I have a theory

Old Germanic mythology mentions

a race of men referred to as Dvergr

they're associated with stones, the underground

luck, magic, and forging technology

They're described in sagas as pale skin

with stout and strong bodies,

and living in much smaller groups

Could they have been describing

remnant groups of Neanderthals?
