>TRUTH SOCIAL

Far-right conspiracy theorists and QAnon boosters have found their latest obsession: Elon Musk’s acquisition of a 9.2% stake in Twitter.

This week, the Tesla CEO purchased over 73 million shares of Twitter stock and was added to the company’s board of directors, prompting plenty of questions about how the controversial tech billionaire will influence the social media platform. As usual, however, QAnon conspiracy theorists had a different take on the matter. They’ve become convinced this is all part of “the plan.”

For the uninitiated: QAnon believers, who call themselves “anons,” think a secret military operation will soon purge the world of their political enemies and restore former President Donald Trump to power, an event they refer to as "the storm." The conspiracy theory began in 2017, and until late 2020, someone using the name “Q” posted regularly on message boards. Anons continue to furiously decode these “drops,” certain they contain information about the secret military operation they believe may march into the White House and arrest Joe Biden at any time.

Twitter has played a huge part in the plan since nearly the beginning. The first year Q began posting, the account wrote, "Look to Twitter. Exactly this: 'My fellow Americans, the Storm is upon us.’” This post has taken on legendary status in the QAnon community, with many convincing themselves that Trump was going to post that exact phrase on Twitter. It caused much consternation when Trump was banned from the platform in the aftermath of the Jan. 6 Capitol riots, and believers have speculated since about whether Trump must be allowed back on Twitter for “the storm” to officially begin.

Enter Musk. Some QAnon believers apparently have the mistaken assumption that a 9.2% stake is the same as owning the company. Twitter has 11 members of its board of directors — 12 with Musk — and also answers to public shareholders, which makes any unilateral policy decisions by Musk highly unlikely.

Nonetheless, baseless speculation is running rampant on QAnon forums that Musk will soon merge Twitter with Truth Social, Trump’s struggling social media platform. In recent weeks, Truth Social has lost two of its top executives, dropped to the 355th most popular app on the Apple app store and is still unavailable on desktop or Android. But none of these facts particularly matter to Q believers, many of whom are under the impression that they’ll soon be rich thanks to Digital World Acquisition Corp., Truth Social’s publicly traded parent company.

DWAC and DWACW stock has been sinking steadily in response to ongoing news about Truth Social’s woes. On Wednesday, DWACW closed at $12.30 a share. For context, it sold for $22.70 a share a month ago.

“Gonna keep holding DWAC and DWACW,” reads a top-voted comment on a major QAnon forum. “Yes, it’s down, I suspect it will go up after merger. Remember, it’s not a loss if you don’t sell.”

“Ain't no patriot selling their shares right now,” chimed in another. “That'd be like throwing money down the river or burning it in the fire.”

>Well Well, we are the news, But could someone tell them to get their sources correct. There is no QANON,

in common parlance QANON is just an umbrella term for the Q followers and the Q movement, don't get stuck on that. And originally it was the anons who came up with the term "QAnon"
