Dear [Anon]

Thank you for writing to express your concerns about coronavirus disease (COVID-19) vaccine passports. The Biden administration has stated that the White House will not be requiring Americans to have a vaccine passport.

Our country has faced many challenges in the past century but the widespread health and economic impacts of the coronavirus disease have impacted the very backbone of our nation. We have faced unemployment levels unseen since the Great Depression; we have seen more neighborhood businesses, mom and pop operations permanently close their doors than ever imagined; we have lost over 900,000 Americans due to the health effects of this novel disease. The loss our nation has experienced and is continuing to grapple with is profound.

Doctors, medical experts, immunologists, scientists, researchers, and public health officials all agree that the best, most effective way to combat this once-in-a-century pathogen is by vaccinating the public. These vaccines are safe. As you likely know, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is the regulatory authority that has oversight of the safety, effectiveness, and quality of vaccines that are used nationwide. All U.S. approved COVID-19 vaccines have undergone lengthy and rigorous applications, multiple phases of testing, as well as post-market vaccine safety monitoring to gather additional information about the vaccine's safety, efficacy, or optimal use. All of this ensures American consumers continue to benefit from having access to the safest and most advanced pharmaceutical system in the world.

Again, thank you for contacting me. Please keep in touch with your thoughts and opinions.

Sincerely,

Charles E. Schumer

United States Senator
