FBI: Nonprofit spent tens of millions from children hunger program on cars, property

Federal authorities say tens of millions of federal dollars meant for child nutrition funded a fake nonprofit that used the donations to buy numerous vehicles and 14 properties.

Federal authorities say tens of millions of federal dollars meant for child nutrition funded a fake nonprofit called Feeding Our Future (FOF) that instead used the donations to buy numerous vehicles and 14 properties.

“The companies and their owners received tens of millions of dollars in federal funds for use in providing nutritious meals to underprivileged children and adults,” FBI Special Agent Travis Wilmer wrote in an affidavit. “Almost none of this money was used to feed children. Instead, the participants in the scheme misappropriated the money and used it to purchase real estate, cars and other luxury items.”

Court documents say the nonprofit received $307,000 in federal child nutrition program funds in 2018.

In 2020, the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) eased its rules for feeding hungry kids to allow restaurants and other places to distribute food, including multi-day meals consumed off-site, citing COVID and closed in-person schools.

Court documents say FOF reported $42.7 million in meals disbursed in 2020 and, by 2021, boosted that number to $197 million.

"We are driven by a single goal; making participation in the USDA Child and Adult Care Food Program safe and easy for our community partners," Feeding Our Future’s website says. "We ensure programs are easily able to receive funding to purchase nutritious meals and snacks."

Minnesota Department of Education (MDE) reimburses local organizations with federal dollars. In summer 2020, reporting deficiencies and rapid growth in FOF-sponsored sites grabbed MDE’s attention. Once FOF couldn’t explain the drastic increase of meals or multiple paperwork errors, MDE reported the nonprofit to the USDA Office of the Inspector General in October 2020 and tried to stop payments.

A month later, FOF sued MDE tried for not processing more than 50 applications for millions of dollars and won.

By May 2021, authorities were investigating.

On Jan. 20, 2022, more than 200 law enforcement personnel searched more than a dozen Twin Cities locations linked to the probe but no arrests were made. Afterward, MDE moved to terminate the contract and issued a “stop pay” order.

Attorney General Keith Ellison said he’s investigating FOF for alleged violations of state nonprofit law. Ellison filed a petition in Dakota County District Court for a court-supervised dissolution of the group.

The crackdown ensnared Abdi Nur Salah, who was a senior policy aid at the office of Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey before his firing, the Sahan Journal reported.

Court documents say Salah co-purchased a south Minneapolis apartment building with money “traceable to the fraud and money laundering scheme” involving FOF.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office listed 14 properties, including the one Salah allegedly helped purchase that’s connected to the alleged fraud.

FOF Director Aimee Bock has denied any wrongdoing. The group has filed for dissolution after the feds froze all remaining funds. The warrants say FOF employees and multiple business operators enacted shell companies to conceal the stolen funds.

“To date, the conspirators have stolen millions of dollars in federal funds,” the FBI said in January 2022. “The scheme is ongoing.”

In February, Senate GOP members called for the state to audit federal food aid programs and account for billions of COVID spending.

Sen. Roger Chamberlain, R-Lino Lakes, said the alleged crime was “outrageous.”

“It’s simply outrageous that nearly $200 million of money provided to feed children in need was abused in this way,” Chamberlain said in a statement. “With resources precious, it’s imperative government agencies ensure every dollar is going to programs with robust track records so we can know not a single dime is wasted.”

WTF?

California Army National Guard Commander on Ukraine: We Must Stand Ready

The California Army National Guard commander on Sunday sent a memorandum to soldiers serving in the California Army National Guard — which is partnered with Ukrainian forces under the State Partnership Program — asking them to “stand ready.”

The subject of the memorandum, obtained by Breitbart News, and issued by Army Maj. Gen. Laura L. Yeager, was “Letter to the Field — Ukraine.”

“We cannot predict what our role may be at home or abroad, therefore we must stand ready. We ask each of you to self-assess and seize the initiative to improve your personal readiness,” Yeager wrote.

The memorandum said in full:

As we watch the war unfold in our partner nation of Ukraine, our role as defenders of democracy is highlighted and increased in importance. Democracy can coexist with all peaceful nations but the actions of President Putin prove that oppressive states choose not to respect the sovereignty of democratic free countries.

I am proud of our lasting partnership with Ukraine and their valiant fight to protect their freedom and their nation is inspiring. We are working diligently with our state and federal partners to help facilitate getting the Ukrainian military and citizens the equipment and humanitarian assistance they need to continue their defense.

We cannot predict what our role may be at home or abroad, therefore we must stand ready. We ask each of you to self-assess and seize the initiative to improve your personal readiness. I encourage each of you to ensure you are continually working to increase your physical fitness, further your military education and train hard to be ready when needed. Speak to your friends and connect them with a local recruiter if they choose to serve to strengthen the readiness of our formations.

Thank you for your service to California and the nation. Peace and freedom will endure with your continue commitment to service and excellence.

California Military Department Public Affairs Office Director Lt. Col. Brandon Hill confirmed the memo was authentic.

“I can confirm that is a memorandum sent by Maj Gen Yeager to the California Army National Guard component and personnel serving under her command. Her statement illustrates the importance of our motto or ‘Always Ready, Always There’ for National Guard service members. It also highlights our special relationship with the armed forces of Ukraine through the State Partnership Program in the 30 years we have partnered and trained with them,” he said in a statement.

He noted that the California Military Department recently published an e-newsletter on its partnership with Ukrainian forces.

The State Partnership Program pairs states’ National Guard forces with other nations’ military for training.

The program stems from a 1991 U.S. European Command decision to pair up American reservists with former Soviet Bloc nations and is administered by the National Guard Bureau. California National Guard troops have been matched with Ukrainian forces since 1993.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky even visited Moffett Air Field in California last September.

Massachusetts health department admits 'significant overcount' of COVID-19 deaths — and the number could still be much too high

The Massachusetts Department of Health announced this week that it would be tweaking its health tracking methodology after the approach led to a "significant overcount" in COVID-19 deaths in the state.

In a press release Thursday, the department acknowledged it would be retroactively removing 4,081 deaths from the state's overall count while adding 400 deaths, making the net change a decrease of roughly 3,700.

The overcount was reportedly the result of a faulty criterion for inclusions that logged deaths as resulting from COVID-19 if the individual had a confirmed positive test within a certain timeframe prior to their passing.

WHDH-TV reported that under the old methodology, Massachusetts deemed a fatality COVID-related if it met at least one of three criteria:

A case investigation determined the virus "caused" or "contributed" to the death;

The death certificate listed COVID-19 or an "equivalent term" as the cause; or

The deceased individual had a COVID-19 diagnosis within 60 days of death.

In accordance with guidance from the Council of State and Territorial Epidemiologists and the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the department decided to cut that timeframe in half. Moving forward, the state will log a COVID-19 death insofar as the individual had a confirmed positive test within 30 days of their passing.

"This strategy worked well at the beginning of the pandemic," Public Health Commissioner Margret Cooke told the outlet. "But over time, our approach proved to be too expansive and led to a significant overcount of deaths in Massachusetts. People who had gotten COVID earlier in 2020 and died for other reasons ended up still being included in COVID-associated death counts."

Critics will note that the state's new methodology — though an improvement — will likely still produce inflated results since, remarkably, it continues to log deaths as COVID-19 deaths so long as the deceased merely presented with an infection before they passed away, regardless of whether the virus could be determined as an actual cause of death.

Notwithstanding, state epidemiologist Dr. Catherine Brown said the update will "make sure that what we are capturing is the acute impact of COVID."

"People who are seriously ill and hospitalized for longer and end up dying after that 30 days have almost invariably had COVID listed on their death certificate, so they end up being counted under another method," she explained.

As of the time of this article's publication, more than 23,000 COVID-related deaths had been reported in Massachusetts. The department has not made clear how many COVID-19 deaths out of the whole have been counted using the infection timeframe criterion.

TheBlaze reached out to the Massachusetts Department of Health requesting that information and will update this article if it becomes available.

Special Prosecutor John Durham Reportedly Investigating 2016 DNC Phantom Server “Hack”

A breaking report by Margot Cleveland at The Federalist reveals Special Prosecutor John Durham is also investigating the alleged 2016 DNC server hack.

Recall, the DNC in the Spring of 2016 claimed their servers were hacked by Russian hacking groups dubbed ‘Fancy Bear’ and ‘Cozy Bear.’

The FBI, under Director Comey’s leadership at the time, asked the DNC to hand over their servers as part of the government’s investigation into the hacking.

The DNC refused to give the FBI their servers and outsourced the investigation to Crowdstrike.

Crowdstrike never offered any evidence to prove Russia hacked the DNC emails and sent them to WikiLeaks.

According to emails obtained by The Federalist, the same Georgia Tech researcher embroiled in the Alfa Bank hoax is being investigated in his role in the “origins” of the Democratic National Committee hacker scandal.

In May 2020 The Gateway Pundit reported that intel company Crowdstrike had no information that Russia hacked the DNC. According to folklore and fake news media Crowdstrike had proof that the DNC servers were hacked in 2016 and the information was then forwarded to WikiLeaks.

This was always a lie that was repeatedly promoted by the fake news.

According to our earlier report — Documents from the Intel Community that were held up by corrupt liar, Rep. Adam Schiff, show incredible information that destroys the Deep State’s many lies. The biggest lie was the Russia collusion sham based on the tale that Russia hacked the DNC and then gave the hacked emails to WikiLeaks, who in turn released them before the 2016 election to hurt Hillary Clinton.

Aaron Mate reported at the time.

Mueller stuck in the word “appear” in his report when suggesting Crowdstrike determined Russia stole DNC emails because there was zero proof of this:
