HEYBURN — A pilot is dead after a plane crashed into a potato processing plant Wednesday morning in central Idaho.

It happened around 8:35 a.m. at Gem State Processing in Heyburn. The single-engine Cessna 208B registered to Spirit Air in Salmon crashed into the building and appears to have flipped over on the roof.

“The pilot and sole occupant of the plane sadly did not survive,” Heyburn Police Chief Ryan Bertalotto said in a news release. “None of the Gem State Processing employees were injured.”

Heyburn Police, Minidoka and Cassia County Sheriff’s deputies, Minidoka County Fire Protection District, North Cassia Fire, Burley Fire and Rupert EMS responded to the scene.

The Federal Aviation Administration and National Transportation Safety Board are reviewing witness statements and evidence to determine the cause of the crash.

Police have not released the name of the pilot but family members tell EastIdahoNews.com she was from Salmon and MagicValley.com reports the plane was supposed to deliver mail to the Burley airport.

“The City of Heyburn sends its condolences to the family of the pilot, the aviation company, and to the Gem State Processing family during this difficult time,” Chief Bertalotto said.

Why humans can live to around 80 while giraffes die at 24: Scientists compare 16 species and find animals with a slower rate of genetic mutations have longer lifespans

Giraffes, which can reach up to 18ft tall and live to around 24, were found to have mutation rates of around 99/year (stock image)

Naked mole rats, which are significantly smaller than giraffes at just five inches and live to 25, were found to have very similar mutation rates of 93/year

Michelle Obama Shares Rare New Photo of Daughters Malia and Sasha

Alyssa Bailey - 1h ago

It isn’t often the Obamas post family photos on social media, but former First Lady Michelle Obama shared a new shot of her, Barack Obama, and their adult daughters Malia and Sasha Obama yesterday to promote their Netflix show Our Great National Parks.

“Over the years, @BarackObama and I have been lucky enough to show our girls some of the magic of our world’s natural wonders. This time, Barack wants you to join in on the fun with his new @HigherGroundMedia show, Our Great National Parks, which is streaming now on Netflix,” she wrote. “Whether you’re visiting a national park or taking a walk around your neighborhood, there’s so much out there to explore. We hope the show inspires you to take a trip outdoors. If you do, be sure to take part in the #WildForAll Challenge at WildForAll.org. Can’t wait to hear all about it! 🌍”

Malia, 23, is a Harvard graduate now working in the writers’s room of Donald Glover’s new Amazon series, he confirmed in late March to Vanity Fair. “She’s just like, an amazingly talented person,” he said. “She’s really focused, and she’s working really hard.”

“I feel like she’s just somebody who’s gonna have really good things coming soon,” he added. “Her writing style is great.”

Sasha, 20, is a student at the University of Michigan.

Barack spoke about Malia and Sasha’s personalities to InStyle in November 2020.

“Sasha is, as Malia describes it, completely confident about her own take on the world and is not cowed or intimidated—and never has been—by anybody’s titles, anybody’s credentials,” he said. “If she thinks something’s wrong or right, she will say so. When she was 4, 5, 6 years old, once she made a decision, she would dig in and couldn’t be steered off it. I write about it in the book, how we were trying to get her to taste caviar when we were visiting Russia. She was like, ‘Mnn-nnh. No. Sorry. That looks slimy. It’s nasty. I’m not going to do it—even if I’ve got to give up dessert.’ And that part of her character has always been there.”

“And Malia, she is just buoyant,” Barack continued. “She’s somebody who enjoys people, enjoys life, and enjoys conversation. She’s never bored, which is a bad*** quality that can take you places.”
