Thank you for contacting me about my recent comments on the 2020 election. I appreciate hearing from you.
As an elected official, I have a responsibility to tell the truth. While this may have been the first time you heard these comments, my view of the 2020 election has remained the same.
During the electoral certification process, the Senate examined the challenges made by the former President’s lawyers. My legal staff specifically examined over 60 challenges in federal and state courts across the nation. While there were some irregularities in the election results, none would have risen to the point where it would have changed the vote outcome in a single state. Over 90 Senators agreed there was not enough evidence to overturn the results and, therefore, certified the election as our Constitution requires.
Additionally, Vice President Mike Pence acknowledged President Joe Biden’s victory and acted with integrity. It’s time for the rest of us to do the same.
As a nation, we must acknowledge the facts and hold leaders accountable to tell the truth. I believe it is time to move forward and focus on governing. I will continue to work hard in Washington D.C. on behalf of South Dakotans.
