The Agenda

Health care is and always should be a human right. This has only become clearer over the last two years, as millions of workers lost their jobs and their access to employer-sponsored health insurance, leaving many to choose between paying for health insurance and putting food on the table.

The loss of a job should not be a double calamity. No oneโ€™s health insurance should be dependent on their job.

That is why I have been a co-sponsor of Medicare for All in every Congress since it was first introduced in 2003. And why just this week I chaired the first Congressional hearing on Medicare for All and other universal health coverage proposals since 2019.

In fact, research has shown that under the Affordable Care Act, New York State cut its uninsured rate by more than half.

Because until everyone has access to health insurance, we are not equal.
