Judas had his chance at redemption but chose the riches of the world over Christ. It was his free will to betray Jesus. Btw, they had already tried to “capture” Jesus on multiple occasions and He was able to slip through their fingers so to speak? Ya know why? Because it wasn’t yet time. When it was time, He willingly went with them. Peter was ready to fight and cut off the ear of one of the guards. Jesus commanded him to put his sword away and healed the injured guard. Peter was probably trying to cut the man’s head off. Then, when the heat is as really in and Jesus was being questioned, Peter denied him 3 times, just as Jesus said he would. How did Peter go from being willing to cut a man’s head off and potentially have a fight to the death to being afraid to even acknowledge that he knew Jesus? Peter was one of the most important apostles and this was an object lesson. The weapons of our warfare are not carnal, they are spiritual. Peter probably grew more in that incident than in all of his time with Christ leading up to that incident.
