Stars flare but the sun is unusually stable – small flares. Don't know historical record beyond maunder minimum. Flaring talk is brought up a lot, there may be more to this.
There are other stars whose activity is violent. The sun is a small mid age star. So yeah astronomically pretty stable, maybe unusual.
