UK leader calls Putin a ‘crocodile’
Boris Johnson says Ukrainians can’t sit down and negotiate with the Russian leader
(They always use the most insane looking pictures of BoJo…kek)
Russian President Vladimir Putin is like a crocodile chewing on Ukraine’s leg, British Prime Minister Boris Johnson told reporters on Thursday, while traveling to India. He said that he didn’t see how Kiev could possibly negotiate with Russia, and added that the West would keep sending artillery and other weapons to Ukraine.
“It’s very hard to see how the Ukrainians can negotiate with Putin, given his manifest lack of good faith and his strategy, which is evident, to try to engulf and capture as much of Ukraine as he can and then perhaps to have some sort of negotiation from a position of strength – or even launch another assault on Kiev,” Johnson said.
“I really don’t see how the Ukrainians can easily sit down and come to some kind of accommodation. How can you negotiate with a crocodile when it’s got your leg in its jaws? That is the difficulty that the Ukrainians face.”
While he doesn’t see how Putin can be a “valid interlocutor,” Johnson said this was something for the Ukrainians to decide. Meanwhile, the UK and its NATO allies will continue to provide Kiev with money and weapons.
The consensus of G7 leaders on Ukraine is to “keep supplying them with the things they need to help them defend themselves, particularly with artillery,” Johnson said.
“This is turning into a conflict of heavy artillery exchanges and the UK is doing a lot to supply Soviet-era shells, in addition to the 150 armored vehicles we have announced,” the British PM added, presumably referring to the Stormer tracked vehicles armed with anti-aircraft missiles.
The US has offered Kiev a total of 90 towed howitzers, the first of which reportedly entered the country on Thursday.
According to Johnson, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has a “pretty maximalist position” on the Donbass, saying he “would actually like Russian forces to be expelled from their existing positions” in Donetsk and Lugansk. He is “not so maximalist” on Crimea, the peninsula that voted to rejoin Russia after the 2014 US-backed coup in Kiev.
Johnson spoke with reporters en route to India, where he aims to pressure Narendra Modi’s government into reducing military and economic ties with Moscow.

Mark Zuckerberg barred from Russia
The Facebook mogul is among 29 US politicians, executives and media figures blacklisted by Moscow
(Are they specifically naming the DS?)
Responding to US sanctions against Russian government officials and their family members, Moscow has sanctioned 29 US citizens, including Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg and Vice President Kamala Harris. They are banned from entering Russia indefinitely.
The “executives, businessmen, experts and journalistswho shape the Russophobic agenda, as well as the spouses of a number of high-ranking officials” are being banned in response to anti-Russian sanctions affecting families of officials, scientists, cultural and business figures, the Russian Foreign Ministry said on Thursday.
In addition to Zuckerberg, Moscow has blacklisted LinkedIn CEO Ryan Roslansky, as well as the presidents and CEOs of military industry giants Northrop Grumman, General Dynamics, L3 Harris Technologies, Leidos, Booz Allen Hamilton, and Aerojet Rocketdyne. Shipbuilder Huntington Ingalls Industries and drone-maker AeroVironment have also been sanctioned. The director of the Mitchell Institute of Aerospace Studies and the president of the Bank of America were also on the blacklist.
Moscow also sanctioned US politicians and their spouses, starting with Vice President Kamala Harris and her husband Doug Emhoff, White House Chief of Staff Ronald Klein, State Department spokesman Ned Price, Pentagon spokesman John Kirby, Deputy Defense Secretary Kathleen Hicks, vice-chair of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Admiral Christopher W. Grady, and the deputy health secretary, listed as “Richard/Rachel Levine.” (Richard/Rachel Levine…kek)
Russian sanctions also named Evan Ryan, spouse of Secretary of State Antony Blinken, and Margaret Goodlander, wife of National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan. Both hold posts in the Biden administration, Ryan as the White House cabinet secretary and Goodlander as an adviser to the Justice Department. Robert Kagan, husband of Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs Victoria Nuland, rounds off the sanctioned spouses list.
Bringing up the rear are media personalities the Foreign Ministry accused of “shaping the Russophobic agenda.” These include ABC host George Stephanopoulos, Washington Post columnist David Ignatius, CNN analyst Bianna Golodryga, as well as “Meduza” editor Kevin Rothrock, along with two experts from the Woodrow Wilson Center and the Atlantic Council’s Scowcroft Center think tanks.
Further sanctions announcements can be expected in the near futureas countermeasures against the hostile actions of US authorities, the Russian Foreign Ministry said.
Russia has already sanctioned Blinken, Sullivan, Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin, Joint Chiefs of Staff Chairman General Mark Milley, CIA Director William Burns, White House spokeswoman Jen Psaki, former secretary of state Hillary Clinton, as well as President Joe Biden himself and his son Hunter. They were put on Moscow’s blacklist in mid-March, in response to US sanctions.

Ukraine hoping for military victory in Mariupol
President says Kiev needs foreign help to rescue trapped holdouts in Black Sea port city
(Nothing gives fighters confidence then say you hope to have a victory)
It is still possible to rescue Ukrainian fighters trapped in Mariupol, but Kiev will need foreign help to do so, President Volodymyr Zelensky said on Thursday. Meanwhile, Russia declared the city to be completely cleared of troops loyal to Kiev, with only a few die-hards left at the Azovstal factory complex.
“There is a military way” to unblock Mariupol, Zelensky told local media during a press conference with the prime ministers of Spain and Denmark in Kiev.
“We need to prepare for it. We are preparing to be strong, but here we need the help of our partners. It’s difficult, by ourselves,” he added.
(WTF they probably have more weapond than all of the Viet Nam war but they want others to come in and fight with them, its hard to do it by ourselves)
Earlier on Thursday, Russian Defense Minister Sergey Shoigu told President Vladimir Putin that the Azov Sea port is fully in the hands of Russian and Donetsk People’s Republic troops, with the exception of a surrounded group holed up at the Azovstal steel plant. Shoigu estimated their number to be around 2,000.
Some 8,100 Ukrainian troops, militants and mercenaries were in Mariupol when it was surrounded last month, the defense minister said, and 1,478 of them have surrendered.
Shoigu said it would take 3-4 days to clear the factory. However, Putin told told the minister not to storm the facility, in order to save Russian lives. Instead, he instructed, it should be sealed so that nothing and no one can get in – or out.
Mariupol was the stronghold of “Azov,” a volunteer regiment created after the 2014 coup in Kiev that openly embraced Nazi symbolism. It was subsequently integrated into the National Guard of Ukraine and has units across the country.
Trapped “Azov” fighters have refused Russian offers to surrender, insisting they be allowed to keep their weapons and asking to be airlifted to another country instead. Thegovernment in Kiev has reportedly forbidden them from surrendering, insisting they need to fight to the last man.

Germany, Spain, and Portugal endorse candidate in French election
The move left Moscow wondering what is now considered election interferencekekkity
The leaders of Germany, Spain, and Portugal have named the incumbent French president Emmanuel Macron as their preferred candidate at the upcoming second round of the election, warning the voters against supporting National Rally’s leader, Marine Le Pen.
In a surprising move on Thursday, three days before the vote in France and amid Russia’s ongoing offensive in Ukraine, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez, and Portuguese Prime Minister Antonio Costa published a joint column in the Le Monde and El Pais newspapers.
After claiming in the beginning of the article that Russian President Vladimir Putin’s “aggression” targets not only Ukraine but also the values which France and its European partners defend, the authors of the article came to their main point.
According to Scholz, Sanchez, and Costa, “the populists and the extreme right” in their countries “have made Vladimir Putin an ideological and political model, echoing his nationalist demands.” This should not be forgotten, no matter how much such politicians “are trying to distance themselves from the Russian aggressor,” the leaders emphasized, possibly referring to Le Pen’s numerous denials of sympathies for the Kremlin.
Therefore, the authors argue, the second round of the French election is not “an election like the others,” especially considering “France has been a central country in the European project.”
“It is the choice between a Democratic candidate, who believes that France is stronger in a powerful and autonomous European Union (EU), and a far-right candidate, who openly sides with those who attack our freedom and our democracy…” they said.
Describing the alleged benefits of the “greater European solidarity,” Scholz, Sanchez, and Costa did not miss the chance to criticize supporters of Brexit, who, in their opinion, have only brought about various problems for the UK.
Unity is the only way to maintain prosperity, to “achieve globalization in a human way” and to “defend international peace and order,” the column reads.
“That is why we need France by our side,” Scholz, Sanchez, and Costa reveal.
They further specified that they needed France, which “welcomed the exiles fleeing the dictatorships of Franco and Salazar” and which “defends justice against anti-democratic leaders, such as Putin.”
“Which France will come out of the polls on April 24? Citizens of the French Republic have the choice,” the leaders of Germany, Spain, and Portugal said.
Scholz, Sanchez, and Costa’s article raised eyebrows in Russia, with Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova sarcastically calling the politicians’ initiative “weekdays of democracy.”
Writing on Telegram, Zakharova said that she had two questions:
“So, is it possible for the president of one country to support the presidential candidate of another country? Isn’t that considered election interference now?”she wrote, apparently referring to the fact that the West has been accusing Moscow of interfering in foreign elections for years now.
Zakharova’s second question relates to an issue that Western countries have long been obsessed with.
“What about the gender balance in the elections? Is it not a factor anymore? Or in developed democracies, when real power is at stake rather than declared rights, gender does not matter?” she wrote.
Meanwhile, the latest polls suggest Macron may not need such open support from his European colleagues. The Opinion Way survey, conducted on Thursday with 1334 participants, reveals that 56% of the electorate are ready to support the incumbent president, with 44% prepared to vote for Le Pen.
In the first election round, however, Macron’s lead was not that significant. On April 10, he got 27.85%, while Le Pen was just a few points behind with 23.15%.

Russia closes consulates of three NATO countries
Moscow responded to the Baltic states in a tit-for-tat measure as diplomatic ties deteriorate further
The Russian Foreign Ministry responded to the “unfriendly actions” of the three Baltic states on Thursday, by closing their consulates and declaring their staff ‘personae non grata’. Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania had previously announced their decision to close their Russian consulates.
The ministry summoned top representatives of the diplomatic missions of these countries to express a “strong protest” over such measures. During the meeting, Russia announced it would forbid the operations of all three countries’ Consulates General in Saint Petersburg, as well as of Latvia’s consulate and Estonia’s consulate in Pskov. The foreign ministry specified that the decision was made “on the basis of the principle of reciprocity,” as well as taking into account the military assistance that was being provided by these countries to Kiev, and “the covering up of the crimes of Ukrainian nationalists against the civilian population of the Donbass and Ukraine.”
The heads and other officials of the Estonian and Latvian consular missions have been declared ‘personae non grata’, while consular employees, administrative, and technical staff who are not citizens of the Russian Federation have been designated as “unacceptable”.
“All the above-mentioned persons have been requested to leave the territory of the Russian Federation within the same time frame that was set aside for the departure of employees of Russian consular missions from these countries,” the ministry said.
The announcement came as Lithuanian Minister of Defense Arvydas Anusauskas admitted that his country had provided Ukraine with “many” heavy mortars. Speaking to the Baltic News Service on Thursday, the minister said that a multi-million-euro package of military support for Kiev also included the Stinger missile system, various anti-tank and anti-aircraft weapons, ammunition, grenades, and machine guns.
The diplomatic spat between the Western countries and Russia has significantly intensified following the launch of Russia’s military attack on Ukraine on February 24. The last few weeks have seen hundreds of Russian diplomats expelled, with the Baltic countries adopting the toughest stance on Moscow. In early April, Lithuania became the first EU country to expel the ambassador. Along with Latvia, it also announced the downgrading of diplomatic relations with Russia.
The Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs made it clear that it reserved the right to retaliate to the “unfriendly” measures of the West.
