95% of Committee Members Advising on U.S. Dietary Guidelines Had Ties to Big Pharma, Big Food

https://freedomfirstnetwork.com/2022/03/95-of-committee-members-advising-on-u-s-dietary-guidelines-had-ties-to-big-pharma-big-food

A study released Monday found 95% — 19 of the 20 members — of the U.S. government-run committee responsible for establishing dietary guidelines for Americans have one or more conflicts of interest (COIs) with industry actors in Big Food, Big Ag and Big Pharma.

The U.S. Dietary Guidelines for Americans Advisory Committee (DGAC) sets the guidelines used by U.S. policymakers, healthcare providers, nutrition educators and federal nutrition program operators, including those responsible for school lunch programs, on what foods and beverages “meet nutrient needs, promote health and prevent disease.”

According to the study, 129 industry actors had relationships with the 20 DGAC members, based on the COI disclosures submitted by the members of the committee.

Describing their findings as “particularly worrisome,” the authors of the study explained why this is a matter of public concern, noting that in the U.S., the Dietary Guidelines for Americans form “the foundation for all national nutrition programs,” which amount to nearly $100 billion annually.

Did committee members influence policy on breastmilk substitutes to promote product sales?

In an example of the depth and extent of the conflicts of interest identified, the authors of the study highlighted examples such as the following, involving food and nutritional products produced for infants and young children:

“[T]he Pregnancy and Lactation Subcommittee of the DGAC had six members, four of whom, or two thirds, had COI involving manufacturers of breastmilk substitutes: SD, RK, KD, JS [referring to DGAC committee members] all had instances of COI with Mead Johnson, and SD had COI with Wyeth and Abbot [sic].

“The Birth to Age 24 Months Subcommittee, which also addressed infant and young child nutrition, had four of its six members having COI involving manufacturers of breastmilk substitutes: SD, RK, KD also served on the Pregnancy and Lactation Subcommittee, with the same COI mentioned above; and TD had at least one COI with Abbott.

“There is evidence that those companies producing breastmilk substitutes regularly use science and try to influence policy in order to protect and promote the sales of their products, and their relationships with DGAC members may have had a direct impact on the work of those members.”

The study also highlighted the following findings:

“Our analysis found that 95% of the committee members had COI [conflicts of interest] with the food, and/or pharmaceutical industries and that particular actors, including Kellogg, Abbott, Kraft, Mead Johnson, General Mills, Dannon, and the International Life Sciences [Institute or ILSI] had connections with multiple members.

Indeed, according to the study, the top three committee members in terms of COIs identified wereSharon Donovan, Jamy Ard and Heather Leidy, with 152, 92 and 84 COIs identified, respectively, and identified connections to 31, 12 and 31 industry actors, respectively.

Another committee member,Richard Mattes, had 33 connections to industry actors, in addition to 65 COIs.==

Republicans get Jackson records mid-hearing, hours after Democrats

https://justthenews.com/government/congress/durbin-admits-republicans-received-jackson-records-hours-after-dems

Senate Majority Whip Dick Durbin, D-Ill., admitted that Democratic lawmakers received some of Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson's judicial records from the White House hours before Republicans, who were unaware of the documents' existence, obtained them.

Sen. Mazie Hirono, D-Hawaii, referenced Jackson's probation recommendation records during her Supreme Court confirmation hearing on Tuesday.

Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, said that he and his staff had not seen the documents.

After the Senate Judiciary Committee took a dinner break, Sen. Cruz said Republicans received the probation records as they walked into the room and that the White House had given the information to Democrats earlier in the day.

"The information that we received from the White House, I'm told everyone had access to if they want it," Durbin said. "And now you have it, just a matter of hours after we received it."

Several other Republican senators, including Ranking Judiciary Member Chuck Grassley, R-Iowa, Sen. John Kennedy, R-La., and Sen. Mike Lee, R-Utah, echoed Cruz's concerns and said they had just received the documents.

Durbin said that the senators would have known about the missing documents after Sen. Josh Hawley, R-Mo., "launched his attack on the judge."

Kennedy asked Durbin about how the senators were supposed to know the White House had the papers.

"Did you have to be clairvoyant to know they had it?" he asked.

Durbin claimed that "most of this information was published in The Washington Post five days ago, alright? This is not confidential information."

Cruz later asked Durbin: "How would we know to request the information?"

The Democratic Whip said he would note Cruz's concerns for the record.

Grassley posted on Twitter about the situation:

"Throughout Judge Jackson vetting process I’ve called for non public docs from both WH &sentencing commission so we can hv thorough review 2nite we find out Democrats again w/held relevant docs from Rs til 11th hr I ask again: what r Democrats trying to hide?" he wrote.

This is akin to a Brady violation, IMO.

Corrupt fuckers never quit, do they?

They should be treating this pedo-loving scag like Kavenaugh was treated!

Georgia ballot harvesting probe advances as state elections board approves subpoena

Article

Dig In

The Georgia Elections Board has approved a subpoena to secure evidence and testimony in an ongoing investigation into whether third-party liberal activists illegally gathered thousands of absentee ballots in the 2020 general election and a subsequent runoff that determined Democrat control of the U.S. Senate.

The vote was a major win for Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger, who announced the investigation into alleged ballot harvesting in January and was seeking the subpoena authority to assist the probe.

The subpoena power will allow Raffensperger's team to secure evidence about a whistleblower who alleged to an election integrity group that he participated in a large operation to gather ballots in which activists were paid $10 for each ballot they delivered.

Yeah, right.

I'm sure Brad will be all over it!

Spoiler Alert:

"We have found no evidence of any wrongdoing…"

The FBI field office in Los Angeles canceled a celebratory event to honor the nomination of Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson to the Supreme Court after supervisors determined the event violated the agency's obligation to nonpartisanship, according to a report.

An email invitation from the FBI's Los AngelesWomen's and Black Affairs Committeesadvertised a "save the date" for a "nomination party" for Judge Jackson, in addition to an interview with the office's assistant director in charge. The email was dated March 11.

On March 12, second email was circulated by a member of the office'sDiversity and Inclusion departmentthat read, "The FBI must remain neutral in all political nomination and confirmation processes. Accordingly, a party for any nominee in FBI space would be inappropriate. Please see the revised flyer for the event. LA OPCA apologizes for any misunderstanding surrounding the publicity for this event." (Read: THEY GOT CAUGHT BEING POLITICAL)

(I wonder if there is a White male Christian Commttee?)
