Spent 6 months travelling Ukraine a while back.
EVERYONE in Kiev speaks both Russian and Ukrainian as the language on the street. You could draw a line from north to south about 100 miles west of Kiev, and that's where the dividing line of Russian v Ukrainian language would be. Haven't been there since the Nazi takover in 2014, however, so this may have changed. But I doubt it, as organically developed language takes generations to replace the common tongue. Just my experience from having been there.
