Five men charged with child sex offences in South Australia after AFP investigations

Five men have been charged with child exploitation offences in South Australia, with one man alleged to have groomed someone online he thought was a young girl, but was actually an undercover officer.

Key points:

The men range in age from 27 to 43 and are from Adelaide's northern and southern suburbs

The AFP alleges one was using "multiple fictitious online personas"

Another was also allegedly found with videos of a woman taken without her consent

The South Australia Joint Anti Child Exploitation Team (JACET) arrested the men between March 14 and 18 after extensive joint investigations with the Australian Federal Police (AFP).

Two of the men were arrested in response to information provided from the United States National Centre for Missing and Exploited Children, including one who is alleged to have shared videos of sexual abuse via social media platforms.

A 39-year-old from Adelaide's northern suburbs was arrested and charged after he allegedly engaged in grooming someone he thought was a 15-year-old girl, but was actually a covert police officer.

Police allege that he sent sexually explicit images of himself, and that he was found after he uploaded exploitation material to a cloud storage platform and a public blogging site.

A 27-year-old from Adelaide's southern suburbs was allegedly found with child exploitation material and videos of a women allegedly taken without her consent.

A 37-year-old man was charged with producing and transmitting exploitation material, as was a 31-year-old man who allegedly had what the AFP described as "multiple fictitious online personas".

Another man from Adelaide's north was charged when he was allegedly found with child exploitation material on his phone.

AFP Detective Superintendent Gail McClure said police would continue to relentlessly pursue "those who view or trade abusive videos and photographs".

"The perverse demand for this abhorrent content fuels the physical abuse of children," she said.

"Our investigators examine the most horrific and heartbreaking content, frame by frame, and share intelligence with partners around Australia and overseas, to identify and save children and prosecute perpetrators."

One of the men has already appeared in court, while the others will face the Elizabeth, Christies Beach and Adelaide magistrates courts in the next few weeks.
