KYIV. March 20 (Interfax-Ukraine) - Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky late on Saturday night announced the National Security and Defense Council's decision to suspend the activities of several political parties in the country, including the Opposition Platform - For Life and Shariy Party.

 

"NSDC has decided to suspend any activities of several political parties for the period of martial law, and specifically, The Opposition Platform - For Life!, the Shariy Party, Nashi, Opposition Bloc, Left Opposition, Union of Leftists, Derzhava, Progressive-Socialist Party, The Socialist Party of Ukraine, The Socialists, and the Volodymyr Saldo Bloc," Zelensky said.

The Justice Ministry of Ukraine has been tasked with urgently taking exhaustive measures to ban the activities of said political parties, he said.

 

"Any activities of politicians aimed at dividing or collaboration will have no success but will meet a firm response," the Ukrainian president said.

 

"Everyone should care for the interests of the nation, the interests of Ukraine. Because this is for our sake, for the sake of life," Zelensky said.

Early life and education

 

Marie Yovanovitch is the daughter of Mikhail Yovanovitch and Nadia (Theokritoff) Yovanovitch,[13] who fled the Soviet Union and later the Nazis.[3] She was born in Canada, moved to Connecticut at age three, and became a naturalized American citizen at age eighteen. She grew up speaking Russian.[3]

 

Yovanovitch graduated from the Kent School in Connecticut in 1976; her parents were longtime foreign language teachers at the school.[14] Yovanovitch earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in history and Russian studies from Princeton University in 1980.[15] As part of her degree, Yovanovitch completed a 94-page-long senior thesis titled "The Excommunication of Tolstoy. A Personal and Political Event."[16] She studied at the Pushkin Institute in Moscow (1980) and was awarded a Master of Science degree from the National Defense University's National War College in 2001.
