It's not really the brand or type of fridge as long as it works. Thing is though what are you going to do with all your food when the power goes out? You can run it on a generator, but that takes fuel and it is going to be costly! Costlier than it is now that's for sure. I have a great generator and use it when our power goes out just to keep my fridge and freezer going, but that's just for my daily food really, except for some of the items in my freezer.

Best way really to keep food for conserving for future use is to can it. Once you've canned it you won't need to expend any more energy on it until you use it. I'm starting to convert a lot of my food (esp from the freezer) into canned food. Couple years ago when we had the fires in Cali, I lost all of my meat in my freezer because we had to evacuate. They turned the power off in our area due to the fires. By the time the roads opened again (which was like 2.5 mo's later) all my food had spoiled! Had I canned it, it would have been fine! I lost like $300 of grass fed beef!!
