In the 70's, Virginia Slim and Calgon helped us accept the two income family and today most people don't think they can do without both parents working.

We have 3 kids - almost grown now and wife has never worked outside home because we made choices.

I just replaced our 12 year old refrigerator, a 10 year old dryer and a 12 year old dishwasher with almost-new appliances that were removed in a remodel. Each between 6 months and 18 months old because they wanted "new" or "smart" stuff.

Dishwasher (still available at store for $500) - $35

Refrigerator (still available at store for $1200) - $170

Dryer (still available at store for $600) - $75

wife now has 3 nearly "new" appliances that will last for another 10 years - for less than $300.

The kids were more important than the "latest" models.
