President Biden committed another gaffe Tuesday — referring to Vice President Kamala Harris as “the first lady.”

Biden made the mix-up while noting Harris wasn’t with him at an event because her husband, second gentleman Doug Emhoff, tested positive for COVID-19 earlier in the day.

After two weeks of war and a bipartisan push in Congress, President Biden finally banned imports of Russian oil, natural gas, and coal. The idea was simple: an energy superpower like America should not fund Putin’s killing machine.

This is a good start, but it is not enough. As this editorial page argued last weekend, we must address America’s dependence on Russian uranium. If Joe Biden is serious about defunding Putin’s invasion, then he must also ban imports of Russian uranium.

The United States has vast uranium resources, including here in Wyoming. Currently, more than 90% of the uranium we use in America is imported.

Rather than letting our uranium sit in the ground, we ought to use it.

Sen. John Barrasso (R-Wyo.) and several other Republican senators introduced legislation on Thursday that would ban imports of Russian uranium as an additional way to economically isolate Russia over its invasion of Ukraine.

The legislation would further steps already taken by the U.S. to prohibit Russian energy imports after President Biden last week announced a ban on imports of oil, natural gas and coal from the country.

For years they have sought to get inside Mr Putin's mind, to better understand his intentions.

With Russian troops seemingly bogged down in Ukraine, the need to do so has become all the more necessary as they try to work out how he will react under pressure.

Understanding his state of mind will be vital to avoid escalating the crisis into even more dangerous territory.

There has been speculation that Russia's leader was ill, but many analysts believe he has actually become isolated and closed off to any alternative views.
