#OTD in 1972, SILENT RUNNING starring @BruceDern was released. The sci-fi movie was filmed in part on the decommissioned Essex-class aircraft carrier USS Valley Forge shortly before the ship was scrapped. To honor the carrier, the spaceship in the film was named Valley Forge.
