What is the U.S. Opioid Epidemic?
In the late 1990s, pharmaceutical companies reassured the medical community that patients would not become addicted to opioid pain relievers and healthcare providers began to prescribe them at greater rates.
Increased prescription of opioid medications led to widespread misuse of both prescription and non-prescription opioids before it became clear that these medications could indeed be highly addictive.
Opioid overdoses accounted for more than 42,000 deaths in 2016, more than any previous year on record.
<(the year Prince died from an opioid overdose).
An estimated 40% of opioid overdose deaths involved a prescription opioid.
In 2017 HHS declared a public health emergency and announced a 5-Point Strategy To Combat the Opioid Crisis
Beautiful graphic, reporting for duty!

Huge effort online trying to dismiss connection of the fentanyl scourge to MS-13 (VJ's army?).
This recent arrest might just prove the pudding.

Members of the DEA's NY Drug Enforcement Task Force who were tracking Velasquez approached him on Long Island Wednesday, but he ran, according to DEA Special Agent in Charge James Hunt.
“We caught him, got a search warrant for his house and found 41-kilograms of what’s believed to be a mix of heroin and fentanyl,” he said.
That’s about 90 pounds of packaged heroin and fentanyl found throughout the house in addition to about $80 thousand in cash.
“You’re talking well over one million doses of fentanyl on the street,” Suffolk County District Attorney Timothy Sini said at a news conference in Hauppauge Thursday.
Fentanyl has caused most overdose deaths lately, officials said
“Fentanyl is 50 times stronger than heroin,” said Hunt. “Traffickers want to put enough to get them high so they come back for more but often times they’re killing them.”
Investigators are looking into whether the bust is connected to the violent MS-13 gang, law enforcement sources said.

WASHINGTON — President Trump spoke Monday of using federal prosecutors to pursue “major litigation” against drug manufacturers alleged to have played a role in creating a nationwide epidemic of opioid abuse.
Speaking in New Hampshire at the White House’s rollout of a national opioids strategy, the president expanded upon a Department of Justice release last month in which Attorney General Jeff Sessions pledged to “hold accountable those whose illegality has cost us billions of taxpayer dollars.”
“Our Department of Justice is looking very seriously into bringing major litigation against some of these drug companies,” Trump said. “We will bring it at a federal level. Some states are already bringing it, but we are thinking about bringing it at a very high federal level, and we will do a job.”
DO IT !!!!!!!
