a dozen yrs ago there was a case in philly where a 13 yr old girl broke into a man's home to rob it while he was not there. but he came home while she was still there and he caught her in the act of burglary. she panicked and picked up a knife and stabbed him to death. the DA and the media made a big deal out of trying this 13 yr old girl as an adult, and sending her to prison for life w/o parole, and the public supported it. now just imagine how different the outcome would have been if instead of stabbing him, she stripped naked and tried to seduce him. magically, she would have been transformed from a burglar and a murder who should be punished as an adult, to an innocent child/victim of the evil sexual predator man. see how twisted up shit gets?
sorry, i'm opposed to ANY fixed number for "age of consent." each and every case should be decided individually. the one-size-fits-all/zero-tolerance mentality is a hallmark of a totalitarian state. i see thirteen yr old girls that look and act like pros, and i've known families with mentally handicapped children that were not competent to give consent at any age.
add to this the knee-jerk reactions of over-protective and sexually repressed people, and it leads to absurd double standards of "justice" like the one i described above. LET THE JUDGE AND JURY DECIDE. NO ARBITRARY FIXED AGE.
