Mr. Biden: When I decided to run, this is one of the first decisions I made. [nominate a black woman to supreme court]
Mr. Biden: I've nominated more black women judges of federal appeal courts of all previous presidents combined.
[record-setting use of discrimination]
Jackson: I must also thank President Obama, who put his faith in me by nominating me to my first judicial role in the federal district court.
[they probably intended to place her on the supreme court since Harvard, or even before]
Jackson: No one does this on their own. The path was cleared for me.
I was watching an old episode of Hawaii 5-0 last night ['Death Is A Company Policy', 1972], and Detective McGarrett speculates this about someone he thinks has infiltrated the prosecutor's office:
"A long time ago, there's a meeting of the underworld. I'm talking top international level. Now, they're planning their strategy for decades to come. Planning it like a war, with deep planted spies inside the enemy camp. Now, how would you do that given all the time and money you need? First, you pick your people. You pick them in high school, the way the big corporations do. Young people with brilliant minds and empty pockets. You take care of the family, you ease the financial strain. Then you invest a few thousand a year in the kid's tuition. Tuition in a top mainland school, plus clothes, a car, spending money. You do better than all the other scholarships that are available to a poor kid. Then you sit back and wait for your investment to pay off. The kid knows he owes you. He graduates with top honors and gets a degree. Then you help open the right doors. He gets the right job, and you get his soul. "
