Wild fox in Washington DC is finally captured after it bit several people including a CONGRESSMAN - House sergeant at arms says there are 'several dens' on the Capitol grounds
A wild fox attacked several people in Washington, D.C. this week and was finally captured Tuesday after biting a Congressman outside the U.S. Capitol
The fox was brought to justice by Capitol Police, according to their Twitter account, just after California Democratic Rep. Ami Bera said he had been bitten
'I didn't see it and all of a sudden I felt something lunge at the back of my leg,' Bera said. 'I jumped and got my umbrella'
The House Sergeant-at-Arms reported that at least three reports had come in of fox bites to Capitol Police
'There are possibly several fox dens on Capitol Grounds,' the House sergeant at arms office said
A wild fox was captured after it attacked several people in Washington, D.C. this week - including a Congressman outside the U.S. Capitol building.
The fox was brought to justice by Capitol Police, according to their Twitter account, just after California Democrat Ami Bera said he had been bitten outside the Senate building Monday night.
'I didn't see it and all of a sudden I felt something lunge at the back of my leg,' Bera said, according to PunchBowl News. 'I jumped and got my umbrella.'
Bera later sent a journalist a photo showing how the fox had punctured his suit jacket.
The House Sergeant-at-Arms, William J. Walker, said that at least three people reported fox bites to Capitol Police recently.
'There are possibly several fox dens on Capitol Grounds,' Walker said. 'Animal Control is currently on the grounds seeking to trap and relocate any foxes they find.'
'Foxes are wild animals that are very protective of their dens and territory. Please do not approach any fox you see,' he added.
The fox was spotted Monday outside the United States Botanic Garden at the base of the Capitol and later on the Capitol's southern side, according to the office.
A third incident was reported when Capitol Police said they 'received a call about a fox approaching staff near First and C Street NE,' which is not near where the first two encounters took place.
Police made no mention of Bera being bitten in any of their reports.
The fifth-term Democrat joked about the encounter in a tweet on Tuesday evening.
