1P/Halley is a comet that passes by the Earth roughly every 75 years. It is the only short-period comet that can regularly be observed with the naked eye during its close encounters with Earth.
Observations of Halley's comet date back to at least 240BC. Its last close approach was in 1986; its next will be in mid-2061.
