Imho most Americans want to DO something about all these problems. Thing is- many people are wolves in sheeps clothing so choosing the right people to help is hard. Even harder is figuring out which of the right people one can even work with. Lots of ideas floating around from both sides. Sometimes it just ALL feels like chaos. Move yourself to another part of the country and the search becomes even harder.
