Anyone who thinks it’s a good idea to declaw a cat should just not get a cat. If you’re worried about your furniture or whatever, use a water bottle to train the cat, but it’s pretty inhumane to take away one of theirnaturalandprimarydefense mechanisms, even if they’re going to be a strictly inside cat.

I’ve also never understood why people get dogs and then just tie or chain them up in the backyard for their whole lives. That’s pretty cruel if you think about it. We had a neighbor once who had his dog on a 6-8 foot chain in the backyard for years. They fed him and he had a doghouse, but they never interacted with the dog or took him for walks or anything. He finally died, mercifully. They immediately went out and got a puppy and put him on that same chain. I’ve moved since but he’s probably still there.

We still use the litter box (litter robot actually), but yeah, cats are super smart and very trainable. You just have to commit a little time to it, but they usually learn pretty quickly.
