A former member of Paraguay’s Congress has been sentenced to nearly three years in prison for her role in an international money laundering scheme, federal prosecutors in New Jersey announced Thursday.

Cynthia Elizabeth Tarragó Diaz, 42, and her husband, Raimundo Va, 46, had pleaded guilty in September 2020 to conspiracy to commit money laundering. She received a 33-month sentence and was told to forfeit $119,049. Va is scheduled to be sentenced April 14.

The couple agreed to accept at least $2 million in U.S. currency from individuals they thought were drug traffickers, according to a statement from the U.S. Attorney’s Office for New Jersey.

The alleged drug traffickers were actually undercover FBI agents investigating a money laundering network. They met with the couple numerous times and secured audio and video recordings detailing how the laundering network functioned.

Tarragó and Va traveled to New Jersey and Florida on numerous occasions and accepted roughly $800,000 that was laundered and transferred back into the account maintained by the agents. Tarragó also indicated she could help procure large amounts of inexpensive cocaine from Paraguay, authorities say.

Tarragó, a former television personality, was a member of Paraguay’s Congress until January 2019 and had, in late 2019, announced her intention to run for mayor of Asunción, the capital district.

Asa Saint Clair, the close associate of Nancy Pelosi’s son Paul Pelosi Jr., has been convicted of wire fraud for his role in running a scam called the World Sports Alliance, which Paul Pelosi Jr. represented in the country of Ukraine. Saint Clair now faces 20 years in prison when he goes up for sentencing in July, giving him plenty of time to flip on his associates. The Campaign Show with Patrick Howley on Thursday discussed Asa Saint Clair’s conviction.

Damian Williams, a U.S. Attorney, stated, according to the Department of Justice: “As a jury has now found, Asa Saint Clair used lies to defraud everyday people out of their hard-earned money by promising them guaranteed returns if they invested in a IGObit, a digital currency he claimed the World Sports Alliance was developing. Saint Clair touted the WSA as working closely with the UN to promote the values of sports and peace for a better world, while in reality promoting only the balance of his bank accounts.”

National File has been leading the way in reporting on the Pelosi family’s Ukraine dealings. As National File reported in September: The criminal trial against Asa Saint Clair, a friend and business associate of Nancy Pelosi’s son Paul Pelosi Jr., formally moved into the discovery phase in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York on September 21. The wire fraud case centers on Saint Clair’s dealings as head of the World Sports Alliance, which Paul Pelosi Jr. represented on a business trip to Ukraine. What will discovery turn up in this case? (READ: Pelosi’s Son Tied To Fraud Ring That Tried To Sell Nancy’s Solar Tax Credits For Millions…Pelosi Jr. Associates Have Been Interviewed By The FBI). As Manhattan U.S. Attorney Geoffrey Berman previously announced, “As alleged, Asa Saint Clair used World Sports Alliance, a sham affiliate of the United Nations, as a vehicle to defraud lenders” by offering them IGObit, a fake cryptocurrency. Records show that Paul Pelosi Jr. promoted IGObit.

MSNBC anchor Andrea Mitchell continues to downplay the Hunter Biden scandal even as multiple news outlets have begun verifying the emails from his laptop that were previously avoided during the 2020 presidential election.

Mitchell led a panel discussion on Wednesday condemning former President Trump's remarks in a recent interview urging Russian President Vladimir Putin to look for "answers" regarding Hunter Biden's business dealings overseas, particularly in Russia.

"Mr. Trump's claims based on a partisan GOP report released before the 2020 election have been discredited by fact-checkers and been denied by Hunter Biden," Mitchell told viewers.

After she and her panelists pummeled the former president, Mitchell complained that "these Trump conspiracy theories are being echoed on Capitol Hill," pointing to an FBI oversight hearing this week when Rep. Matt Gaetz, R-Fla., brought up Hunter Biden's laptop.
