Bat studies in Ukraine? Why yes, yes there was…

ONE - Wing membrane and Fur as indicators of metal exposure and contamination of internal tissues in bats

-"Ukraine can serve as a model territory for research on exposure of bats to pollutants."

-"In this study we focused on contamination with trace metals of first-year bats from Kharkiv city, NE Ukraine."

TWO -Bats, emerging infectious diseases, and the rabies paradigm revisited (2011)

-"Moreover, at least three other cases, where the viruses were not identified but the disease

was compatible with rabies and developed after bat exposure, were reported from the Ukraine and China"

-"Human rabies case caused from a bat bite in the Ukraine."

THREE -Possible zoonotic viral threats associated with bats in southern Ukraine

-"evaluation of some bat species inhabiting Ukraine as potential reservoir hosts of highly

dangerous viruses including lyssaviruses, MERS-CoV-related coronaviruses, and arboviruses"

-"has recently started to perform diagnostics of coronaviruses" (2017)

There are more, but time & space are lacking…anon DID find an ECO-PARK worth noting, in Kharkiv, that received nearly 100 bats

from western Ukraine (unknown timeline). The website states: "During its existence, it has rescued more than 12,000 bats,

all species of which are listed in the Red Book in Ukraine. Rescued and rehabilitated animals are returning to nature, in particular,

last year a record number of bats - 2500 individuals - were released into the wild on the territory of Feldman Eco-park."
