Was finding even more similarities, in my comment with the "flood" noun. To expand further, it was also used in the Halo series, as an unstoppable thing that the death-rings needed to be activated to stop. Since Halo was created by [them] it seems to have some significance; they want to stop the flood of information and are willing to kill all life in order to do so.
They won't succeed; it's Jesus who kills all life (world ends in fire).
