>An inner voice or inner monologue as you describe isn't necessarily a good thing

Bingo. Language is a creation of the human world, and not natural to our cognition, so when we spend the mental resources to translate our thoughts into language we are limiting our capacity to process information both by the available words (defined by people who are not you) and by the cadence of your inner voice. When you access your internal realm through more natural methods you can experience cognitive processes which may not be possible if you're limited by language.

Those who can do both well are the ones with an advantage. They're different ways to think that can achieve different ends. Language is essentially necessary for communicating complex ideas to others, and building a cohesive shared reality, yet if you go whole hog with language and ignore the much more complex natural world you end up with some form of communist hellscape where people are treated as nothing more than their titles and positions within the system. I wouldn't strictly place one above the other, but rather say that an acknowledgement of both worlds is necessary to achieve the highest levels of performance.
