The Securities and Exchange Commission today announced an award of $1.25 million to a whistleblower who provided specific and credible information that prompted SEC staff to open an investigation that resulted in a successful SEC covered action.

After alerting SEC staff to the underlying conduct, the whistleblower provided extensive assistance that saved SEC time and resources. The whistleblower identified witnesses, explained critical documents, and helped focus the investigation on key issues.

Cutler, 75, is charged with four felony counts of possession of unlawful sexually explicit materials of subjects younger than 12.

PORTLAND, Maine — Prominent Maine political figure Eliot Cutler was arrested Friday on four counts of possession of unlawful sexually explicit materials Class C, which means subjects are younger than 12-years-old, Matthew J. Eliot Cutler admitted to police they would find child porn in his home, Hancock DA says

District Attorney Matthew Foster alleges that police witnessed Eliot Cutler inform his wife that he was in possession of child pornography.

Cuter is still being held on $50,000 bail Saturday following his arrest.

The two-time gubernatorial candidate was was arrested Friday afternoon on felony charges related to possession of child pornography.

Cutler hired Walter McKee, a top Maine criminal defense lawyer, after state police searched his Portland and Brooklin homes on Wednesday.

He also resigned from his role at the Lerner Foundation, a nonprofit aiming to help students from rural Maine attend college.
