Fears of Human Trafficking as Thousands of Child Migrants Go Missing In Austria

Nearly 4,500 underage migrants who applied for asylum in Austria last year have reportedly gone missing, prompting concerns some may have fallen victim to human traffickers.

Figures from the Austrian Interior Ministry reveal that 78 per cent of the 5,770 supposedly underage migrants who tried to claim asylum in Austria last year, 4,489 individuals cannot be accounted for.

The figures became known following a question to the government by NEOS party MP Stephanie Krisper.

Of the 5,770 underage migrants, the majority, 3,401, are said to be Afghan nationals, followed by 1,345 Syrians and smaller numbers from Somalia, Pakistan, Egypt, and Bangladesh, Austrian newspaper Der Standard reports.

Lisa Wolfsegger of the NGO Asylum Coordination commented on the statistics, saying: “Imagine that in one year around 180 school classes simply disappeared without a trace. Where have all these children gone?”

While Wolfsegger noted that many of the underage migrants may have simply exploited the European Union’s open borders Schengen regime to travel to other European countries undetected, some may have fallen victim to human traffickers.

The disappearance of underage asylum seekers is reportedly not being properly investigated by Austrian authorities as no governing authority has custody of them.

Austrian federal states only assume the obligation of custody after the minors are transferred to their care.

Only the city of Vienna makes an exception for minor asylum seekers in the asylum process — if the children are said to be under the age of 14.

The statistics are alarming in the wake of the wave of the arrival of millions of Ukrainian refugees to Europe, most of which are either women or children, with some of the latter unaccompanied.

Last month, European Commissioner for Home Affairs Ylva Johansson expressed concerns that Ukrainian refugee children could become targets of human traffickers, saying “There is a huge risk of trafficking in vulnerable children.”

Johansson noted that unaccompanied children, some of whom have been born to surrogate mothers in Ukraine, could be exploited or abducted.

Russian Parliament Channel Banned from YouTube

MOSCOW (AP) — YouTube has banned the channel of Russia’s lower house of parliament, the State Duma, prompting government officials to renew longtime threats against the platform.

The Duma TV channel reported the ban on the messaging app Telegram, noting that it had 145,000 subscribers and over 100,000 million total views. In comments to the Russian news agency Interfax, Google didn’t give an exact reason for the move, but said the company follows “all applicable sanction and trade compliance laws.”

Russia’s state communications watchdog Roskomnadzor demanded that YouTube unblock the channel. Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said Saturday that the service “has handed itself a sentence” and urged its users to “download content, transfer it onto Russian platforms. And fast.”

State Duma speaker Vyacheslav Volodin called the move against the parliament’s YouTube channel “another proof of violations of the rights and freedoms of citizens by Washington.”

She also focused on the growing backlash against Disney among conservatives while omitting the fact that it was left-wing LGBTQ activists who dragged Disney into the political debate by pressuring the company to abandon its neutral position and oppose the legislation.

“We need corporations to step up on principle, regardless of what the resulting backlash might look like,” she wrote.

“The only option for corporate leaders is to stand tall for authenticity, generosity, joy and decency. These things are kryptonite for the right-wing agenda. Fortunately, they are also the heart and soul of the Disney brand.”

Abigail Disney’s brother, Roy P. Disney, recently revealed that one of his children is transgender in a fundraiser for the left-wing Human Rights Campaign, saying he was “heartbroken” over the Florida law.

Abigail Disney has been an outspoken critic of Disney senior management, even creating a documentary criticizing the pay gap of Disney employees, focusing on wage earners, or “cast members,” at Disneyland, some of whom say they are unable to afford sufficient food on their pay.

US Secret Service Cartagena scandal 'involved 20 women'

The US Secret Service prostitution scandal involved as many as 20 women, 11 American agents and some military personnel, senior US officials say.

Senator Susan Collins, briefed by the Secret Service director, said 20 women were found at the US hotel.

The incidents took place in Cartagena, Colombia, ahead of last weekend's Summit of the Americas.

On Monday, the head of the US armed forces said the Secret Service and the military had "let the boss down".

Secret Service Director Mark Sullivan was "rightly appalled by the agents' actions and is pursuing a vigorous internal investigation", Ms Collins said in a statement.

Dog-handlers investigated

"He ordered all the agents to return to Washington immediately, and all have been interviewed," said Ms Collins, the top Republican on the Senate's Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee.

Speaking to reporters on Tuesday, Ms Collins, a Republican who represents Maine in the Senate, also said she had asked Mr Sullivan a number of questions during her phone briefing.

"Who were these women? Could they have been members of groups hostile to the United States? Could they have planted bugs, disabled weapons, or… jeopardised [the] security of the president or our country?"

Speaking to reporters afterwards the senator said some agents "were uniformed personnel who are assigned to building security". Others were "these specialised agents who do security details", she said.

US congressional homeland security committee chairman Peter King told Reuters news agency that "so far there is no information that any of them were involved with any narco-terrorist group or any organised crime".

Two of the agents were senior personnel with salaries at the top end of the government's pay scale, the Washington Post reported.

All 11 agents have been placed on administrative leave and had their security clearance revoked. They were not directly involved with presidential security.

A Marine Corps spokesman said on Tuesday that among the military service members being investigated were two Marine dog handlers assigned to support the Secret Service.

The White House meanwhile said it had confidence in the director of the Secret Service to investigate the incident, adding that he had addressed the matter quickly.

Ohio Is The First State To Follow Florida On Anti-Grooming Bill

Republican state lawmakers in Ohio have presented a bill copying Florida’s contentious bill that critics call “Don’t Say, Gay,” teeing up another intense confrontation over how sex and gender issues are handled in schools.

Presented on Monday, Ohio’s HB 616 would forbid classroom instruction on sexual orientation and gender identity in kindergarten through third grade, just like the Florida law condemned by LGBTQ advocates.

State Rep. Mike Loychik, a Bazetta Republican and one of the bill’s two sponsors, wrote in a tweet: “Curriculum about gender identity and sexuality has no place in K-3 classrooms, period.”

The bill’s other sponsor, GOP Rep. Jean Schmidt of Loveland, said in a statement: “The classroom is a place that seeks answers for our children without political activism.”

“Parents deserve and should be provided a say in what is taught to their children in schools. The intent of this bill is to provide them with the tools to be able to see what their child is being taught,” added Schmidt.After Florida’s new law brought activist fury and lawsuits, the Ohio bill will certainly cause controversy – and the proposal in the Buckeye State goes even further.

The Ohio bill would also demand that any curriculum or instructional materials on sexual orientation or gender identity in grades four through 12 must be “age-appropriate or developmentally appropriate for students in accordance with state standards.”

Ukraine could become an official member of the European Union within weeks not years, it was revealed tonight, as Brussels chief Ursula von der Leyen vowed to accelerate the wartorn country's ascension to the bloc in the wake of Russia's invasion.

The European Commission President symbolically handed Volodymyr Zelensky an official membership questionnaire at an historic joint press conference in Kyiv, in a move likely to infuriate Vladimir Putin and his inner circle.

Becoming an EU member state normally takes years, and the process involves several rounds of applications, criteria checks and negotiations.

Kyiv has long aspired to join the European bloc, with the country's foreign minister pointedly using Ukraine's 2021 independence day to tell Politico that Brussels must welcome Moldova, Georgia and Ukraine into the European Union.

However, Ukraine's desire to become an official member state fuelled the Maidan revolution in 2014 which led to Russia's illegal annexation of Crimea. Ukraine already belongs to the EU's Eastern Partnership and European Neighbourhood Policy.

Von der Leyen's public appearance was the EU's latest attempt to offer Kyiv both moral and financial support after Zelensky declared Russia's invasion was a direct attack not only on Ukraine's existence, but the security of Europe as a whole.

'It will not as usual be a matter of years to form this opinion but I think a matter of weeks,' she told the Kyiv press conference. The President also reiterated the West's policy of support for Ukraine, vowing that Putin 'must fail' after the EU unveiled its further sanctions on Russia.

Earlier on Friday, the Brussels chief visited Bucha, where Russian forces have allegedly committed mass murder and rape. Since Russian troops pulled back from the town, Ukrainian officials say hundreds of dead civilians have been found there. Visiting the town on Friday, Von der Leyen said she had witnessed the 'unthinkable'.

Referring to a deadly attack at Kramatorsk railway station earlier in the day, in which dozens of refugees including children were killed, she told the Kyiv news conference: 'The cynical behaviour has almost no benchmark anymore… It is unbelievable.'

Official expresses hope Washington’s apparent rejection of Tehran’s demand could yet sink nuclear talks — though it is understood an agreement is still possible

Israel hopes the Biden administration’s reported decision to not remove the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps from the US terror blacklist could be a “dealbreaker” for Iran in talks on reviving the 2015 nuclear deal, a senior official in the Prime Minister’s Office said Saturday.

The official told The Times of Israel that the PMO welcomed the move, reported by The Washington Post, but understood it may not ultimately prevent an agreement between Iran and the United States, with Tehran still poised to benefit economically if that happens.

The Post’s David Ignatius was told by an unnamed senior US official that the administration would not agree to Iran’s demand to remove the IRGC from the list of Foreign Terrorist Organizations (FTO), even if it put the signing of a deal “in jeopardy.”

The Pentagon’s top general said Thursday he was opposed to the potential delisting of the IRGC’s Quds Force, and a State Department spokeswoman later said the president shared Mark Milley’s views.

The issue had been one of the few related to the nuclear negotiations that Prime Minister Naftali Bennett and Foreign Minister Yair Lapid had forcefully spoken out against in public, as they have sought to quietly influence Washington on the negotiations, rather than spar with the US publicly.

Ynet quoted a senior Israeli official asserting that the government’s approach had proven itself: “The policy Israel has enacted, led by Prime Minister Bennett and Foreign Minister Lapid, not to get into clashes for the sake of clashes but influencing where possible, is a good and correct approach.”

Criminal referrals of former Trump officials pose thorny questions for DOJ

Tough decisions are piling up at the Department of Justice (DOJ), which is now weighing three criminal referrals from Congress directed at former Trump White House officials.

The referrals pose thorny legal issues for a department that has historically defended senior administration officials’ testimonial immunity in the face of congressional subpoenas.

This week, the House voted to hold Peter Navarro and Dan Scavino in contempt for defying the Jan. 6 committee’s subpoenas as the panel grows increasingly frustrated over the nearly four months that have passed since it approved a referral for former White House chief of staff Mark Meadows.

When the House voted to refer Stephen Bannon to the DOJ last year for defying another select committee subpoena, federal prosecutors quickly brought criminal contempt of Congress charges against the Trump confidant and former White House strategist.

But the referrals involving Meadows, Navarro and Scavino may involve tougher considerations for the Justice Department since their subpoenas cover their work as White House officials.

Neil Eggleston, a former White House counsel and congressional investigator for the House’s Iran-Contra probe, said the remaining cases are more difficult than that of Bannon, who was well out of the White House during the time period in question.

“For people who were senior White House officials at the time, there’s another layer of complexity that doesn’t apply to a Bannon,” he said.

The DOJ has historically argued in favor of shielding such officials from congressional inquiry, adopting legal positions that the legislative branch has no avenue to compel testimony from presidential advisers.

“For a few decades now, we’ve seen DOJ articulating this kind of absolutist stance that close advisors to the president are absolutely immune from congressional subpoena,” said David Janovsky, an analyst with the nonpartisan Project on Government Oversight.

“And it’s worth noting that DOJ has basically invented this out of whole cloth, and it’s certainly not something that Congress agrees with, and it’s not really something that any of the judges who have had an occasion to look at this argument have agreed with either. So they’re pretty much on their own on it, but that’s the line they’ve taken in the past,” he added.

Globalism v Nationalism – Last Weekend Hungary, Tomorrow France Round One

Last weekend it was the Hungarian election that surfaced as the first contest between globalism -vs- nationalism in the “post-COVID” era. This weekend it is the election in France that will indicate how the French people feel about similar issues of the totalitarian, fascist or corporate state, ie. “globalism.”

There are a multitude of parties and coalitions in France represented by multiple candidates. However, if no candidate wins 50% of the total vote tomorrow, only the top two candidates will advance to the second round national election on April 24th. Those top two candidates are likely to be current French President Emmanuel Macron (globalist wing) and Marine Le Pen (nationalist wing).

Currently Macron holds around 25% and Le Pen around 23% (individually) for the first round, with multiple candidates holding smaller percentages of the remaining vote. Therefore, it is almost certain that Macron and Le Pen will advance to a head-to-head matchup on April 24th. That’s when things will really become important for the larger battle of globalism v nationalism.

The two candidates have faced off before; however, this time pandemic response by Emmanuel Macron could likely tilt the election in favor of Le Pen.

SIDEBAR – I predict we will see Barack Obama enter the French presidential election again, as an influence agent, between Monday of next week and April 24th, just as he did the last time in order to try and convince the French people to stick with Macron. Foreign interference in national elections (think Russia interfering in U.S. elections) is a horrible thing, a terrible threat to democracy, except when the U.S. globalists need it.

When the U.S. leftists, democrats, need to influence the Canadian election, suddenly election interference is a good thing. When the democrats need to influence the Mexico election, no big deal. When the U.S. leftists need to influence the French election, or Egyptian election, or Israeli election, or U.K. election, no biggie, no biggie, no biggie. Their hypocrisy is boundless when they know the media will let them pretend not to know things. Watch for it, I’ll bet one donut the U.S. will pull out all the stops to support Macron. During his pandemic response Macron went totally overboard. He was the first one to announce (July 2021) that a vaccine passport would be needed in order to shop, drink, eat at restaurants, travel or worship. Many other western, fascist totalitarian dictators, the new democracy leaders, followed soon thereafter. Macron’s ideological fiats may come back to haunt him…. We can hope. The French people were not happy with this unilateral decision and it showed people how quickly some leaders will become dictators.

Moderna Recalls 764,900 COVID-19 Vaccine Doses After Contamination Found

The U.S. pharmaceutical and biotechnology company Moderna Inc. on Friday issued a recall in Europe involving 764,900 doses of its COVID-19 vaccine “Spikevax” after contaminants were discovered in a vial.

“The lot is being recalled due to a foreign body being found in one vial in the lot manufactured at the company’s contract manufacturing site, ROVI,” Moderna and Spain’s ROVI Pharma Industrial Services said in a joint statement.

The drugmaker did not specify what kind of foreign substance was found and had recalled the whole lot out of “an abundance of caution.”

The contamination was traced in just one vial of the batch and investigators do not believe the contamination posed a risk to other vials in the lot.

“Moderna conducted a cumulative search of its global safety database, and no safety concerns were reported in individuals who received the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine from this lot. To date, no safety or efficacy issues have been identified,” according to the statement.

The lots were distributed from Jan. 13 to Jan. 14 in Norway, Poland, Portugal, Spain, and Sweden. To date, more than 900 million doses of the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine have been administered worldwide.

Last year, Moderna had several lots of its COVID-19 vaccines recalled by Japanese authorities after an investigation found stainless steel contaminants in some vials. The recalled batches were manufactured by the same Spanish company, ROVI.

Texas Gov. Greg Abbott wasn’t bluffing when he said he would bus illegal aliens dropped off by the federal government in small Texas communities to Washington, D.C. Apparently, DHS simply dropped the illegals off without warning and without asking permission. Many Texas towns were blindsided by Joe Biden’s “catch and release” policy and were begging Abbott for help.

White House press secretary Jen Psaki whined that Abbott’s voluntary bus rides were a “publicity stunt.” Well, duh. But immediately after Abbott’s announcement, the federal government stopped dropping illegal aliens in the towns that had been pleading for help.

“From the [Rio Grande Valley] to Terrell County, a large majority of the communities that originally reached out for support through this operation have now said that the federal government has stopped dropping migrants in their towns since the governor’s announcement on Wednesday,” he said.

Christensen said each bus “has the capacity and supplies necessary to carry up to 40 migrants.”

On Wednesday, Abbott said at a news conference that the state would be sending the migrants “to the United States Capitol, where the Biden administration will be able to more immediately address the needs of the people that they are allowing to come across our border.”

Senator Ted Cruz thought Abbott’s idea was so good he introduced legislation to expand the illegal alien transport program to what he considered to be other rich, Democratic enclaves.

Abbott also promised more vehicle inspections, knowing full well that would lead to much longer delays at the border and add to supply chain woes.

Commercial vehicles trying to enter the United States to deliver products from Mexico have been backed up for hours at Texas ports of entry following Gov. Greg Abbott’s directive on Wednesday that state troopers increase inspections.

“This continues to add disruption to our supply chain,” said Ermilo Richer, the owner of a 100-year-old logistics company in Laredo who said his trucks were taking between four and five hours to cross from Mexico. “It’s just something we don’t need right now.”

Laredo Mayor Pete Saenz told KHOU-11, “Any slowdown in commerce at our bridges is a definite slowdown in our economy.” That’s certainly true. But Abbott is fighting the Biden plan to lift Title 42 restrictions and open the floodgates to an estimated 800,000 new arrivals in the next year. The burden that would fall on Texas and other border states would be intolerable.

The Foundation Funding the “Fact-Checkers” Who Defend the Chinese Communist Party Is Heavily Invested in China.

The Knight Foundation – a George Soros-linked, left-wing group purporting to tackle disinformation by funding anti-conservative media operations and “fact-checkers” – has investments in firms tied to the Russian government and Chinese Communist Party, The National Pulse can exclusively reveal.

The group’s most recent financial disclosures reveal over $17,000,000 invested in a Chinese Communist Party-linked investment fund and over $1,200,000 invested in Russia Partners – which boasts of its close connections to “government leaders in Russia.”

The unearthed financial ties come as the group continues to peddle conspiracy theories about Russian influence in the 2016 election and purports to “protect press freedom” while investing in countries whose journalism sectors are consistently ranked among the least free.

China Capital and Growth.

Since at least 2011, the Knight Foundation’s financial disclosure forms reveal two investments: IDG-Accel China Capital II and IDG-Accel China Growth III.

The most recent financial disclosure on the Knight Foundation’s site shows that in 2019 the value of the investments totaled $11,597,551 and $6,066,392, respectively.

From 2013 to 2015, the group’s financial disclosures also listed China as a “foreign country in which organization has financial interest.”

The two Chinese private equity funds describe themselves as “making investments within China” – and often in state-run companies.

At least a dozen of the fund’s employees have ties to the Chinese Communist Party, including former officials in the technology and urban planning sectors along with the State Department., former employees of the Chinese military proxy China Mobile, and recipients of Chinese Communist Party awards for “Pushing the Area Economy Forward.”

Senior Advisor Jianning Jiang also serves as a Chief Advisor to the body overseeing China’s various Communist Youth Leagues.

Chinese state-run media directors, several ex-employees of state-run investment funds, fellows from state-run think tanks, and professors and People’s Liberation Army-linked colleges.

Aimed at boosting the Chinese economy, the investment group describes one of its primary goals as “upgrading and transform[ing] the Chinese economy by partnering with Chinese companies to acquire technology and industrial know-how abroad” and admits to having “partnered” with the Chinese Communist Party city-level governments to do so.

Companies the firm has invested in have also count the Chinese Communist Party as customers and include firms such as Tencent – which has been described by the U.S. State Department as a “tool of the Chinese government” – in its portfolio.

Since 2011, the Knight Foundation has also retained investments with the private equity fund Russia Partners.

In 2011, the foundation had two investments in Russia Partners funds valued at over $21,000,000. The latest financial disclosure reveals one investment with the company valued at $1,234,020.

Testifying before the Senate Armed Services Committee on Thursday, April 7, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs Gen. Mark Milley revealed that US and NATO countries have collectively provided roughly 60,000 anti-tank weapons and 25,000 anti-aircraft weapons to Ukraine since Russia’s invasion on Feb. 24.

“The Russian air force has not even today established air superiority let alone air supremacy, which is one of the reasons why they are having great difficulty on the ground,” the ambitious four-star general, who appears to have sights set on the presidential office after retirement, like Dwight Eisenhower, boasted before the committee:

“So the air superiority mission over Ukraine’s airspace has not been achieved, why is that? It’s because of the survival of the air defense systems, both the MANPADS (man-portable air defense systems) that we have been providing – stingers and the like from other NATO countries – plus the longer range SAMs (surface-to-air missiles) that have been provided and that they already had.”

“We are providing Ukrainians intelligence to conduct operations in the Donbas, that’s correct,” Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin confessed publicly for the first time that the US is providing intelligence to Ukrainian forces in response to the question from Republican Sen. Tom Cotton of Arkansas.

“We continue to provide useful information and intelligence to the Ukrainian Armed Forces in their fight,” a senior defense official acknowledged after Austin’s remarks. “As that fight migrates more to the Donbas region, we will adjust our information content and flow as required.”

In most cases, two sources familiar with the intelligence-sharing system told CNN, the intelligence being shared involved information about Russian force movements and locations, as well as intercepted communications about their military plans. Idaho Supreme Court Temporarily Blocks New Law that Bans Abortions After Six Weeks of Pregnancy

Idaho Supreme Court temporarily blocked on Friday the implementation of a recently signed Texas-style bill that outlaws abortions after six weeks of pregnancy.

Last month, Idaho Governor Brad Little (R) signed a bill that prohibits abortions after six weeks of pregnancy and is set to go into effect on April 22. The new bill was modeled after the Texas “heartbeat” abortion law.

Idaho Supreme Court Chief Justice G. Richard Bevan granted a motion to reconsider in response to a petition filed by Planned Parenthood Great Northwest, Hawaii, Alaska, Indiana, and Kentucky.

The Idaho Supreme Court temporarily blocked Friday the state’s recently enacted six-week abortion ban, a local NBC affiliate reports.

Why it matters: The law, which was signed in March and set to go into effect on April 22, will not be enforced while the court considers the case. The legislation was modeled after Texas’ six-week abortion ban, which encourages private citizens to sue any health professional who has provided an abortion.

Details: Idaho’s law does make exceptions for cases of rape or incest, but a person must have reported it to law enforcement and shown a police report to the abortion provider to qualify for an exception.

A rapist’s family members can also sue medical providers if the victim becomes pregnant.

Planned Parenthood sued the state shortly after the bill became law.

The big picture: Planned Parenthood affiliates have urged people in Idaho to stock up on birth control and Plan B.

The organization and its allies have also worked to help people access abortion care in other states.
