Kristina Wong21 Apr 2022

The Pentagon on Thursday afternoon announced the authorization of $800 million more in security assistance for Ukraine as its fight with Russia concentrates in east, bringing the total U.S. assistance to Ukraine under the Biden administration to more than $4 billion.

The package includes more than 121 Phoenix Ghost Tactical Unmanned Aerial Systems — new drones rapidly developed by the Air Force specifically for Ukrainian forces that is similar to the AeroVironment Switchblade drones that have been already provided. The Phoenix Ghost systems are produced by AEVEX Aerospace.

“It will require some minimal training, for knowledgeable UAS operators to be able to use it and we’re going to be working through those training requirements directly with the Ukrainian armed forces,” a senior defense official said during a background briefing.

The package also include 72 155mm Howitzers and 144,000 artillery rounds and 72 tactical vehicles to tow the Howitzers, as well as field equipment and spare parts.

“This commitment, together with the 18 155mm Howitzers announced on April 13, provides enough artillery systems to equip five battalions,” said Pentagon Press Secretary John Kirby.

“The United States will continue to utilize all available tools to support Ukraine’s Armed Forces in the face of Russian aggression,” he added.

Chris Wallace: Jen Psaki Restored ‘Much-Needed Civility to the White House Briefing Room’

Pam Key20 Apr 2022

CNN+ anchor Chris Wallace praised outgoing White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki Wednesday on his show “Look Who Is Talking to Chris Wallace” for bringing “civility” back to the White House briefing room.

Wallace said, “You have been, I think it’s fair to say, been widely praised for your stint here at the White House. In fact, I have praised you for your stint here at the White House. How do you think you’ve done?”

Psaki said, “What was most important is that we reset the tone, that we reestablish the briefing room, the press office, and what we were doing as a source of information, accurate to the American people.”

She added, “We wanted to provide them as much information, peel the curtain back as to what was happening and do it in a way that would hopefully calm the nerves of the prior four years.”

Wallace said. “We are going to miss you behind the podium, and if you end up at a cable channel other than this one, I promise I will watch you.”

Psaki said, “Thank you, Chris.”

After ending the interview, Wallace said, “The job of White House press secretary is tricky. You represent that president, but you’re paid by the American people. Handling those sometimes dueling obligations is a delicate balance. But Jen has done as good a job at it as any press secretary I can remember while restoring some much-needed civility to the White House briefing room. She will be missed.”

Even when he’s losing viewers, the asshole just wont quit

A new portrait of Queen Elizabeth II was released in honor of her 96th birthday Thursday, and it’s one of her most incredible yet.

The photograph from the Royal Windsor Horse Show was taken on the Windsor Castle grounds, according to People magazine. In the photo, the Queen stands between two white fell ponies, Bybeck Katie and Bybeck Nightingale, while wearing a deep green coat and holding their reigns, the outlet reported.

The Queen has always been a fan of horses, People noted. She received her first horse at the age of four, a Shetland pony, the report continued. She has also been known to enthusiastically cheer at horse-racing events, the outlet reported.

She allegedly has not ridden her horses since 2021, with reports suggesting that she felt some discomfort the last time she got into the saddle.

This is the Queen’s second birthday since the death of her husband, Prince Philip, in April 2021. He died at 99-years-old after 73 years of marriage to the British monarch.

To mark her 96th birthday, Queen Elizabeth left her primary residence of Windsor Castle to stay at her Sandringham estate, People continued. While there, She will reside at Wood Farm, a smaller five-bedroom home where the Prince spent a lot of time while retired, according to the outlet.
