Secret Service paying over $30K per month for Malibu mansion to protect Hunter Biden

The agency responsible for protecting the president and his family among other ranking government officials selected the property in order to be located as close as possible to Biden's own rented mansion where he is paying about $20,000 a month according to property listings, sources told ABC News.

Retired senior Secret Service agent Don Mihalek, now an ABC News contributor, said the arrangement is "the cost of doing business for the Secret Service," adding that under the federal law, the agency has a mandated protective responsibility for the president, the first family, and anybody else the president designates for protection.

Explanation of what to expect for SCOTUS Judge procedure tonight in the Senate.

So, after four hours of debate, we expect the Senate to vote tonight to “discharge” the nomination from committee.

This will require a simple majority vote.

If the Senate votes to extract the nomination from committee, the full Senate can debate debate tomorrow.

Tonight’s vote IS ONLY PROCEDURAL. This is NOT the confirmation vote itself. That won’t happen until Thursday at the earliest.

A tie vote in committee on a Supreme Court nominee is rare.

In 1991, the Judiciary Committee deadlocked at giving Justice Clarence Thomas a “favorable” recommendation. The full committee finally voted to send Thomas’s nomination to the floor without any recommendation.

But, the nomination must secure some sort of vote to dislodge it from committee and send it to the floor. If every vote is deadlocked, the only option is what’s called a “motion to discharge.”

This is where the Senate actually culls the nomination of the committee, via a simple majority vote on the floor.

The Senate has not had to discharge a Supreme Court nominee since 1853. That was nominee William Micou. But the Senate never confirmed Micou.

The full Senate has voted to discharge 16 nominations from committee already during the 117th Congress. That includes the nomination of Health and Human Services Secretary Xavier Becerra.

In fact, the Senate just voted to pull two nominees from committees and send them to the floor over the past few days: Alvaro Bedoya to serve on the Federal Trade Commission and Lisa DeNell Cook to become a member of the Federal Reserve.
