As I recall, when the song came out, Ted shared the story that the song came about when his wife was studying to be a nurse and learned about this disease.
We couldn't just jump on the nets, nope. A lot of shit I learned from back then came from FM radio DJs. So not really sure of the veracity of some the tidbits.
