Not sure an old scanner would pick much up, would depend upon what system the locals are using. If they are using 800 truncated or higher system, not likely to get much, unless you have an 800mhz scanner; not to mention some municipal systems have encoding to keep busy bodies from eavesdropping. The system our county had where I worked as a Firefighter, was behind the times, but was 800 truncated split channels for Fire/EMS/Police. Not sure what they're running now, but that was what they had 6 years ago when I had to retire. One of the guys I worked with was a scanner squirrel, bought one for himself, it had to go to the county Comm center to be programmed, this was after he got approval through Fire admin to have it programmed.
