory COVID-19 Vaccine Law for All Adults

The Austrian government has said it won’t immediately enforce a COVID-19 vaccine mandate that would have forced most adults to receive a vaccine by mid-March or face fines.

The mandate, for people over the age of 18, was signed into law in February, coming about two months after it was announced in Austria’s Parliament. Austria was the first country in the European Union to enact such a measure.

Starting this month, Austrian police would have been able to check people’s vaccination status during traffic stops and on the street. Those who didn’t have proof of vaccination would have been asked in writing to provide proof or face fines of up to 600 euros ($653). For subsequent violations, the fines could reach 3,600 euros ($3,974).

Austria’s minister for the EU, Karoline Edtstadler, announced on March 9 that the law wouldn’t go into effect and said it represents an “encroachment of fundamental rights” that can no longer be justified.

“After consultations with the health minister, we have decided that we will, of course, follow what the [expert] commission has said,” Edtstadler told reporters, following a government cabinet meeting. “We see no need to actually implement this compulsory vaccination due to the [Omicron] variant that we are predominantly experiencing here.”

A commission of experts is scheduled to re-evaluate the situation and the law in mid-June, she said.

Germany Ignores Looming Energy Crisis, to Close All Nuclear Power Plants

Germany will close all of its nuclear power plants by the end of this year, despite the nation’s already-crippling addiction to Russian natural gas.

While there had been claims Germany would ‘u-turn’ on its hardline anti-nuclear policy in light of the intensification of the Ukraine conflict, officials have now confirmed on Tuesday that it will keep to schedule and shutter all remaining atom-splitting power plants by the end of this year.

This decision comes despite the country wrestling with its crippling addiction to Russian gas, a habit that both Germany and the broader European Union reportedly aim to kick.

However, according to a Reuters report, politicians in the central-European country do not think it is worth keeping its nuclear plants open in the face of an impending energy crunch, and intend to rely on other forms of energy generation being able to wean the country off of Russian supply.

“As a result of weighing up the benefits and risks, an extension of the operating lives of the three remaining nuclear power plants is not recommended, also in view of the current gas crisis,” said the two of Germany’s ministries responsible for examining the situation — both of which are headed up by the traditionally anti-nuclear green party.

Instead, Germany’s green party Economy Minister, Robert Habeck, has backed the use of renewable sources, as well as Liquified Natural Gas (LNG), as the best way for Germany to ease its reliance on hydrocarbons bought from Moscow.

“We totally agree that the construction of electricity networks, LNG terminals and renewable energy must be done at ‘Tesla speed’,” Habeck said, referencing the quick construction of Elon Musk’s car factory in the country.

The IBT also noted that the West has also barred Russian banks from participating in the SWIFT global payments system, which connects roughly 11,000 banks and financial institutions in more than 200 countries. Russia’s loss of access to the system normally would have had a major impact on foreign trade and international cash transfers, but here again, the move is liable to push Russia into China’s equivalent, the Cross-Border Interbank Payments System, or CIPS.

Guatemalan lawmakers have increased prison sentences for women who have abortions, bucking a recent trend in Latin America toward expanding access to the procedures.

Abortions are legal only when the life of the mother is at risk.

Lawmakers backing the legislation said the law was necessary because “minority groups in society propose ways of thinking and practices that are incongruous with Christian morality.”

Lawmaker Vicenta Gerónimo, who voted against the legislation, said it violates human rights, especially of women in rural areas where there isn’t a government health infrastructure.

The legislation passed with 101 votes in favor and 8 against. Fifty-one lawmakers were not present.

Chabad members Mendel (Minka) Borodkin, 27, originally from Crown Heights, Brooklyn, and his Ukraine-born wife Rivka, 26, both work for a Beis Hannah, a Jewish girls’ seminary in Dnipro (formerly Dnipropetrovsk) in southeastern Ukraine.

Dnipro bridges east and west Ukraine and is just an hour and a half’s drive from Zaporizhia, whose nuclear plant was shelled by Russian forces earlier this month.

The seminary, which prepares 14- to 20-year-old girls for careers in teaching and psychology, had 15 boarders. At the beginning of March, eight went home (although one since fled to Georgia, and another is trying to get out now).

Six of the girls, plus a 25-year-old dormitory counselor, agreed to accompany the Borodkins to Israel for the duration of the war, and the parents of one of the girls asked to join them.

"We will make sure that we never find ourselves in a similar situation again and that no ‘Uncle Sam’ or anyone else can make decisions that are aimed at destroying our economy," the top diplomat vowed

Russia will be able to solve its economic problems in such a way that it will not depend on Western governments and companies ever again, Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said following talks with his Ukrainian and Turkish counterparts Dmitry Kuleba and Mevlut Cavusoglu.

"We will solve this problem in such a way that never again will we depend on [our] Western partners, be it governments or companies that are not guided by the interests of their business, but have become a tool of political aggression, Russia is now experiencing from the West," he said.

"We will make sure that we never find ourselves in a similar situation again and that no ‘Uncle Sam’ or anyone else can make decisions that are aimed at destroying our economy," he vowed.

"As for oil and gas: we leave it all to the discretion and conscience of our Western colleagues," he said, adding "We have never used oil and gas as a weapon, although they (Western colleagues - TASS) regularly accuse us of doing so."

In this regard, the minister recalled how more than ten years ago, Ukraine provoked a crisis by getting into the habit of stealing natural gas, which was supplied through its territory via transit from Russia to Europe.

"We regularly shipped transit gas to Europe in full compliance with our obligations regarding volumes and prices, but they siphoned it off," he said.

"Do you think Europe somehow tried to manage them? Not at all: they started to claim that it was Russia, which was weaponizing this gas, although they knew perfectly well what was really going on."

Ukraine as a tool against Russia

"Everything that is happening with regards to Ukraine is measured by a lone standard, how to harm Russia through this country, and how to contain Russia," the top diplomat said.

"This containment began long ago, before it was officially announced," he added.

Lavrov highlighted the fact that in the West they "called Russia every name in the book, imposed sanctions, banned their companies from staying in the country, everyone fled, but at the same time they say that they will buy oil and gas, because otherwise they will freeze from the cold." According to him, such behavior perfectly demonstrated Europe’s so-called values.

The minister also spoke about the threats being echoed in the West to impose an embargo on the purchase of Russian energy resources. "Go ahead! If they stop buying oil and gas, our Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak, who oversees the energy sector, spoke in detail that we will not persuade them to buy our oil and gas," he stressed.

ISIS Confirms Death Of Al-Qurashi, Appoints New Leader

On March 10, ISIS finally confirmed the death of its leader Abu Ibrahim al-Hashimi al-Qurashi and spokesman Abu Hamza al-Qurashi.

The terrorist leader died during a US raid that targeted his hideout in the northwestern Syrian region of Greater Idlib on February 3. Six children and four women were among 13 people who died in the raid on the hideout. A US helicopter was also lost. It remains unclear, however, if Abu Hamzah was killed in the same raid.

In an audio message released by the al-Furqan Foundation for Media Production, ISIS’s new spokesman, Abu Omar al-Muhajir, announced that Abu al-Hassan al-Hashimi al-Qurashi had been appointed as the new “caliph”.

Al-Muahjir said that Abu Ibrahim named Abu al-Hassan as his successor before his death, which suggests that the two men were very close.

As of now, next to nothing is known about Abu al-Hassan. He reportedly comes from a close circle of battle-hardened Iraqi terrorists who emerged in the aftermath of the 2003 US invasion. Abu Ibrahim and ISIS founder Abu Baker al-Baghdadi, who died during a US raid in Greater Idlib on 26 October 2019, were members of the same circle.

Under the rule of Abu Ibrahim ISIS stepped up its operations from western Africa to the Middle East and central Asia in a bid to reestablish its “caliphate”.

The death of Abu Ibrahim was a large blow to ISIS. However, the terrorist group’s command and control structure and its long term plans were not likely affected. The group will continue to be one of the main threats in many regions of the world.

Supreme Court: Torture at CIA Black Site Is ‘State Secret’

In a scathing dissent, Neil Gorsuch accused the government of seeking dismissal of Abu Zubaydah’s petition to avoid “further embarrassment for past misdeeds.”

Abu Zubaydah, whom the CIA once mistakenly alleged was a top Al-Qaeda leader, was waterboarded 80-plus times, subjected to assault in the form of forced rectal exams, and exposed to live burials in coffins for hundreds of hours. Zubaydah sobbed, twitched and hyperventilated. During one waterboarding session, he became completely unresponsive, with bubbles coming out of his mouth. “He became so compliant that he would prepare for waterboarding at the snap of a finger,” Neil Gorsuch wrote in his 30-page dissent in United States v. Zubaydah.

On March 3, in a 6-3 decision, the Supreme Court dismissed Zubaydah’s petition requesting the testimony of psychologists James Mitchell and John Jessen, whom the CIA hired to orchestrate his torture at a secret CIA prison (“CIA black site”) in Poland from December 2002 until September 2003. Zubaydah was transferred to other CIA black sites before being sent to Guantánamo in 2006, where he remains today with no charges against him.

Zubaydah sought information: (1) to confirm that the CIA black site in question was located in Poland; (2) about his torture there; and (3) about the involvement of Polish officials. First the Trump administration — now the Biden administration — claim that confirming the location of the CIA black site in Poland is a “state secret” that would significantly harm U.S. national security interests. Zubaydah needs Mitchell and Jessen’s testimony to document his treatment from December 2002 to 2003 at the CIA black site in Poland for use in the ongoing Polish criminal investigation of Poles complicit in his torture. Those details have not been publicly documented.

Former CIA Director Mike Pompeo wrote in a declaration that although the enhanced interrogation techniques are no longer classified, the location of the CIA black site in question remains a state secret. Pompeo maintained that soliciting information about the involvement of Polish nationals in Zubaydah’s treatment could compromise national security.

But the location of the Polish CIA black site has been publicly acknowledged in several venues. The 683-page report of the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence, published in 2014, detailed the CIA detention and interrogation program, including details about Zubaydah’s torture prior to being sent to the CIA’s black site in Poland. In 2007, the Council of Europe issued a long report that found Zubaydah was held at the Polish CIA black site after his capture in 2002. The former president of Poland told reporters in 2012 that the CIA black site in Poland was established with his knowledge. In 2014, the European Court of Human Rights concluded beyond reasonable doubt that Zubaydah was held in Poland from December 2002 to September 2003.

Moreover, in 2017, the U.S. government allowed Mitchell and Jessen to testify about how they developed the idea of waterboarding, that they asked the CIA to stop using “enhanced interrogation techniques” (aka torture) on Zubaydah, and how the CIA leadership refused. Once again, in 2020, the U.S. government permitted the two psychologists to testify at military commission hearings at Guantánamo about how Zubaydah was waterboarded and kept awake for 120 consecutive hours.
