A "universal factory" is a computationally reconfigurable manufactory which, given raw materials, can make any product, including improved copies of itself.

This is generally considered to be a hypothetical – a thought experiment - as, until recently, the computation required was beyond the capacity of our devices.

Given the nature of recursive, self improving systems if we don't wipe ourselves out acting in haste and ignorance it is also inevitable.

IDK if Elon has actually built a universal factory. IDK if we have reached that tech level yet, but it would not be surprising to discover we had.

Our computational infrastructure was built not to serve but enslave us. That doesn't mean we can't use it, like any powerful tool, used incorrectly it's dangerous.
